After a misdiagnosis and some extremely painful days, I thought i'd share this for someone who may come across it like I did !
Basically I started feeling a tenderness around my Tail bone. At first I chalked it down to maybe having sat wrong or bruised it somehow, reading online that bruising of the Tailbone does slow heal.
6-7 weeks passed and it was stable just annoying. However in the 7th week , almost without warning, the pain intensified substantially to where I had to be careful how I sat down and could no longer get up rolling on my tail bone ( like normal people do when lying down to get up ).
I went to the doctors and by the time they had seen me I found myself unable to sit in the same position for more than about 15 minutes without adjusting due to pain increasing.
The doctor noticed a small bump around the same location, in the very top part of the butt crack in the top of the fold where it where it meets the lower back ( Which I had seen as well and thought it was a pimple, squeezing to no result previously ) , but said it looked like nothing.
She diagnosed me with Coccydynia ( injured coccyx in my case likely from sitting too much ((lost my career unexpectedly due to injury and spent 10 months studying correspondence, followed by months of grinding job search)) = loooots of sitting) . I did as she suggested ; Non steroidal creams such as Voltaren ( Im in Australia), anti inflamatory meds as well as Ice packs. I did notice however NOTHING helped in the slightest way.
The next day It was extremely painful to sit without leaning forward ( Putting all kinds of wrong pressure on my back which was previously injured) , Painful to lay down even on my side, and even painful to walk with even the weight of my belt hurting me. The pain had DRASTICALLY increased.
I then hopped out a hot shower that night and had noticed the small bump had grown to about the size of the upper part of my thumb. Pretty shocking discovery yes ? It felt like it was soft and filled with fluid.
Reading the first 2 pages of this thread, I decided to try my hand at squeezing it.
Sure enough , it EXPLODED ! Mix of puss and blood with a bad smell ( Sorry but accuracy is important i feel haha ) instantly burst out. I spent a few minutes squeezing as much as I could get out of it, however it seemed after a few tries nothing came out until eventually only the smallest amount of blood.
It is still there but I believe this ( i hope ) to just be swelling, and while the pain is nowhere near as bad it is still there .
I had no Iodine or anything like that in the house and used Hydrogen Peroxide (Better than nothing ) to attempt to clean the area.
I have another appointment with a doctor tomorrow to see what's next and where I stand.
If the doc says surgery or wants to lance it there and then I will GLADLY do it. I have a high pain tolerance ( injured more muscles than I can count via competitive training ...etc) and I can honestly say that while the pain never had me crying, it DEFINATELY drove me crazy. It was so intense and so sharp and only showed signs of getting worse. Unable to drive a car properly without making strange faces at other drivers, the whole shibang :D
I always suggest seeing a doctor when possible, but I have discovered more than once that you must always take your health personally. If you doubt, get a second opinion. Ive had family members told there are no more medical options for life threatening conditions, to which they found alternatives and are doing well.

I have the same problem but I'm only a 13 year old female and Ive only had it for about a week now i have no idea what it is

what ended up happening? im nervous too and think i have it.
Everybody needs to stop stressing about this I freaked myself out thinking it was cancer and was very upset I was up all night looking at different things when my mum told me to put down teatre cream on it so I did and I can now lay down it feels so much better and it's getting smaller and smaller
I have heard that a turmeric poultice drains the pus, which I intend on doing soon as I have noticed more of a problem, had it for more than a year :(
I have the aame problem for the past two years, no DR. seem to know what to put on it to clear it up, let me know what may have worked for yo,

hi end my tail has puss and it hurt when l pee it all so swell up but has not got boil in side
and smell a bit been washing it 3 to 4 times a day and use baby wipes too but nothing seem

i just went to the doctor today because i have the same problem but she said gave me antibiotic pills and told me to put a hot wet towel on it so the swelling could go down it should supposedly disapear in 2 days or so but if it doesnt go away i might have to get surgery so they can get rid of it... dont let it pass by go to the doctor asap
Hey I know that was posted a while ago, but I thought I had this but after reading everyone else's comments my issues sounds different. My "cyst" flares up when I'm stressed it gets to the size of about a large marble and when I'm not stressed it doesn't hurt and is about the size of a pea. Any ideas of what it could be or if it is what everyone else has? Thanks!
I went to the doctors in uk because this exact reason I got told it's an absess under the skin hot told to keep heat on it e.g heat pads, hot bath. They gave me some antibiotics because it an infection and told me to take pain killers. I'm literally in so much pain with it I can't barely walk hope it hurrys up and goes away
I was given antibiotics and pain meds to help with swelling and was advised to select a surgeon in 1-3 days once swelling was down.
I have the same had it off and on now for 3-6mths haven't been to docs a hot bath helps I assume it is ingrowing hairs . Think I should go see doc.
I have the same thing! Not a political cyst. Did you ever find out what it is and get relief? I'm desperate.
Ice pack the solid kind= I put too much pressure on the tailbone not with the ice and it takes it down almost every time and then to stay offPossible and to continue icing it I also added Motrin as an anti-inflammatory
