At least for Sebaceous cysts, don't pop them! This is from wikipedia...
"Under no circumstances must one try to pop the cyst, as it can lead to infection of the surrounding tissue. The neck is a particularly dangerous region, due to the glands and blood vessels."

Last month I had a ingrown hair growing under my penis. It started from the base (where my pubes are) and went 1 1/2 inches up my penis (and curled). I did my own surgery and got this bastard hair, however I had a lump the size on a pea on the left lower/middle part of my penis. This cyst was so deep, I couldn't pop it myself. I just had surgery on it at the hospital (took 30 minutes) and it was completely removed. I am a little worried about the scarring though. Anyways, if it is REALLY deep under the skin, go to the doctor. He will refer you to a Urologist and he will refer you to an outpatient surgery. This processs can take 2 weeks or more, so be patient.

I agree in not popping it on your own. This is a sensitive region that is prone to infection. The best thing to do, especially if warm compresses don't draw it out, is to go to the doctor. If the bump is significantly below the skin, you will need to have it removed as it will certainly not just pop out on its own. Home remedies for more surfaced cysts or ingrown hairs are to apply the warm compress and keep the area clean. Use some anti-bacterial soap in the shower to prevent this from occurring and keeping the region clean. Especially if you sweat a lot or exercise a great deal. Cleanliness is definately a factor. Showering after intercourse is also recommended.

it,s not a sebaceous cyts it,s a Ulcers: ulcers appear as craters on the skin and represent a full-thickness loss of skin (epidermis). There is frequently a crust, clear liquid (serum) or pus in the crater.

Just had a nice almond sized b****r sliced out of me. 2nd time here, and pretty much the same spot as the last one I had-underneath mid-shaft left of center. At least the drugs the doc prescribed are better this round. See your urologists!!! I did the pop and play with it thing for far too long.-Didn't want the knife again soon after the first time in. In the end, it made things worse-more scar tissue inside dividing the cyst and making it seem like there were three. See the doc. If the doc says it's a cyst, it can be removed easily-outpatient w/a local (my pref.). 1st time through they put me under making it an early morn-all day affair, and I needed to find a ride home. 2nd time-In at 10:15AM, out by 12:30PM and I could drive myself home. Still healing, but looking forward to being back to normal. Hope I don't get any more. Sebaceous cysts are hereditary, I believe. I've had several. Either way, getting drunk and digging into your penis is dumb. You only have one, and you can do some serious damage to it. I'm still kicking myself for having waited to get this fixed for so long this round. Saw the doc two weeks ago, had surgery scheduled the following week. I'd recommend taking a week off work to medicate & try not to aggravate things, but no problems thus far. No restrictions, well except sex, but I gave that up when I grew an extra nut on my stick, so a few more weeks won't hurt.

I currently have a sebaceous cyst on the lower shaft of my penis. It started small (small, white, pimple-looking) and grew slowly. In the beginning I pooped it like a pimple until I realized it was actually a cyst (never pop a cyst!!!!). I had a very large one on my leg about one year prior and it was a nightmare when it ruptured! I stopped touching it (penile cyst) once I determined it wasn't a pimple, and showed it to my doctor a month or two later. Of course, she said it was harmless and didn't needed to be removed unless I wanted to pay for a cosmetic removal. She said that unless it's dime-sized or interfering with function, they wouldn't remove it. They wanted $500+ bucks for a removal (which I regret not paying for last week- read on). I called my doctor again a couple of weeks ago and told her that when I am hard, it hurts a little and is in the midst of the action (if you know what i mean). Because it's on the lower-mid shaft of my penis, it's prone to a beating when having sex or masturbating! That;s the issue with these shaft penile cysts. She stuck to her guns and didn't take me seriously. I told her that i was afraid it would get ruptured and infected. I WARNED HER, BUT SHE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE CONCERNED.
On Tuesday (today if Friday) my wife and I had sex in the morning, and it was a little heavy so I know my cyst got a little beating. By Wednesday morning my small cyst (3-4 MM) turned into a large (red, purple, piercingly painful 8-10 MM) painful one. By Friday (today), the surrounding area of the cyst became red and sore, and it's pretty *&%$@ up. I called that b**** doctor and told her she's an id**t, and that "I am not even a Dr and I know what was going to happen". She said "I doesn't know the future". She proved to practice ignorance and not Prevention, like Kaiser claims.
After a total run around with Kaiser (including a visit Urgent Care and another visit to Dermo, which did nothing but cost money and waste time), I finally ended up at the Urologist. He said that it couldn't be touched until the infection was gone, so he prescribed Antibiotics for me (3-weeks). After the infection goes away and the swelling disappears, we'll talk about removing it. I told him that there won't be a discussion about removing it, because if I don't it'll continue to get infected. He too seemed to think it was OK to NOT remove it (???). I don't know what the hell is wrong with these people! I'm getting it removed once this horrible infection dies down!
Living life babysitting an infected cyst is no way to live! A sex life is important and we have to fight for our human right for a healthy one!

