I also removed mine just a few minutes ago, in my home after much much researching and wondering. I am 40 years old and had a copper IUD inserted after the birth of my 5th child 7!years ago. This whole time I evhad massine craps, erradict periods, back pain and cramps all the time, plus multiple yeast infections and BV. My strings were easy to locate on the toilet. I washed my hands with antiseptic soap and laid down, spread my legs and heated down. I was able to grasp both strings first with my index finger and then with my thumb and pulled very gently. It took a few minutes and because of all I had read I wanted to pull slowly in case it was stuck, I didn’t want to hurt myself. If I had encountered resistance I was going to stop and wait for an appointment somewhere, but I have no insurance and work 80 hours a week and would have to drive at least an hour to get to a clinic if I could even find one that would take me. You donhave to pull like a tampon but I did it firmly and slowly and it literally just slipped right out. Tiny tiny bit of spotting but that’s all. What I noticed is my back pain stopped immediately. It’s onmy been about 20 minutes since but I already feel better. I recommend a physician especially if you can’t find the strings, or think there may be other problems, but if you can find the strings easily and reach them and are patient, clean and willing to take the risk, then, there you go.

After reading all of these responses, I removed mind by myself as well. It was very easy it was painless and I already feel better. I am very active and a size 4 normally, and I have gained over 22 pounds even though I’ve been eating less and exercising more. Also my elbows in my knees have been hurting me and my hips. I have a feeling that it is all because of muirena.

Don't do it unless you are 100% certain what you are doing. You can seriously hurt yourself. Mine was removed by a doctor who put it in, so I had utmost faith in his ability.
I had some uncomfortable side effects, like gas and bloating so decided to remove Mirena. Scheduled an appointment, waited for a couple of weeks and procedure went smoothly. No pain or unpleasantness.
If you can wait a bit, it is much safer that a professional do this for you. If you try to experiment you can badly wound yourself.

I tried removing IUD by myself and I couldn't do it, so I went to the doctor but they recommended an ultrasound. I don't have insurance. What do you recommend? I've been having this problem for the past 8 months.
