Look up Breo Ellipta. Brilliant new asthma drug.
Try Breo Ellipta. Once a day inhaler. It is brilliant! Haven't looked back. Am now going to come off Singulair to try and lose this weight and to see if the Breo holds my asthma in check.
Breo Ellipta. Once a day inhaler. Bloody miracle!
I was on Prednisone and am still on Singulair and have put on 10 lbs over the last 6 weeks. I knew that Prednisone makes me crave food but I did not know about Singulair. I am finished with the Pred now and I will stop the Singular. Does anyone know if there is something I can take that will help my asthma and allergies besides Singular?
Thank you everyone for taking the time to share your experiences.

Ok. So I have been on Singulair since Oct 2015. Also on Citirizine (Zyrtec) for at least 18 months....daily. Was 80 pounds over wright when I started Singulair. That is....200lbs. I'm 5ft 2in. I spent this winter (I currently live in Alaska) cross country skiing and biking on the trails. Apart from a few bad days, have eaten well under 2000 calories a day. Usually averaging 1500 daily. I don't eat junk....most of it brings me out in hives. Eat very little dairy fat, little no red meat. I don't drink alcohol to pop or put flavourings in my water. I weighed myself the other day.....still at the 200 lb mark. I though maybe it was the beginning of the menopause. I am allergic to my own progesterone so thought that may be a factor. But then when I read about the experience of MANY Singulair users...specifically the extra tummy and back fat, the penny dropped. It's not that the weight loss is slow.....I could cope with that. It that it has stopped completely. As if some mechanism has just been switched off. I sound calm but I am soooo pissed off. I admit that my extra weight is due to food being my go to when I am angry or stressed....but I haven't used food in that way for ages. Once I get on a weight loss program I stick with it....and I have worked so hard this time with absolutely no results....apart from feeling good because I am putting good food into my body. I am having to diet just so I won't put on anymore weight!! At 80 pounds over weight one moves differently, one isn't as mobile or flexible. I don't wear the clothes I like. So, last night was my first night off Singulair and I haven't taken my Zyrtec today. I am on Breo Ellipta still though. My dietary intake is as clean and fresh as I can get it so, you hopefuls, watch this space. I will keep you updated as to my progress and, cross finger, weight loss. And to all you naysayers out there who say I need to eat less.....bite it. If you don't put on weight with Singulair....great, I'm happy for you. But I'm not you. Too all those waiting with baited breath.....ill be back with an update.
My 9yr old has been taking this medication for 6mths and has put on alot of weight, they are very active with karate and various other sports, want to know why about the weight gain
I was looking up the side effects for singular because I have been constipated, and I saw all the comments on weight gain and bloating. I am so bloated it is very uncomfortable. I have also gained weight but would have never guessed it was the singular. I am going to get off of it.rhyme
I gained 60 lbs in a year. Yes 60...I'm 31 and have never had a gut, all my weight goes to my legs and yet here i am with a gut. I went on a strict pure diet and worked out like I was on speed for 3 months and only lost ten lbs. I'm glad to see that I may not be crazy. I also have the confusion, attention loss, odd vivid dreams and the anger outbursts. I'm afraid to stop taking them however, I couldn't breath out of my nose for years before I started.
Hi yes from my experience singulair does cause weight gain. My daughter was an extremely skinny 5 year old when she started taking singulair to control her asthma. She slowly but surely started gaining weight and went through her youth as a pudgy kid which I am sure is a result of the singulair. The good news is that she has outgrown her asthma to some extent and over time has become a thin and fit young lady. There is a new monthly injection available called xolair which she may try. I would be interested in knowing if that causes weight gain
How long after you stopped taking it did you begin to lose weight? I gained 6 pounds in a month that I was on it. I only took it for 30 days but I can't seem to lose it no matter how well I eat or exercise.
you are soooooo right. I have been on singulair for about 6 months now, the same time started the gym .Lost no weight and seem so big in the back and stomach area. Never in the past has it EVER been to this weight, so glad to find this out. Of course I will stop the singulair and keep trying.
Sometimes, it's not just eating. I have not changed my eating habits at all and I eat primarily a vegan/vegetarian diet. I've gained 15 pounds. I work out every day, I dance 3 days a week, and I walk 10,000 steps a day. I even track my food and calories. It's not just eating. This weight gain started just after I started taking singular.
I'm exercising like crazy to try and offset the extra pounds. I barely eat anything and yet my weight is still increasing... What am I to do??
I look and feel full, but my stomach growls cause I haven't been eating much. Please help. I worked hard to get where I was (weight-wise) and don't want to lose it.
But now it seems I'm working harder than ever and nothing is budging. How long til it comes off if I stop?

Hi again everyone.
I posted on here 7 months ago and said I would update. I am sad to say that my weight has continued increasing.
August 2015 I weighed 125. Stopped taking some pcos medicines (metformin and spironlactone) and went up to 135 in September.
October 2015 I started taking Singular and began steady weight gain.
January 2016 I stopped taking singular and weighed 145.
April 2016 started taking Metformin again.
May 2016 started taking Escitalopram.
Now, August 2016, I am 157.
Since January, I have taken Singular when I am having very bad allergies. I gain about 2 pounds every time I take it and do not go back down. Last week I took it 1 time and literally gained 2 pounds. Now I'm stuck at 157.
I've had to buy new clothes and now I'm also on medicine for anxiety. I want to lose this weight! I admit, I'm not the picture of health, but I don't think my eating habits or exercise have changed that much in a year. Can we all submit claims to Singular? Has anyone tried contacting them?
