Hi, I have really large stomach and ‘m thinking about having abdominalplasty… Is there anyone here who could give me a tip?? What is it like? How much time will I neet to recover from operation??? Is there another better treatment that I should consider? Thank you.
If you’ve already made up your mind to have a surgical procedure, than abdominoplasty is one of the best solutions for you. In general, healing process is sow after any surgery – it is not different with abdominoplasty. You may also experience some tightness around the wound for some time. I hope you don’t smoke because if you do, that can cause some unwanted complications. Anyway, as far as I know, most people are able return to work between two to four weeks after the operation, but you’ll “get to normal” after at least six weeks.
Just a piece of advice, i had one, not a usual thing I have lost about 200 lbs. from gastric bypass, and to be honest with you had to have a hernia repaired and my surgeon suggested it.. .so I said hey why not. Right now 10 days out.. Painful, have to wear a wrap. im cut from my sternum to my pubic area from hip to hip.. so it isnt easy .. I would consider it.. decided which is better to deal with the skin or the pain for 6 weeks.. drains, not going anywere and being bored out of your mind.. plus the cost.. sometimes not cheap...
Hi! My mom also needs a weight reduction surgery as her health is also in stake. I was wondering if you could tell me if insurance is going to cover for at least one part of the surgery considering that her health is in risk with 75 kg over weight.
I would also like to know if you need to follow any new diet now to remain the same size because I heard that most people go back to where they were before months or years after the surgery. What do you know about this? Did you get any special advice regarding this from your surgeon or other doctors?

Hi..i am now into my second week of recovery after an adominoplasty...i lost 55 kgs, through good diet and alot of exercise and had alot of overhang...you must think alot before you have this done as i am going through alot of pain and tightness which is quite uncomfortable. I did not realise recovery would be so long as i was told 'oh after a week you'll be fine'...also the new shape i am yet to see and am praying for the swelling to go down so as i have a better shape than what i do now....this is actually a fear of mine at the moment, that the way i look now will be the way i will stay, yet they say it wil take 18months to see the results...also bordem is another factor...as long as you don't mind laying flat and looking at the ceiling...all i am saying is really think about it before you take the step.. XD
Hi - I just read your post of 9/11/06. I need to decide by Thursday whether to have an adbdominal plasty in Portland. 16 days post opt I need to attend a large show which will require lots of walking 3 - 5 miles. Am I crazy to think I will be able to do it?
I am curious if you made the decision to have this surgery. I am also in the Northwest and have considered it for many years due to a large flap of skin from numerous abdominal surgery over the years. Also from those surgeries, I know that recovery depends on the individual and definitely the state of mind of that person. I have always recovered quite quickly from major surgery...however have learned the hard way that the body will have its three weeks, no matter how willing of a participant you are in that healing! I do a lot of tradeshows and they wear you out. At this point, you made the decision one way or another. I am interested in learning your decision and feelings after you DO have the surgery.
To all of you considering this procedure.....I don't regret it for a minute. I have a very high tolerance for pain and I found it to be extremely painful...almost as bad as back surgery. The garment they put around you is very helpful for the pain and you absolutely need to wear it for at least 6 weeks post op. I had 2 rows of stitches from breastbone to pelvis (inside holding the muscle back where it belonged) and the incision was from hip to hip. Couple of drains and we are set to go. My doc did a wonderful job. :-D My surgery was in 2003 on valentines day and is hasn't been very long that I can finally feel myself touching my abdomen...that was a little weird and it still feels kind of numb but not uncomfortable. I hope this info helps anyone considering this procedure.
I am just over two weeks from mine and recovery has been great. I also had lipo and umbilical surgery repair! It is worth it! The only bad about it is restricting my activity as I am ready to get back to work, lawn work, etc.. It is worth it and to have my body back after childbirth. :D
Hello, Im 22 years old and i had a baby 7 months ago....lately ive been considering this surgery because my stomach was so huge from my pregnancy that i have stretch marks and loose skin around the abdomine area....the thing that has me thinking is that i might want more children.....what should i do???do u think i should get??also do you think it will be easier for me for recovery due to the fact that i had a c-section?? :-)

Just an FYI...I am 10days post surgery. I feel GREAT! Look for a physican that is pro-active in your recovery! Mine was AWESOME! I was asked what I wanted for my plan of recovery. I was put on a Pain pump (inserted in your side) for 24 hours. The biggest pain was the two drain blubs...but they were diffenently needed. Once removed..(7days after surgery)I have had no pain. I didnt even take any script. pain pills. Just tylenol at night for rest.
AGAIN...the most important thing is finding the right surgeon to do it! It was worth every penny to me. I feel young again! I am wearing my wrap and I know I need to play it slow for a while. But I am finding lots of books and crafts to catch up on.

I am considering having a tummy tuck since i will need to have my abdominal muscles stitched, my doctor recommended that after 4 kids I should really think of removing the extra skin left over from my last pregnancy.
The only thing that puts me off is the pain .
In your case , since you are so young and only have one child , I would wait a little longer until you decide you are sure about not having any more children.

If you are serious about the procedure, just be aware its very painful. It takes approx 12 - 18 months to really recover properly and you will be left with a HUGE scar. I have had the procedure just a year ago tmrw. Wait till you have had all your children before considering this op. Its a big one..!! Hope this helps..michelle South Wales.
