Hi,

I just saw a news release regarding a Duke Univerity study on Splenda. They say it has adverse affects on good bacteria.

I am a heavy splenda user and have been battling increasesd yeast infections (almost monthly now).

Anyone else out there have this problem?

Hi I have this problem. You are right that you are what you eat. I am on the anti-candida diet. For me, it is systemic candida (yeast). Actually the yeast from a yeast infection comes from an overgrowth in your intestines. I take supplements and I only eat veggies, protein and plain yogurt. I only drink Evian water and herb tea. The yeast will keep coming back unless you solve the underlying systemic problem. This may take me 5-6 months of hard work. I don't use medication to heal the infection. i use acidopholus suppositories and boric acid. It seems to be working. I have lost about 15 pounds but I needed to so it's a good thing. A better sweetner that is all natural is called Stevia. It's an herb. The yeast will not flourish when you eat it. I add it to my plain yogurt. Good luck and feel better. Laura

Hi, I have the same problem and it seems to have started right after I started eating splenda and at the same time started the Low carb diet. I decided to do my own research and found a few websites that explain this in detail but they recommend some expensive products so I am doing exactly what they say and cutting down on the fatty foods and other artificial sweeteners. Here is some more info, if you like to read.

I know I never had this problem before I started this diet and yes I did lose weight but I would rather go to the gym and lose weight exercising than suffer with this every month.

I have been battling constant yeast infections as well. I thought it was due to my birth control (which I'm sure it was when I was on it!) and then an acne medicine I went on for a short time. But I've just realized it may be due to Splenda. I use 1-2 packets every day in coffee and or tea... I'm going to try to cut the splenda out and see waht happens. Otherwise my diet is healthy (I like to think so!) Thanks for the info.

I've been reading the posts on here, and I have had the same problem for about a year. I was on Ortho tricyclen lo and then switched to alesse, then yasmine and now finally Yaz, and with all of these BC's i got yeast infections i keep treating them with canasten or monistat or even difulcan, they would go away and then come back. Very FRUSTRATING! i thought it was sex for the longest time or even my lubricant, and even my boyfriend lol I talked to my Dr and he said it had nothing to do with my birth control, which I completely disagree with cuz i tried going off of it and the yeast infection would go away! So i went to a natural store (NUTRITION HOUSE) and they told me to take WOMEN'S MULTI PROBOTIC WITH CRANRICH, the brand name is NATURAL FACTORS, this helps to keep friendly bacteria. The other product i took was called CANDIDA STOP, the brand name is NEW ROOTS. After all this the yeast infections went away, so as long as i was on these products i was clear of the infections. I take the probotics the entire time im on the pill, but i only took 2 bottles of the candida stop and i was good to go after that!

I hope this helps anyone that is still frustrated and suffering from this, cuz i totally know the feeling!

I have been dealing with yeast infections once a month for a year now but lately it seemed like it was there ALL the time! I had done Monistat 3 once a month but always came back around that time of the month. 2 1/2 weeks ago I took my daughter to an herbalist and decided to ask about that. She have me probiotics eleven from natures sunshine but told me to take 5 in the morning 5 in afternoon on empty stomach. I thought this was crazy bc the label says 1-2 twice daily so I was worried. My hubby said just try it like she said. I decided on 4 and 4. It took about 4-5 days but it is now gone and I couldn't be happier:)

Just a note about yeast infections....the candida diet works.

For me, plain yogurt applied to the area clear up the symptoms in five or ten minutes.

I have also had this issue! I suffered with infections for about 5 years, monthly. Once I cut Splenda out, my problem went away. The results weren't immediate, but I haven't had much of a problem for a year. Recently I started drinking crystal light regularly. I didn't realize it had sucralose in it....that was until I recently got repeated infections. on a side not, i did the candida cleanse... Wasn't worth it. I got an infection on day 30. Also, be sure to avoid saliva as lube. That also seems to contribute to the problem.

Splenda and it's imitators are not pure. They are mixed with high concentrations of dextrose and maltodextrin, both which are sugars.(Read the label). I use pure sucralose. It is amazing how little I use compared with the commercial products of Splenda. Splenda is mostly filler. This will cause your sugar problems. As a fellow :"yeaster" and low carber, I sympathize with your concern.

YES!!! I recently went sugar free but have been relying on Spenda and keep getting them. Once I get one it's hard to get rid of. Driving me crazy!!

Sugar products and anything with yeast (sorry...breads, refined carbs, sooo many processed foods) are contributing to your problem.

I had a huge problem with this in the past but cut out all of these items and now the symptoms have gone away.

If you need to treat it, try doing it naturally by picking up Uva Ursi tea, which also works in place of antibiotics in Bladder infections...just make sure to clearly follow the directions. A MUCH safer and cheaper alternative to most options out there...except for prevention of course. Probitiotics will also help to get the situation in hand.

I should also mention that Stevia and Xylitol are the only safe sweeteners to use if you suffer from yeast issues.

I never had recurring yeast infections, but what did happen to me, I now attribute to an introduction to Splenda, after years of acne-treating birth control, and a college appetite for drinking. I was out celebrating my graduation of my masters degree and a new job with a significant raise. I had only recently begun using Splenda for all of my sweets. I had been on the birth control for years, but I didn't drink heavily all the time. This particular night, though, everyone was buying me drinks. I awoke the next day feeling pretty hung over, and my stomach had swelled to two sizes above my normal waist size. I looked pregnant, like 4 months pregnant! It was insane.

After years of having the condition, I found a doctor that put me on the AntiCandida Diet. It took 3 months, but I lost 20 pounds. I tested positive to a baker's yeast and brewer's yeast allergy. Basically, I had a candida colony and my body was inflamed trying to balance itself.

I just found the study by Duke University saying that Splenda can cut up to 50% of your gut microflora. If this is true, why isn't it mainstream news. Isn't it interesting that the probiotics industry is growing and the rising diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome has led to many medical solutions when no one seems to be aware of the cause.

It would be really bizarre if the makers of Splenda somehow owned one of the probiotic brands.... (just thinking.)

I now see sucralose in many things (including the new SodaStream products) but I don't know if I can trust it to be safe to not put me back in the same situation.

I found when I eliminated Splenda from my diet my chronic, monthly yeast infections stopped. As soon as I accidently ingested Splenda, (Starbucks gave me a sugar free drink by accident, and I didn't realize it until I drank almost the whole thing) sure enough I got a yeast infection when I hadn't had one in almost four years after I quit using Splenda.
