Shortness of breath after stopping smoking

i BLAME NO ONE EXCEPT ME, But why would they go to extreams to keep people hooked on their cigs ? I call that cold bloody muder. I"m sorry but thats the way it looks to me, and I will get some answers beleive that. I will go where ever the trail leads , I have a few years left so I might as well do some good I have talked to all 4 networks but they didn"t seem interested but I will pester them all day ever daym till they do. and all the news print they are really on my list and the stinking politicans that take money from them its all good in the hood, but mister I"m not in your hood.

My mail box runneth over. I had forgot that the federal gov. and the states settled this a few years ago ,The tobacco companies paid out hundreds of billions of dollars for the fed and the states to forgive them and let them keep doing the same to joe public. where the money went is any ones guess.I guess those comercials on t v IS THE 500 BILLION DOLLARS. So, how is everyone doing out there?...Yesterday was a pretty good day until I had to contact my HR office and advise them of my SOB and how was I going to be able to get out my building when they do their fire tests (which they do periodically once the weather breaks)...I work in a courthouse on the 6th floor...when you walk the stairs it's 2 flights per floor, so we are talking 12 flights...I figured going down won't be so bad...but then we have to walk outside, across the street and deep into a parking lot to be accounted for.   There is no way I will be able to do that.  I find myself having to calculate ever scenario in my head of things that could occur once I leave my home so that I don't get "stuck" not knowing how I am going to get from point A to point B because of the SOB.  It's really upsetting.   Friday I go for my pulmonary function test, then the following week I go to the Asthma Center.  There is a part of me wishing for a diagnosis but then there is a part of me scared to death of a diagnosis...the only reason I would want one is to then be able to see if it's treatable ...not knowing and having everything come back normal allows doctors to forget about you because "there is nothing wrong" when we know there definitely is something wrong with us.   123Angel

Hopefully your HR people will come up with a plan. I hope all the tests come out ok you really don't want asthma it's not fun. For some reason, I was hit hard with depression this morning and I'm trying hard to work my way out of it. I'm trying to just accept all these feelings instead of constantly asking why me? Millions of people go through this and it's just something I need to work through regardless how tough this has been. ~Keith

What blows me away is all of this coming out after I quit smoking. I felt great when I was a smoker and would would never start again because it may be too late to help these symptoms now so I'm just moving forward. It feels like a life time even though it's been only 9 months. I know it has to take more time for the brain to adjust to the lack of stimulant it had for 28 years in nicotine. I just hope it comes soon as this is really depleting me of my happiness I deserve. ~Keith

Yes Keith...some days are worse than others.  I just think the whole situation is sad...your right....you did something that you thought was good for you and then this occurs....

So did you have any of these issues prior to quitting smoking like the depression?

Ok...so, let me tell you who I was prior to April 26, 2013....I was a typical loud mouth New Jersey girl who loved to laugh, loved life, loved going to the shore, loved sports (my husband is a major sports fanatic so, in turn, I became one over the years), loved being outside and doing things with my number one love...my family.  The only time I experienced any form of depression would have been when my mother passed away some 11 years ago.  I think that's normal.   Now that I developed SOB, I still try to "act" happy all the time, in fact, my best friend came over last Sunday and said to me she has no idea how I am not crying all the time because she would be...  I do cry a lot, because I think what my life has become it's sad....I can't push myself to get better because Keith...if I try, I feel like I am going to have a heart attack or stroke....I feel like this SOB has 100% affected my life in the fact that I don't go out unless I have to because of the walking.   My husband and I attended a wedding last weekend and I literally had to hold onto his arm to walk...I am 46 years old and I felt like I was 80.   I look at my kids and my husband and I pray every day and worry every day that I am around for them for years to come and that I didn't wait too long to stop smoking.  It's sad...my girls have begged me to stop smoking for years...I finally stop, cold turkey and they see me suffering and I try to cover it up for them but I can't all the time and my one daughter said I'm sorry I should have never asked you to stop.   How sad is that....I never won't my kids to carry that burden...who would have thought this would have happened?  So, Keith...if there is such a thing I was a happy, healthy smoker....in fact, none of my doctors even knew I smoked, I had to tell them. I never had unhealthy levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. each check up....I just smoked and I was perfectly fine....I stopped and I am the most unhealthy person ever...

Wow that is the same as me. I have to believe it will get better. I just can't accept that I quit and get sick. You are supposed to feel better but it just may take some time. If you read every post there were some here that said it took a year or so. I have a friend that this happened to as well and he said after 12 or 13 months it all went away. That was 4 years ago. I think this is a wake up call and once we feel better we will realize how much we dealt with to get to that point so we never pick up another cig again. ~Keith

Keith...I pray for that every day....and this is why I keep checking this forum....for inspiration...because there are days I lose faith...which is normal, but I have to believe that I will get better and I can honestly say....I will never pick up another cigarette again!

That is exactly my situation as well. I have to believe that it will get better over time. There are others that posted here that took over a year so I have to just wait it out and plug away. Don't loose hope you sound like a really nice person your family will help you through this as will mine. ~Keith
