I have been having this problem for years. One time I got really sick when I was a pre-teen and one of these hail size chunks came up after i had sickening bad breath for days. It has never been that bad since but the smell is awful and embarassing. I'm glad to not be the only one but the tonsil removal ... I may have to think twice

Hello

I have this problem for years. I use an old mechanical pencil (very thin tip) to remove them as soon as I feel them. Just keep an eye on the cleaning of the mechanical pencil. It is the easiest way to remove them that I found.

Emilio

FOUND ON WIKIPEDIA I DID NOT WRITE THIS.

The most aggressive form of treatment involves surgical removal of the stone, via oral curette or a tonsillectomy to remove the tonsils.

For large crevices, an effective tool for digging out a stone is an ear curette. The curette is used primarily for the removal of ear wax, but is effective for removal of tonsil stones as well. It comprises a long thin metal stick with a tiny metal loop at the end. Alternatives include the curved end of a hair grip (bobby pin), crochet needle, or a cotton swab, although this is not recommended because it is known to cause infection due to the coating of the bobby pin that can flake into the cavity.

A longer term cure is possible by using laser resurfacing. The procedure is called laser tonsillectomy, or laser tonsillectomy. This technique can be performed under local anaesthetic, using the scanned carbon dioxide laser, which vaporises and removes the surface of the tonsils. In this way, the edges of the crypts and crevices that collect the debris are flattened out, so that they can no longer trap material. Therefore stones, which are almost like pearls forming from a grain of sand, cannot form.

The most drastic method, a tonsillectomy, is not usually indicated or recommended, but will provide permanent relief.

YEAH! I have had these for quite some time. Its a Tonsillolith, or tonsil stone. I notice I get them after eating pizza or any foods with melted cheese. This sounds gross, but I believe its melted cheese collecting in the folds of the tonsils. If you smell them after removal it smells like putrified aged cheese. Get your tonsils taken out!

However, the tonsilar crypts often provide such an inviting environment to bacteria that bacterial colonies may form solidified "plugs" or "stones" within the crypts. In particular, sufferers of chronic sinusitis or post-nasal drip frequently suffer from these overgrowths of bacteria in the tonsilar crypts. These small whitish plugs, termed "tonsilloliths" and sometimes known as "tonsil stones," have a foul smell and can contribute to bad breath; furthermore, they can obstruct the normal flow of pus from the crypts, and may irritate the throat (people with tonsil stones may complain of the feeling that something is stuck in their throat).

OMG I just had a really hard pebble that is brownish in color that fell out. Unlike the white pebbles, these stones are literally hard to break apart. Hard like little rocks. and yup it smells the same as the others ---just like a$$! :$ o.O

I have the same problem. I've had it since I was 12 and I'm 22 now. I've found them pretty easy to get out with a toothpick. Sometimes they fall out on there own. I asked my dental hygenist and dentist what they were and they had no clue. My mom had them too and she said they didn't go away until she was in her late 30's. I know it's not from Milk like some say. I'm allergic to milk and still get it. I did some research on another website and it makes sense that its food, bacteria and saliva that get traped in the holes. Since it's in a deep, dark, moist place it's perfect for bacteria to grow, there for, it stinks.
Anyway, I heard the best way to get rid of them is to use a tongue scraper every time you brush your teeth and they should slowly go away.

I'm going to try this and let you know.

I try to pull them out by using a method of presure by the back of my tong it is called _ucking them out .I do it everyday and then I use mouth wash or bruch my teeth to get the smell out!! :?
