My bf just removed mine for me....he was unsure at first but once I showed him what it looked like online, plus he read some of the posts here, he felt confident. He put two fingers in and pulled the strings down, then used tweezers to get a good grip, and he tugged firmy and slowly. Came out with some pressure feeling and cramping but nothing that painful. So far so good.

I noticed my strings of the coil very low today almost outside of my vaginally so I made an appointment and half hour later slight cramp feeling and wetness. I was bleeding. First bleed since having it fitted in March 2015. I tugged slight on the string and it literally just pulled out so it must have been hanging on by a thread lol. Anyway I'll keep the appointment tomorrow but it's weird..no pain or period since March then it expels itself. Anyone had the same problems.
I am sterilised and my doctor only recommended the coil as my periods were heavy. I don't think I'll get it refitted but I did notice while on it I had no premenstrual tension in all these months but may be due to the fact I'm single through choice hehe. Xx

I know this was ages ago, but I thought I experienced this when I pulled mine out 10 minutes ago. Come to find out, it was just a fairly large clot.
I can't tell you how relieved I've been the minute I pulled that terrible thing out.
Finding and getting a good grip on the strings was quite a feat, but very possible and super easy.

OMG, I just removed mine right now at work in the bathroom!!!!! I have had it for only 1 week and noticed the headaches and weight gain within a few days, and know they charge and would probably try to talk me out of taking it out at drs or planned parenthood, so I went on some boards right now, read how people have taken it out at home, and wa laa I just took mine out! I didnt feel any pain so hopefully I did it gently and right and didnt do any harm but if pulling it is all they do at the drs office then its the same risk. I am 37 and had a miscarriage last week and required a d&C and i had asked for mirena because I was in a really bad state of mind tha tday, I was hurt and angry and wanted no kids ever again :( but yeah I knew after a few days of the weird bleeding and odor and headaches that this was probably not the best for me, so now its out~!

I gained over 35lbs on this IUD and bleed for over a month after initial implant...it's been 6mths and I have great insurance, but why pay for a doctors visit if I can do it myself? Don't get me wrong, the IUD works great, but I couldn't take it anymore. I've just removed it myself about 5 minutes ago and as everyone said in this forum, it was quick and painless. I was fortunate that I could reach the string myself. I did feel a slight tug and a little bit of flesh (very little) was on the top part of the T shape. No bleeding though, at least not yet *knocks on wood*. It was like removing a tampon. Thanks everyone for your honest inputs! It gave me the courage and motivation to do it myself. May not be the "one size fits all" advice, but it certainly helped me.

It's completely normal. I had the same thing happen with my first Mirena that i removed at home. Now I'm on my second Morena and no complications.

I tried with a glove put i think its more slippery than your fingers.. You do have to fish for it though. The string was small so i did have a hard time finding it. It was way back on the side of the cervix,. the Cervix feels like the tip of your nose so you know your there when you feel it..

I just removed mine. My strings were long so I washed my hands and it took 45 seconds to make sure I had both strings and painlessly slide it out. It would have cost me 260$ at the doctors since I don't have insurance.

I've only had mine in for a week but been in constant pain since. Now got a water infection too. Want mine removed but doctors said they would be very reluctant to remove it.
