I just wanted to comment on this post because I have had much experience with all of this and have had much different results. I'm just like many of you who have absolutely unbearable pain during/around their period. I'm pretty sure I have endometreosis. My mom had it and had the surgery and went through the whole thing, so I know exactly what it is. I've dealt with this for years and recently it just seems to keep getting worse and worse. I've been on birth control for the past 5 years, since I was 16. There's absolutely no way I could tolerate the pain if I wasn't on birth control. I've been on a couple different kinds of birth control, which is why I wanted to comment on this opinion of the depo shot. I was on the depo shot for about a year. Like I said, I've been on many different birth controls, and this was the only one that 100% took away the pain of being on my period. Simply because you don't get a period while you're on the shot. Now as for the comment that "you WILL gain weight" when you're on the shot, I completely disagree with that. If you're living an unhealthy lifestyle, this might contribute to weight gain, but I actually LOST weight while I was on the shot. I was super skinny, and I had no crazy side effects other than one. The only down fall I found from being on the shot was that I lost any and all sex drive that I had. Which I mean, if you're trying to go on the shot for "birth control" purposes, it's actually doing its job.
But the shot is not something you should be on for an extended period of time. It can cause bone loss/damage, and possibly cause infertility. Which is the main reason why I got off the shot after awhile. But if these effects didn't happen I can 100% say for sure I would be on this thing for life ha, it was the ONLY thing that got rid of my pain. I'm currently on the Nuvaring now. It helps a little bit, but like I said, it just keeps getting worse & worse. My periods are absolutely debilitating. I've tried the stupid "pain pill" that you're supposed to take before your period starts, it did nothing for me.
As far as "home remedies" go for me, the only thing that works is taking some Aleve. And that only helps the cramps. The unbearable knife jabbing pain in my back, hips, and legs, there's nothing that will help it. I'm about to call my gyno in the morning to make an appt to see if there's something else I can do. I'm ready to do the surgery if thats my last option. I'm sure you all understand how unbearable this pain is. I just wanted to comment and let everyone know that based on my own experiences, I thoroughly believe in birth control. I WOULD NOT be able to function without it.
I wish you all the best, I know how horrible this is. I wish I could send all of you a bottle of Aleve haha. If anyone ever comes up with a magic cure please also send it this way :) Sending everyone lots of love & hope!
i called my pain deadpain
I am suffering from the same since many years, I am 31 now, I used to take pain killers which was sheer bliss, but now I stoppped it, as I got to know that painkillers are not good. I went to a doc today, she asked me the following -
1. are my periods regular ? Yes
2. does it pain before the bleeding ? No
3. Did I always have it ? Yes
She said that this seems normal and suggested another painkiller, then she did ask me to do a ultrasound but everthing was normal.
She said that the pain might happen due to narrow passage, but is cured after childbirth..
So the next time onwards, I am going to take the painkiller she suggested and have a normal day
PS: Sex in the recent days might help reduce the pain.. ;)
Mild cramps 2-3 days prior.
On the first day, unbelievable abdominal pain, to the point where i throw up every time. I cry and scream out in pain, i'm curled up in bed just praying to the god i don't believe in to make it end....i have panic attacks, but that's probably because the pain is so unbearable i loose all sense of control. Every time i feel like someone's got to take me to the ER, but my self medication always puts me to sleep before i go that extreme. Also, when not consumed with the pain, I'm incredibly emotional, crying, irrational irritation, and feeling very attached and needy towards my husband (all at once).
But it only lasts one day, 6-12 hours. The rest of my period i have almost no pain at all.
My flow is heavy for a few days, light and then gone within 5 days.
And the pills i take and have taken aren't good on my liver at all -- i'm really looking for an alternative medicine (protein, vitamin B and accupuncture are all treatments i've read on this site today and will be trying in the near future).
When the pain starts coming (first day), by the time i've noticed it's too late to take a preemptive strike (as my periods are irregular, living with two other women). I take three ibiprophine and 2mg of xanax. No, it's not prescribed to me, don't need a lecture on that, but even with the ibiprophines the pain is so severe that i just have to put myself to sleep until it passes, which is the only reason i take it. Today after this dose i woke up two hours later, the pain building up until i was shaking, vomiting, screaming in pain and terrified. I took two more ibiprophine, and a hydrocodone 10, and 30 min later i feel great.
But i can't keep taking other peoples prescribed drugs, obviously. The bottle says not to exceed 6 ibiprophine in 24 hours, and I took five in four hours. I need a legal and preferably homeopathic treatment. Although if my doctor would perscribe me hydrocodone, i'd be fine with that. But i know most doctors i asked would think i was just trying to get high and wouldn't give it to me. Although i only need one a month, so i'm going to ask my doctor anyway.
Final note: I will NEVER get back on birth control. Other than being awful for your body, this never happened until after i got off of my birth control (Mononessa). It should only be a last resort.
