just try increase soluable and non soluable fibre (metamucil and psyllum husks). I had this for years, it is likely to be the beginning of diverticula (which are small pouches in the colon) and increased fibre in your diet should stop it

good luck

Hey I have the same pain but I only experiance it about once a month so far and my first experiance with it was in october.
I have a normal diet, I eat fiber and keep up with my vitamins. I go to the bathroom regularily both 1&2 no diahrea or prior stomach or in that area problems. However, the first time it was about two finger widths down and 2-3 finger widths over to the left and the pain seemed more superficial not deep. but it was stabbing intolerable pain i was was in light tears about it. and it was at night so i just went to bed hoping that it would go away. I fell asleep and the next morning i woke up it was very tender. not stabbing pain, and evetually the tenderness just became a numbing pain and then it went away completely and never happened again until yesturday.

I have no idea what was going on, so i kinda described the pain and area to my proffesor and he expressed concern saying it was not normal and the have a doctor look at it and more then likely they will be doing a referal to an ultrasound. Other than that he said he couldn't really give an answer without a an examination.

So im going to see a doctor this weekend. So i'll report back....but i hate this....its literally very painful and taking a toll on my schooling... im in school to be an RMT and i cant have this happening...

I found this post because I had the exact same thing starting this morning and have experienced it before. It just kind of snuck up all of a sudden about an inch to the left of my belly button and man, it got to hurting real bad, so I couldn't straighten up all the way. It felt like my muscle was torn or I was being burnt, sharp pain, almost like a charlie horse in my gut. I got worried when I saw all the thousands of dollars people have spent trying to diagnose the same symptoms to no avail. Actually, while reading through the posts grimacing in pain I was drinking coffee (which makes me poop) and felt like I might need to go. That spot was hurting so bad I had to kind of straighten my torso as vertical as possible and had to hold my hand over that spot because otherwise when I tried to push (even a tiny bit) I about DIED. But I did in fact have to go and after I did I felt IMMEDIATE relief. I wasn't aware of it if I was constipated; if I am I don't think it's too bad because I do go at least once a day. I do have acid reflux/GERD but I don't think that had anything to do with it - different kind of hurt. As a baby I developed a hernia that causes me to have a little outtie but I don't (think?) it gives me any trouble. I wonder if a damage to the lining of your stomach around your belly button in combination with full bowels can put pressure on that spot and make you hurt so bad? From the way everything went down with me, that seems like a good guess at least. I'm interested to see if anyone else can make the same connection. I'm going to buy stool softener to keep in the house right away and think I should drink more water. I don't ever want to feel that again.

The majority of the digestive system is located on the left side of the stomach. Hence, pain here is usually associated with digestive trouble of some sort. The pain could be being caused by something as simple as constipation or some other sort of indigestion, in which case it is fairly easily remedied by an over-the-counter medicine.
In some cases, however, your left side stomach pain could be associated with a more serious situation. In this case, the specific location of the pain can help in determining the cause. If your pain is on the upper left side of your stomach, this might indicate a problem with your stomach itself, your pancreas or your spleen. Problems with these organs can be serious, from ulcers of the stomach to spleen abscess. If you suspect any such problem, schedule an appointment with your physician, and he or she can help you determine your best course of action.

If your left side stomach pain is lower on your abdomen, it is most likely an issue with your lower gastrointestinal tract. In people older than 40, this might commonly be diverticulitis, an infection in small pouches in your lower intestine that comes naturally with age. This condition is often treatable with rest and at-home care, but it is best to consult your doctor. If pain in the lower left stomach is accompanied by severe digestive issues such as chronic diarrhea, you might want to get a colonoscopy to determine if your colon and lower intestine are inflamed. I would recomend you to take 2 alieve, or tynonol, or advil. Since this is ur 1st time in the morning getting it. Get rest. Also if you can take over the counter medicine such as, Antacid, Malox max, or Gas X. And take some rest. Get a extra pillow and put it by ur stomach. This should help. If it does, choose as best answer so i would know. Thankyou!!!

I have the same pains, they've been going on for about 4 months, 1 month ago I had an ovarian sist on my left ovary but its dissolved now. I also have acid reflux and a week or so ago I went to my docter and he said the problem was gastritis too. He told me if its not better in a few days with my medication he gave me, Omeprazole, then I should go back. I'm going back probably because the acid pain is better, but I still am having the little hole/throbbing feeling on the left of my belly button. I'm also experiences random pains up my esophagus straight towards my, usually, left side of my chest but sometimes my right too. If I get diagnoised with anything else, I'll be sure to post it :/

My heart goes out to you regarding your daughter's illness. I had to reply to this because my daughter has experienced the same thing for 4 years now. We have gone through ALL of the same issues........she has been tested for Crohn's, had the x-rays, cat scans, MRI's, and even been evaluated for eating disorders. It has been awful. She recently went to Cedars Sinai and had an ERCP.....she still has pain and nausea. She vomits about once a week but deals with nausea constantly. No one takes her seriously yet she has no quality of life and struggles with the pain and nausea constantly. As her mother I have watched her health deteriorate and know that her pain is real. She was once a thriving young lady and is now a very sick and depressed individual that thinks no one in the medical profession cares. If you have found any answers I would appreciate a reply. My daughter has been put on Methadone and Zofran if that helps you at all. Thanks!

Um ok, I'm thirteen and I've had it about once every six months, always on left side. Hurts very bad. When I was about four the doctors were going to remove something on the left side. Come the day of sugary, it stops. Dont know what it is, maybe diverticulitis? 

I've had pain near my belly button, an inch to the left and when I push on the lower part of my belly button for 1-2 years now.  I'm 29, female, and consider myself overall healthy.  I've been ignoring the pain because like most of you say, when the doctors are stumped, they don't take you seriously, prescribe pain meds, and show you the exit.  For a few months, I took comfort in the normal result of my recent ultrasound (it was painful though since the lady had to push the knob thing right into the pain area.  The pain started out like a tiny hard lump to the left of my belly button, now it's to the lower left and below my belly button.  It hurts and very sensitive when I push on it, like a bruise.  If I leave it alone, it doesn't hurt.  But today I felt it hurting on it's own, like a pinching feeling.  Almost like a pinching sensation on a bruised spot.  I also notice the pain when I wear jeans, bend over, and the band hits right on the pain spot.  Once, when I was pushing a small store cart, I accidentally bumped into the handle of the cart and it hurt more than it should have.  I'm going to my doctors appointment tomorrow to really try to get to the bottom of it, so far I've done an ultrasound, came back normal.  I say a lot of prayers to get me through the day as it can sometimes cause you to be depressed at times.  I would describe the pain part not deep into my belly, like most of you say, more on the abdominal wall/fatty tissues.  My best guess from all the research I've done and how it feels to me would be an inflammed muscle, or scar tissue.  Though, I've never had any surgeries.  I haven't had this pain before, I had a baby normal delivery and it started when he was like 5, he just turned 7.  Stress can do a lot of damage to any part of your body so hoping it's just something stress-related.  I have had strong episodes of acid reflux before but only occasionally and was never diagnosed with acid reflux.  I will keep you guys posted on what my doctor will say tomorrow.  It's very mind-boggling to me as well as scary that it is a chronic pain that comes and goes.  No explanation.
