From Rob - I have something similar. My bad pain is very low in my bowel and in my lower back as well. It is like bad period pain & starts about 12 hrs after my evening meal (around 7am) also I notice it is FAR worse when i have eaten 'red meat' for dinner the night before. Any help for this would be appreciated by me as well.

My stomach pains have always been quite on/off and are worse at some times compared to others. At the moment, I get instant stomach pains after I eat, up under my ribs, and above my belly button - also with an extremely hard and bloated stomach. Sometimes this pain goes up into my right shoulder - not all the time but only a few... Do you know what this could be/linked to? Doctors told me it was just IBS however I'm not so sure... :-(

I am 26 female. I have problems eating spaghetti sauce or pizza that has it. I get the worst stomach pains. I never have ever had acid reflux or had anything that is like that so I was so confused I had no idea what the hell was wrong with me. I bought medicine and nothing is working. Then after 3 days of pain and nothing working I was researching and It said I could have an ulcer and I was like oh yea nothing new I should of thought of that before, And so I am going to the doctors to have it checked out. I also think I have diabetes.which I am getting checked out for. I don't no why though when I only eat anything that has spaghetti sauce my stomach acts up, I been trying to write down all the foods that make me sick or when my stomach pains occur. So if anyone might no why so far why is it acting up like this when I eat spaghetti? I have completely change my diet, I am doing this juice only diet to where I juice fruits and I don't eat regular food everything is juiced. :-D

Could be gluten intolerance - try cutting out all products that contain wheat gluten for at least two weeks and see how you feel. I felt the same way for almost a year and I ate just plain chicken and rice for two weeks then stopped eating all gluten products (bread, crackers, cookies, cake, some licorice, tortillas, etc.) and I am doing much better. If I ever slip up, I know it and I am in pain and bloated again. Good luck!

I have had the same problem where I have pain after eating. I also had severe bloating and when the pain would kick in it was almost unbearable. The only reason it was tolerable was because when the REALLY bad pain came on, it wouldn't last more than 5 min. a session. It also came in waives like contractions. I would feel it come on and the pain would get worse and worse and worse and then it would subside all of a sudden for a few seconds. I have had a CAT Scan, Vaginal Ultrasound, X-Ray, blood work, and Colonoscopy and everything came back normal too.
When I had my Colonoscopy I had to fast for 24 hours, and then after the surgery I didn't eat for a while so I pretty much didn't eat anything for almost 2 days. After that I kept track of EVERYTHING that I ate. I would right down what I was eating (ex. raspberry yogurt with about 1 table spoon of vanilla granola), I was VERY specific. I would also write how I felt before I ate, while I was eating, after I ate, and then about 45 min after I ate. While doing that I found out what made my pain worse and what didn't cause it at all. In my case, Dairy makes my pain a lot worse. Ever since I have cut back almost completely on dairy, I feel A LOT better.
Everyone is different and so it may be a different food that bothers your stomach. If it happens to be more wheat products then you could have a gluten intolerance and need to eat gluten free. Just pay attention for a couple of weeks on what bothers you. It really helps to do the 24 hour fast though, because if the pain completely stops, like mine did, then I knew it had to do with eating or digesting. If the pain continues, then maybe it's not caused from eating.
I'm not a doctor, but unfortunatly in my expereince and from what I have gathered from other people's expereince, we are on our own with these "mystery" stomach pains. Just really trust your feelings and pay attention to your body and what upsets it. If I find anything else out about myself, I will update you. I hope this helps...

Possible symptoms/diagnosis:
Stomach cramping within 1-5 hours after eating:
Likely to be a gluten intolerance (wheat intolerance), known as Celiac Disease. I say 1-5 hours after eating, as pain usually occurs once the food reaches your small intestine, and that is how long it generally takes.
Stomach pains, with back problems:
Likely a Duodenal or Peptic Ulcer (usually caused by Helicobacter pylori [a form of parasitic bacteria]).
Stomach pains, especially manifesting under the right rib cage, often with shooting pains between and/or on the right shoulder blade:
Likely Gallstones, or a Gall Bladder infection.
Severe stomach/upper abdominal pain, pain in the back and generally feeling and looking unwell
If you feel really unwell as well as having stomach/upper abdominal pain: SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION NOW AS YOU MAY HAVE PANCREATITIS - Which is a serious condition where your pancreas bleeds internally and can cause vital organs to fail. This isn't likely as it only affects a small number of people, but if you experience flu like symptoms with debilitating stomach problems, please don't take the risk.
This list is not exhaustive, by any means, and I am not a doctor. But these seem to be the main complaints people have with stomach pains, and their related diagnosis'.
In the cases of the above I will try to provide a method of self diagnosis so you can relate this feedback to medical professional for more accurate diagnosis/testing:
If Celiac Diseases is your suspected issue; Cut ALL gluten products out of your diet after fasting for 24-hours. This requires CAREFULLY analysing packaging to see if it contains gluten, but nearly all food products must now state under allergy information if it 'may contain gluten'. If the symptoms persist after you are sure all gluten containing food (also mediation and drinks may contain gluten!) has been absent from your body for 2 weeks, this is either not your problem, or your small intestine is too badly damaged to heal. If this is the case it is known as Refractory Celiac Disease, but this is incredibly rare. If you notice an improvement, you should continue to eat a regular diet (one that contains gluten), for around a week, then head to your GP and ask for a blood test for anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTGA) and/or anti-endomysium antibodies (EMA), high levels of these are a tell-tale sign that the small intestinal lining (Villi) are damaged.
If you suspect you have an ulcer as you experience back pain (usually lower back), then you need to consult your GP immediately as ulcers, if left untreated can turn into several nastry gastric diseases (tummy diseases), and in some cases stomach cancer. 90% of stomach ulcers are suspected to be caused by this Helicobacter pylori, and can be treated through a two week course of a tri-antimicrobial regimen (bismuth subsalicylate, tetracycline, and metronidazole), which will kill the infection in 90% of cases. Treatment for the ulcer itself should be left to a doctor, but is usually curable by killing the bacterial (or other) cause of the ulcer/s, and taking medication to heal them. The medication could range from a medicine that contains Bismuth Subsalicylate (like Pepto-Bismol), to a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) or Histamine Receptor Blocker (H2 Blocker), or a combination of these. In extreme cases where the ulcer has perforated the stomach wall, burst a blood vessel, or anything more serious, surgery may be required.
If you suspect your Gall Bladder, you will probably be more aware that this is your problem as you will experience a rather large amount of pain. If you are experiencing some pain, but in no way an 'attack', you can try and apply a small amount of pressure on your Gall Bladder and see if it provides you with sharp pains. This will be caused by the stones inside moving around. If you suspect you have Gallstones, you should seek medical attention immediately as surgery is nearly always required to remove the Gall Bladder before serious complications can occur. The exception to this is a condition called 'Silent Stones', where no symptoms are presented, in which case, you wouldn't be reading this and so wouldn't apply to you. The Doctor will usually perform a Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan, or some other form of X-Ray to identify Gall Bladder issues. Surgery is usually a simple procedure, requiring an overnight stay at hospital and a 3-4 day, at home, resting period, as 95% of the time it just requires keyhole surgery to remove.
Other conditions you should look up include (but are not limited to):
Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER) and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Hiatal Hernia
Hope this helps somebody... :-)
