This is a message to all ladies out there with either weight, thyroid problems or both.
Take it from someone who has experienced it all. YES kelp helps to lose weight. YES !!! its dangerous if a healthcare practitioner is NOT consulted on usage according to your personal needs. Each PERSON is different and each BRAND is different.
I made the mistake of assuming it's a harmless vegetable extract. So when I bought my new supply and my brand was not available I bought a different brand.... BIG MISTAKE!!!! Different brands different iodine quantities. Within 3 days I was as sick as I could ever remember. Eyes burning like I had a fever, elevated blood pressure which gave me pounding headaches, aching chest, resting heart rate of 120, no appetite, aches and pains popping up for a few seconds in random areas, nausea and, last but not least, you feel like a bus side swiped you.
That is called iodine overdose. Now all this happened not because I wanted to lose weight but because under medical advice I was taking it for my thyroid function. I am not blaming the medical practitioner, I blame myself for not checking that my replacement batch matched what I was taking.
Please be careful because it's not just an innocent sea vegetable. Like everything out there, an excess can be very dangerous.
If a professional sees this post, please could you advise on how to flush a kelp/iodine overdose from a system quickly. Nothing on the www gives any advice on that.
I hope my experience saves someone the extreme discomfort and danger of overdosing.
