I've yet to discover what the "best" amount of running is for me while I'm sick. I've got a sore throat today, which indicates probably a 90% chance that I will be sick tomorrow. Should I run today and get in a few easy miles? Or should I just rest until it's all over with and hopefully that will minimize the duration? I have run while sick before and it sucked, but I don't know how long I would have been sick without running, so I don't really have any comparison.
I train through any sickness that doesn't involve a fever.
If I don't feel right, I don't go out. Pushing through an oncoming illness could prolong it. If the body is telling me to rest, I will rest
If it's just a head cold I'll do easy low stress miles. If general achiness, stomach issues or fever come into play then I bag all running until it passes.
I'm sick right now, too. For me, I can't do speedwork. I suppose I could, but it always ends up being c**p. So I just run easy miles. And I'm prepared to only run 2 or 3 if I get into a planned 5 or 6 miler and feel weak and tired.
Similar to X, I'll log easier, shorter workouts when ailing. About the only time I'll bag a run to illness is if I can't even get outta bed. But in all the years of talking running with other runners, it really is a personal thing. I find I can run 'thru' just about anything. In fact I always feel better after running with a cold for instance. The workout 'decongests' if you want to call it that. Same with a mild fever, I get out and sweat a couple miles like crazy, take a lot of fluids and a nap and I'll feel soo much better. Other things like backaches or toothaches, I find running is the answer.
well, I used to run while I was sick, but not anymore. I got really sick with ear and sinus infections that settled in my chest and although I have more strength now I'm not running until it's completely gone. I just don't see the point in feeling like c**p during and after the run. That's not really what it's all about when you take off for a run. Well, take care, you and rest.
Me too. This doesn't work for some though. Kinda an individual thing I guess.

It totally depends on the person and situation. Some people get better right away, and don't really need to rest, while others will be sick for weeks. As long as it's not raining and you feel OK, I would go for it.
I wouldn't do any training if I were sick. It's better to pause for a few days and than continue with training when you are completely healthy if you ask me.
I think after the rest, you should feel more energized (not sick) and run even better than before you were sick. So yeah, I guess it's a good idea to just rest for a few days and just relax knowing you don't have to run!

Definitely rest and a lot of fluid intake. Go in the vitamin C and leave being active after the viruses are gone.
It is true that physical activity boosts your immune system but you work on boosting the immune system before you are attacked by viruses.

I would go for relax - take a sauna or massage or something like that.
I have similar experience - went running with sore throat and then ended up ill in bed for a few days. Pehars I wouldn't be sick if i didn't go running that day, perhaps if i took the time for myself i would relax, my body would relax, took some vitamins and similar, i wouldn't end up in bed for a week or so...
Once again - do not workout / run sick ... that is your body telling you, you need to relax and not bring the body to its limits...

It'll be ideal if you restrain from running while being sick, since you waste your energy on physical activity rather than improving your health. I'm sure you don't want to have complications.. a couple of days without running won't matter too much, right?
