Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

Can anybody tell me if shortness of breath after stopping smoking is normal? I am 32 years old, male, smoked 8-9 cigarettes a day for about 15 years. I stopped smoking three weeks ago. I have never been short of breath in my life, however since I stopped smoking, I find myself out of breath, at strange times, even when sitting at rest. Is this just part of stopping smoking?
It seems to be very difficult to find information on the side effects of stopping smoking!
Thanks,
Richard.

Yeah I went on because of them. Got tired of how I felt and told them to stop them while I was in the hospital
I question how that could be every day...feeling worse after quitting...but all I can do is hope that one day I can say I am so glad I quit!

Funny 9 months and you can't even say yeah I'm happy I quit. Very sad. I know more people that have quit and was fine with no problem than like us that are struggling? Maybe were were all just mental to begin with and smoking just hide it? HAHA

OMG...maybe you are right...bahahahahahahaha......
hahahaha! I too think I am nuts for not feeling like a new person...18 months in, but I am very happy that I quit, but I want the new me to be a 100% me. I am whining.

And there lies half the problem. Trust me when I say it would be real easy for me to slip back in to that spiral. Focusing on the positive while that huge black cloud is overhead is not easy.Taking you mind off of it can help a lot, bs on the phone, honey do projects etc....One time I was going through a bad one, my wife had a computer issue( windows 8) . So as usual I start digging into it. 30 minutes later after I fixed it, I realize my sob and chest pain were gone.
I was just kidding but agree you need to keep yourself busy. I am the king of keeping busy but it takes just a few seconds for that black cloud to enter. I have not read about this problem but the last few weeks I could swear I smell smoke? Sometimes so much so I choke. How messed up is that? Oh well I'll just keep plugging away and I'm sure one day I will look back at this and laugh how batty I was over this. Keith
I can smell smoke from time to time as well. But my sense of smell now is exponentially stronger than what it was. My son works out a lot and leaves the supplement on the kitchen island and I can smell it from 3 rooms and 90 feet away when its open and I hate that smell. I told my daughter to close the orange juice from my bedroom this morning......verrrrry strange.

Glad I'm not the only one. I don't really notice a difference in my taste buds or smell like other have reported. Now that you're home relax and get better.
Well today is 02/26/ 2014 my 250 days smoke free, yes I feel a hell of a lot better than I did in the beginning and it gets better each day now. I dont really understand why someone would not be better after 18 months, even if they are over weight . but who knows if they dont cheat a little thinking no one knows. but the body knows, so you people who do this , its your reward for cheating and lieing, even if you had the worst case you would have a great inprovement after 18 months . Keith I hope you are feeling better friend, hang in there I think I can see the finish line coming up .
I have not cheated, and will not cheat, as I know me, and it would be back at square one immediately, smoking a pack a day! I am 67 years old, and I am sure I am better for quitting as who knows how I would be feeling if I did not stop! I do love the handle of being a non smoker! I have one daughter who is a doctor and every time I see her she hugs me, and I know she is checking to see if I smell like smoke! HaHa!
I know...I have been thinking about that all night...18 months ugh...