I just had a small white Cyst removed from the shaft of my penis. The procedure was quick and painless and the Doctor really made it seem like it was no big deal. I went to look at the spot when I got home and its very swollen and has turned black all around area where the cyst was removed. Should I be worried about this??? I'm hoping by morning the swelling has goes down and the black area is from the blood getting under the skin but I'm very concerned.... Has this happened to anyone? I also put some Neosporin on it, was that a bad idea?

I have a number of small cysts that appear on both the shaft and scrotum, there not that painfull but can be very unsightly. Ive popped a few but they just keep appaearing. Any advice?

They are known as Fordyce spots and you really should not pop them! They can be treated with oils though. There's a thread here on how to treat them. Does that help answer your question?

I had the same thing - a small white bump on the shaft of my penis. I was freaked out that it may be a STD and after a few months of worrying about it I finally went to a urologist today - he took a look at it and said that it was just a cyst and was common in men. He said that only reason to remove it is for cosmetic purposes - I am going back in a week and they are going to remove it, I don't want people thinking I have an STD when I don't.
I was thinking of doing it myself - but I am afraid of messing up and then really needing a doctor - and having an even more embarrassing story! I would say just go to the doctor - it wasn't bad at all after I spoke with him - they deal with much grosser stuff all day - this must be a cake-walk for them!
I wish I knew about cysts months ago - it would have saved me a lot of worrying about nothing!

im 16 and have a cyst on the shaft of my penis. It's been swollen and there for about a week and i popped it the first few days and whitish clear liquid came out. I then got a small needle (as sterile as i could) and popped the hard surface. When i squeezed it a little bit of blood came out along with some pus and the clear liquid. that was three days ago. Its now slightly swollen about 5mm across and kinda sore to touch. It's red but is white on top. I know people say that going to the doctor is the best approach but i can't see myself talking to my parents about this. I can feel all around it and its all hard skin now. What should i do?

I think I have the worst cyst here, it is the size of a marble on the foreskin of my penis. I have it since I was a kid and never thought of it as anything. It didn't hurt or anything but it is ugly as hell, scare girls away haha. I am now 24, I finally man up and went to see a doctor, he sent me to a surgent who deal with this type of stuff. First appointment he looked at my penis, told me not to worry about it he'll have it remove in no time. A week waiting finally got an approval from my insurance company. On and went with the surgery, he injected 5 shots of numbing into my penis and it hurts like hell!! IT WAS SOO PAINFULL I SCREAMED !THE WORST 2MIN PAIN ever felt in my life!!
After the shot it was numb, didn't notice he was already cutting it. The surgery was about 35 mins. This was last week. The next day my penis head turn dark black, I was scared so I called the doc, he said it is fine and should go away in couple of days. I went back again a week later to have the bandage remove, and now my foreskin is swollen. It’s been 3 days since he remove the bandage, the swollen doesn’t seem to stop, it gets bigger every day.
For those of you who had it remove surgically, how long did it take for you to fully healed? How long was the swelling? PM me or email me I really want to know. thanks
