Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking? It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking! Thanks, Richard.

Same here, Almost a month off the cigs and I haven't really coughed up anything.Got my doc to prescribe Ativan so I could sleep at night. It gets better over time, first two weeks were the worst for me. Now I'm really feeling better than I have in years. Good luck and get better soon!
Does anyone know if smoking e-cigs prolongs sob ?
I ve been reading up on those e-cigs,and what I ve read it doesnt look good .lots of country have banned them the e p a is trying to get them under their umbrella so that they can control them.it may be because the cig industry has released their dogs on them, lots of big money to lose time will tell.
Can some one tell me please, when you have sob do you just wake up one morning and its gone ,or does it go away a little day by day? Thanks.
I have smoked for 39 years and have been off cigarettes for 6 months. I find that I can not walk at a regular pace without getting out of breath. Can not do stairs as I become breathless. Have not told the Doctor yet. But...have put on weight since quitting.
HI, no you dont just wake up one morning and its gone, its a day by day thing where one day you breath pretty good and the next you cant catch your breath but day by day it gets better some days it feels as its gone just to catch you the next with panic attacks ,but it fades away and soon its gone.. good luck.
I have that symptom also. You are not alone. Sometimes I feel like I'm not all there and I have sensitivity to light once in a while. I also have balance problems since I quit smoking. I quit over 200 days ago. As for SOB, mine was really bad in the beginning. One week it would be very scary and another week I would feel really great. It comes and goes, but I hardly get it anymore and if I do it isn't as bad as in the beginning of my quit. Getting exercise is important, like vigorous exercise. Whenever I didn't get any exercise my symptoms would come back and it would get worse. I also cut caffeine and soda and switched to decaf teas (ginger or green) and coconut water to combat all the toxins. As always I bring a water bottle everywhere I go also. Hope I helped.
Yes hello i have the same issue and im 17 smoked for 5 years since 12 and i am hitting and just 3 weeks off i have nearly felt as if i cant even breath let alone short off breath even got to a point of calling a ambulance and they checked my chest they xray and blood test said everything's fine so just saying i personally think it is because of smoking. But doctor says its anxiety and i don't think its anxiety! It's killing me some one whos has these feelings and are now gone plz tell me how long it took you guys ??
You will be o k within a couple of months, just chill out. dont panic.
Well its been a long time I have watched this board, I have seen people come here sure that they were dying, only to find out that they may live, grief turned into joy,It was the same with me. Lots of the first ones who came here promised to return with resullts but they didnt. I really wish all the very best from the botton of my heart, If anyone knows the fear and pain from SOB its me , I suffered with it for 4 years before findintg this site, I was telling everone i had COPD and only a rfew months to live.; I went through 3 doctors hospital all of that no answer.; I waited every night for the grim reaper.Today is my birthday I never thought I would make this one. thank you all, and best of luck in the future.
I've had the same thing. I found that a ventolin puffer sorts it out (the steroids that asthmatics use in case it's called something different elsewhere). Temporarily anyway, for a few hours. Certainly enough to get to sleep.
Yeah this aint easy lulz.  First 24 hours, panic attacks,(which i have never had before) cant sleep, fall asleep for a minute or two then wake up struggling for air, stomach bloated and churning, chest tight (swear i was having a heart attack at times)  arms and face tingling (which i was told were capillaries opening back up and blood flowing freely again), cravings, foggy head, no stamina.  This is day four.  Starting to get over the headache, can finally eat again, and starting to produce the lung cheese.  Hey, might take a while, but after 26 years of smoking I think i can wait it out.
