I've almost given up on urologists for some remedy to RE (Retrograde Ejaculation).  Does anyone know a urologist that has an idea how RE can be corrected?

Hi Masmats,

It depends upon the cause of your RE.

If there is nerve damage it may not be possible to remedy it.  If it is caused by a medication (most are) then changing your prescription may help.

Can you provide more information about what they've found to date?

most urologist think the RE doesn't need to be treated unless it's a matter of fertility. And the most common cause is the damage done by the laser surgery the urologist tell us is the next step in threating BPH or the frequent need to urinate. When in fact it is a problem that they caused, that they don't want to have to deal with. Believe me, it is not the same, and after four yrs, I would rather had the problem with frequent urination than to end up with RE. My first visit to the urologist they kept insisting that I had to be in pain, very bad pain. The fact was there was no pain at all. They drained a very large amount of urine from my bladder, 1700 cc if I remember correctly. which is a plastic square urinal, filled to the top twice. I had to endure a biopsy, which was not only painful, but resulted in ejaculating blood when I masturbated. Then, the Dr. told me it would happen 8 to 12 times before it cleared up. Imagine all this happening to you. My prostate was and still isn't enlarged. But they have the facility, and get the 150 dollar co-pay(now 200) , for doing the procedures that they tell you a is necessary, to diagnose your problem. Then the surgery was also performed in the other side of the building, another co pay.. When your social security disability barely covers your bills, this is a large amount of money. Was given Flomax, which didn't help, in fact the only thing it did was reduce the amount that I ejaculated to almost nothing. So the search continues for a solution to this problem.. They have been finding success in injecting collagen around the neck of the bladder which restricts the flow, which corrects the RE. But this is only done in men who are having problems with fertility. I'm looking for a new urologist, because the last one told me not to come back. And nerve damage due to age( I was 52 at the time of surgery) was the most likely cause. This was a different urologist than performed the surgery.

Good News Men!! After my last Bad Urologist experience, I have gotten a referral and an appointment the first week of April at Shands Medical Center, at the University of Florida, Gainesville!! They have what seems to be a group of Dr.'s that are dealing with this. And surprisingly even though in a different county, my provider has approved it. I am optimistic for the first time in 4 yrs. I tried the higher dosage of sudaphed. Which is pseudoephedrine, which the State now regulates due to purchases by individuals that used it to make crystal meth.
The cautionary note if you try this is to be aware of what may happen. Some are saying to take a dose a few hours before sex. I went with the taking large dosages several times a day. Although I'm sure my other medications didn't cause the problem, they did not help it either. If you have this in your system, and get stressed(for example), and get an adrenaline rush, you end up with the same effect that the drug dealers are using it for. An effect I compare to "speeding", something that was popular in the 70's. Some just like the feeling of energy , while others would mix it with downers(such as Quaaludes) . So they could take more of each, obtaining a high, but giving enough balance to function. I saw some of these people several years later, and it took it's toll, much like crack does, poor health, looking aged beyond your yrs. Was not pleasant to see. So while Drs. may suggest this, and it works with some, be aware of what may happen. It wears off, but you feel like you can't keep a single thought long enough to process it before ten more pop up. I take bupropion( Wellbutrin), and albuterol, and Advair as treatment for COPD, For over ten years now, which result in tinnitus(ringing in the ears) that can intensify at times to painful levels , along with tremors. And worsening of vision. As soon as I find any more information after my appointment, I will let everyone know what I find out, and what they are doing to try to correct this problem. Keeps your spirits up, we'll see what happens!

Jerbrent, can you please tell me more about what you know about injecting collagen around the neck of the bladder. Where did you read about this? Where are they doing this procedure? Thanks.
