I thought I was the only one with this condition. Had gall bladder removed 3/26, felt ok for a few days...now, everytime I eat no matter what, the pain is there and terrible. If any of you find out what it is please email me.
Your symptoms rightly tell that gall bladder was the culprit but persistance of pain even after removal of gall bladder is due to persistance of nerve and brain pathways which were responsible for the pain. This the dilema of medicine that in number of diseases the symptoms persist after removal of the organ. The affected organ is only one part of pain producing apparatus. I think you should consult some chronic pain clinin to get proper remedy
I wished the docs would read this site. I also have the same thing. It started about a week ago. I suddenly noticed a strange sensitivity and pressure just under the bottom front of my right rib. This gradually became a nagging, throbbing pain and when it didn't hurt it burned like a rash, radiating to my abdomen and back. Sometimes when I was in bed the pain would go away and I thought I was cured. The next morning proved otherwise. My Doc gave me an office exam and didn't think it was my gall bladder. He did determine I had a viceral hernia, but knew I had this for years. He suggested that I wait and see if the pain would go away. I agreed to take his advice, but after last night, I just have to get something done. The pain is just too debilitating to ignore. By the way, I am type 2 diabetic and take victozia and glucophage. I understand that those have warnings about pancreas side effects. I've taken those for about 3 years.
Add me to the list. I've been experiencing the exact same symptoms on and off for the past two years. I'm a 40 year old male. I was diagnosed with a Hiatus Hernia several years ago. Had another endoscopy done this past year which showed slight inflammation in the stomach but nothing they deemed problematic.
All blood tests regarding liver function came back normal. I had an ultrasound and CT scan completed on my abdomen. They found minor inflammation of the liver, but doctor did not recommend a biopsy given that all liver function tests came back normal.
I'm not a heavy drinker but do have the occasional binge session when going out with friends/colleagues. I'm really at a loss for what this could be.
Does anyone else experience difficulty swallowing or the sensation that something in stuck in their throat when the onset of this pain occurs?
Are you saying that you found relief with a parasite cleanse? From that upper quadrant pain? I lived in Asia for a few years where I could have picked something up. Thanks.
Same endless symptoms. However, my doctors think it is related to my severe osteoporosis. They think my rib cage is settling and resting on the organs in the upper right quadrant. I've had all the tests and can't take pain medication due to hiatal hernia. Has anyone else had this diagnosis? Thanks.
I had my gall bladder removed around 20 years ago. The pain did not go away. However I have gotten periods of relief from time to time but now it is back with a vengeance and is close to unbearable. Because I had an ultrasound about 2 years ago the doctor said it is probably due to IBS or Fibro. I do not believe this b/c my IBS symptoms have been considerably different. I also think they try to put too many things that don't have obvious answers into the Fibro bucket. The past month has been excruciating. The pain is sharp and sometimes burning. It doubles me over and it bothers me that it radiates straight through to the back like a knife went clear through. I have other chronic pain problems too from different sources. I am so frustrated and don't know how to procede. I don't think I have asked the right questions or given a clear enough description but my concern is that my doctor has either given up on me or thinks I am a hypochondriac. I know that a gastro Ent can only see so much with an endoscopy which I also had about 2 years back. I don't know if there is another type of specialist I should consider seeing. Any ideas or suggestions?
my name is patty, I live in Nova Scotia Canada, I just got out of our best Hospital in Halifax, was there for 7 days all related to right upper quadrant pain exactly as you describe, I also have a small cyst on my liver, my pain is exactly like yours, started pain under right rib (almost like it is behind the rib)and then a few weeks later it started to go all along my RUQ and sneezing or coughing was impossible, they did many tests at the hospital, one test revealed that my bowel was all located on the right side of my body. I kept telling them that I think it is adhesions (as I know from previous surgery that I have them on my liver. I am wondering what the outcome was for you as I did not get a diagnosis, was mad and signed myself out of hospital 2 days ago. anyone with this type of pain I need all the help I can get, cant stand the pain.

this is patty again, I forgot to mention that my pancreas count was elevated too. And they did a scope down my throat and found undigested food and thought that odd, but didn't say much about it, it seems like no one has a name for this yet, but I plan on taking some of these posts to the doctor in Halifax, after all someone has to be the first to put all the pieces together.
I had a severe fall on the ice right before Christmas, 2013. Suffered concussion and multiple back injuries. I also have URQ pain identical to what you are describing. I have several disc bulges including one at t9-t10 which I assumed was the cause of the constant back pain. I had ultrasound of liver, gallbladder etc. as well as a normal hida scan and normal blood work. I am in such debilitating pain I cannot even tell you how bad it is. Have you found any answers as I too feel one of my internal organs is wasting away.
I've read many of the posts here and can relate. I too have Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and the pain from the spasms takes one's breath away! When the docs finally figured out what was wrong with me, they performed an ERCP with sphincterotomy which has helped the pain. However, if you are scheduled for this, be prepared for pancreatitis after the procedure since it can happen. The pain is very similar to the SOD spasms and it goes on for weeks.......at least mine did.
I too have stabbing upper quadrant pain with mid and upper back pain constant. My blood work was fine and hida scan for liver and gallbladder fine too. Mine has gone on for six months since an airborne fall on icy concrete which I landed on back and head. I do have a disc herniation at t10 which they said could be causing referred pain to URQ Have you had an mri?
Your HIDA scan is too high. your pain is most likely your gallbladder cramping. I just went through the same problem and it took months for my doctor to refer me to a surgeon that would take out my gallbladder due to hyper activity.
i think I can help u contact me
