Hi, these symptoms sound exactly like the ones I have been experiencing for a few years now. Lots of tests - no results. I can describe the pain as an annoying 'prickly pain', but if I, for example, lean too hard against the kitchen bench, whilst washing the dishes, the pain will become more intense and forces me to back off. If I press in the area, I can't get the same sensation, which is weird. There are many body-curl type exercises on certain gym equipment that I am unable to do due to the pain becoming excruciating. I too feel as though it's nerve pain, as, from what I can tell, the 'spot' is very close to the surface of the skin, in the fat layer almost (hard to explain).
There is a possibility that it's endometriosis or some scar tissue mayby, as I first started experiencing the pain in this area, only after I had, what I'm sure was, a ruptured ovarian cyst (undiagnosed).
The GPs don't seem overly concerned to find out what it is, in fact depression was one suggestion by one when I first discussed the issue. I was crying during the consultation due to lack of sleep from pain and worry. ie. Pain = No Sleep = Signs of Depression = Crying. Yes, I'm 100% sure it's not depression!
I have a hiatal hernia which has to be opperated on, because its starting to pull my duodenum, etc., out of alignment with my intestines. I have severe pain that makes me bend over in pain for awhile, every once in a while, during the day. I have trouble breathing because of the place my stomach has come up through my diaphragm (hiatal hernia), and I am waiting for an operation. It sometimes is too difficult to breathe because everything out of place, makes everyting else work in an unbalanced way. This is where I am. I had to wait till I was 65 for insurance because I could not afford astronomical insurance premiums, and they wouldnt help me with a 'pre-existing' condition, which I didnt know I had for a long time. Your symptoms are quite alot like mine, but milder....get it checked out.

After several days of the same, left of the belly button-2 inch diameter, pain I went to my Doc. I thought I had a Pepetic Ulcer after self diagnosing through Mayo Clinic. The Doc thought it was strange that it was so close to the naval considering ulcers are usually closer to the breast bone. He drew blood and sent off for testing. On the return --> My blood tested positive for H Pylori Bacteria, which is what causes the pain. I am going to pick up antibiotics today & it should clear out my system. I read many articles on the bacteria and only 10% of Americans will get this bacteria. I really hope this helps someone! I am attaching a link to an article about the bacteria. Once again, same pains with nausea and near the belly button.

I know this was posted over a year ago but I'd like to inform you all that I've had all the tests in the world that you can have done ex: x-ray, scopes, ultrasounds, you name it and was diagnosed with acid reflux, gastritis, and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome.) Earlier in my childhood (5-7) I had stomach ulcers but have now grown out of them. Thank goodness!! With that being said most of you are describing symptoms of IBS (check it out) and will not be able to "get rid" of this. They will be with you the rest of your life but there are medications which can be prescribed to relieve symptoms (or over the counter meds) such as Zantac (I use this and it helps very much.) Hope I helped at least one person! Good luck!! XOXO HoneyBee
like everyone here, i find myself here, in pain, after a search. what did we do before the internet? i actually don't remember... can't picture it. for that matter, i could digress on the hell that there was before google, but i will exercise restraint.
i came to this site really scared, my belly button hurting and my honey asleep. it is accompanied with bruises that look like stretch marks and arose suddenly, while i was in the bath. bathing to get rid of leg cramps.
i want to say, after reading everyone's post i almost feel giddy, because I MAY HAVE THE ANSWER.
it is related to mllk, and gerd, and hernias; can contribute to deppression, gingivitis, cataracts; has been cited as a cause of diverticuliitis, as well as contributing cause of diabetes, psoriasis, severe leg camps, gout, varicose veins, IBS and haemarroids, and frequent urgent need to urinate.
oh -- and arthritis. i cannot walk unassisted anymore, haven't been able to for two years, and they say i need a new hip. i am in my mid forties.
the hip thing is specifically linked to vitamin d deficiency and too much calcium i n the intracellular fluids, as well as in the muscles.
it appears to be an overabundance of calcium, but in actuality is a possibly severe deficiency of vitamin D, and a deficiency of magnesium. can be a symptom of too much stress, city life, pollution, nsaids, and many if not all antidepressants. the reuptake of calcium is blocked, and the symptoms all come from the flooding of the cells with calcium ions.
i have been assiduously avoiding sun for twelve years now. up until i learned this. i probably will not be the first goth girl to star sun worship in midlife! i hope i walk again. and after reading about the diverticulitis, i thought i wouild post my promising little bits of success here.
watch out for internal vitamin D if you are very deficient: it can make you bleed internally, or rather, on the way out, which is, to say the least, extremely disconcerting. especially do not take it with c, or on an empty stomach. i have been breaking open the gelcaps and rubbing it on my skin before getting a little sun; that seems to work best.
also do not ramp up too quickly on either that or magnesium. the latter has been showing excellent effect: i need to remember to take it -- i will report back.
also very helpful for addressing this issue is taurine: it seems to regulate or help regulate the calcium policies of tissue. a toothpaste i made for myself with taurine in it got rid of my gingivitis completely. (no pockets). *^^it works topically,*** and is excellent at relieving swelling and pain of arthritis, gout, sore belly buttons.
Also topical, replacement for nsaids: tumeric ginger chamomile salve, with a dash of cayenne. EXCELLENT. i add balm of gilead (the young budding bits of poplar, they smell wonderful) if its for leg crramps.
hope this helps everyone. will check back. in fact, i think i will post this to my blog; perhaps i will, there,
be seeing you.
I am experiancing similar pains myself and been to the doctor he thought it was Diverticulistis and gave me some anti-biotics but still had pain after a few days, got CT scan which came up clear also had pain around testies and had them ultrsounded waiting on results
That's what I'm starting to believe as well. Great point! I've been having same pain next to the belly on the left for 3 years now. I think I've developed IBS because of it, but I've have an urinary infection at first. I've done a bunch of tests it come out I had urinary infection and kidney stones. I'm going to look into this kidney thing because I know for a fact that I have kidney stones
Most men and women suffer from abdominal pain at some point or the other.if the pain is generalized or affecting more than half the abdomen then you are probably suffering from indigestion, gas or a stomach virus. But if the pain is localized,it is more a sign of a serious health problem, calling for medical attention.Related problems are many like kidney infection, kidney stones,Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, intestinal obstruction.......
Hi, I know you posted this awhile ago but I'm having gastro issues right now that brought me to this page. I wonder if migraines run in your family? There is something called an abdominal migraine that is common in children and as they get older they grow out of it or they start to morph into a migraine with head pain. I'm not sure how long her attacks are if they fit the bill or no. Something to check into. Hope by now she has no more attacks anyway!
I have the same thing, a sharp little pain that come and goes just to the left of my belly button. I recently started taking a probiotic for flatulance, don't know if this could cause it.
CHECK VITAMIN D LEVELS AND TAKE PROBIOTICS.
I have IBS and I am having this pain. It started when I was under a lot of stress and became a flare-up which I dont think has totally subsided yet. It is located in the area where the intestine is, before the sigmoid colon and I think maybe it has a hard time turning into that area because I have a severly redundant signmoid colon. I am hoping to get an ultrasound down soon to check and make sure everything is OK, but quite possibly those of you with similar pain may have IBS, especially if it is accompanied by diarhea or constipation, gas, nausea or a bloated feeling.
