I have begun experiencing this in the last few years. It doesn't exclusively happen with alcohol though. The first time I drank a coffee and I was in so much pain, sweating, sick, anxious. I put it down to the amount of stress I was under at the time. But I'm experiencing it far more frequently. Alcohol definitely sets it off 90% of the times I have a drink (I dont drink a lot at all for other reasons). I also experience it when traveling in the car if we are driving over some hills - im sure its the change in altitude. I wish I knew what it was. I feel like its serious but I don't know if my doctor will take me seriously. I mentioned it to her once but she didn't think it was worth investigating. A few nights ago I had to sit down in a supermarket aisle because it hurt to stand. I'm not the type to complain a lot but kind of scared that I could be making things worse for myself.
Tums only pain relief. Its horrible pain.refered pain after wine coolers or rootbeer.
This happens because of lymphatic System coming under sudden stress. Few get this stress with Vodka so few with wines. It varies person to person. Once the body copes the alcohol pain subsides. There is nothing you can do to avoid this from happening. I tried having heavy side snacks, drink without soda, neat shots, warm water mixing ... nothing works. I had to bear that 5 minutes pain of regret. So the solution is ..... identify which type gives you this syphilitic system stress and simply avoid or bare.
I have the same problem but only when I drink any alcohol mixed with pop or alcohol with lots of sugar. Rum and coke or Jamaican rum are by far the worst for me, as it happens almost right away. Instant heavy arms and chest and a weird feeling in my stomach sometimes sweating like crazy. 30 minutes to an hour it goes away. I can drink tons beer with no issues. Super weird....
I've assumed that everyone gets this pain after drinking wine, I'm shocked to learn that not everyone gets it.
Same thing with me. It happens with my right arm and I'm normally fine 5 to 10 minutes later, even if I continue to drink.
I also have the same symptoms, always have. I don't drink because of it. It's too painful to have to go through. I talked to my doctor and they say it is the way nerves react to alcohol. It's a sign of allergy to certain types of alcohol and how they are made and what types of additives are used. Also if you have some forms of fibromyalgia, you will tend to react worse than othere.
How did your surgery turn out? Can you now drink without excruciating pain?
I experience pretty much what everyone ha spotted so far...
HOWEVER
I also get it sometimes when I drink something really sweet like juice, aloe juice, etc.
It is awful.
What is it??!!!

So what is this ailment called so I can Google it better?
Unfortunately it's not the gallbladder as I had mine out over 19 years ago and I still have this problem.
Wondering if anyone knows anything new. I am a 22 year old who gets horrible pain following even one sip of alcohol. It commonly happens with wine and spirits, not beer. The pain is around for a few minutes then gone. I cannot find any real reason for this.
I've had my gallbladder remover nearly 20 years ago and I get those pains within 5 minutes of drinking a small glass of wine.
I had that problem with drinking wine years ago muscle spasms in my shoulders I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with that problem but I really would like to know what brings that spasm on
So you dont get the pains with diet coke!? I must know because this just happened to me last night and yes, i've noticed it happens with sugary alcoholic drinks or when i take shots with soda (which i did last night) its the worst thing ever!! That was my first and last shot because i didnt want it to happen again. :(
