Iv just come on the net looking for some advise, looks like I'm not alone with this one!! My right shoulder is in agony as we speak after drinking a toffee apple cider! I'm normall a Malibu and Diet Coke kinda drinker and have found that after two or more I'm in agony, I find that continuing to drink more helps to ease the pain, but ideally not what I want to be doing! The pain makes me feel sick! Iv eaten, so I know it's not down to having an empty stomach. Any advise would be greatly appreciated :)
This happens to me too! I started feeling it when I was in high school and I drank 4 lokos and nobody believed me!
I get the same thing, but only with certain drinks. Like dark, wine, and sometimes light. It sucks because no matter where I'm at I have to lie down and still just so that the pain would pass through ( the pain can be a bit unbearable for me)
4lokos is when it started for me!!
Can't speak for others, but it is definately not caused by gall stones in my case. Had gall bladder removed 3 years ago.
Hi,
Your pain is related to an acute hypersensitivity to alcohol. Unfortunately, some of us that aren't seasoned pro's when it comes to drinking are susceptible. It's quite similar to an allergy. You'll find that you only really experience this pain when you:
A - Drink in excess
B - Drink too fast
C - Mix your drinks.
If you avoid all of the above, you will eliminate your problem.
Background:
I am a British NHS Paramedic.

I was searching to see if anyone mentioned gallbladder. I'm actually having mine taken out next Monday. 4/17/17 I was told gallbladder problems can cause shoulder pain when drinking.
Gallbladder! If your having any stomach pain as well. Get your gallbladder checked. I'm having my removed next Monday. 4/17/17. My Dr told me gallbladder can cause shoulder pain and I was throwing up afterward drinking too. Even just one drink had me feeling pain and sick during the night. My advice is get your gallbladder checked.
Hey I'm checking with you to see how did all of your test go? What did the doctors come up with? I'm going for several different test this week and next week hoping to get an answer for this pain.
I had mine removed over 7 years ago and I started with pain maybe around 5 years ago
Me too! Only with tequila
It won't help you. I had mine removed 3 years ago. I'm 27. I still have this exact pain.
I also get this same effect when drinking margaritas or wine coolers especially. Carbonated alcoholic beverages...
I was told :
It could possibly be an acetyl aldehyde response. It comes sometimes from not having enough Molybdenum in the body. It is needed to detox Lactic acid, Acetyl Aldehyde, sulfite, and Xanthian in the body. The enzyme that converts these things needs molybdenum. Acetyl aldehyde headaches are like upper neck-aches
And also:Histamine overload is triggered by alcohol and settles in these regions and causes pressure.
I thought I was the only one to experience this as well. Apparently these are not life threatening conditions... But very uncomfortable.
