Ive had pain in the top of my stomach for about a year now. It gets very bad at times. Has been getting worse now. Its not like a sharp pain but instead its like everthing in my stomach, sometimes nothing at all, is being pushed to the top and I just want to throw up to relieve it. It burns and just feels like somthing is scraping the top of my stomach. It gets VERY bad. It started around FEB. 2009, curiously right about two weeks after I had a really bad case of stomach flu or food poisoning. The doctors have already checked me for that bactiera in the stomach (H.P.loyria or whatever)and it was negative. I weighed 151 LB. in JAN 09. SINCE FEB TO RIGHT NOW (DEC 31/09) IVE LOST 14 LB's !!! I weigh 136 now. And Ive always been skiny. IM 5'11". And all this has been getting worse. Just last night I did not sleep until around 6:15am. This has happend before but not the WHOLE night. The whole night I was EXHAUSTED and kept almost nodding off but as soon as I was just about to nodd off, the pressure or pain feels like its going to push throught the top of my stomach and my body react by my heart skippin a bad beat and I jolt back awake. This is nothing new. I felt like this the first two-three months of dealing with this. Ive been to my doctor numerous times, we talk to each other on a first name basis, and Ive just been so discouraged at times by how long its been taking to do ANYTHING. IM ONLY 24 YEARS OLD (MALE) AND JUST RECENTLY MARRIED. I feel like I shouldnt be dealing with this at my age and I REALLY feel like a burden to my wife. Im pretty stong mentally. If I have to deal with this the rest of my life I will, but I think something needs to be diagnosed. Ive had numerous tests, not sure which blood tests though, I just had an endoscopy and colonospy done and they found NOTHING. That absolutly devastated me. I thought for sure they were going to find a nice beautiful fat ol' ulcer sitting on the top of my stomach. Not the case. So now Im supposed to be going in (JAN. 6/10) to eat some eggs that have a radioactive material in it and there going to take pictures of me after I eat it. Then after that test, a couple days later, there going to inject me in the arm with some more radioactive material and take some more pictures. They say with these tests they'll check the fuctions of my stomach and gall blader. I DONT CARE IF ITS STOMACH CANCER THAT I HAVE, I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT I HAVE. It hurts right now as Im typing and I dont even have anything in my stomach. I barely eat 1 maybe two meals a day. I always try to eat healthy and plan but sometimes its hard to do. Last night I ate kinda late at 9:00 pm. I ate a good salad and a bread roll or two. I didnt sleep all night until the last itme I looked at the clock 6:15am. If anybody can help me, it would be UNDESCRIBABLY APPRECIATED. Thanks.
(addition to my post above) -I also have been taking Prilosec for this whole year almost without any major noticeable difference and they now told me to take it twice a day, still no major difference. And now with that Im taking Sulcralufate. I have to go in for a cat scan as well, soon.
Hi Guido, to me this sounds like CLASSIC IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome! Which is VERY hard to test for with technology, it wasn't that long ago they used to thin that IBS was in the mind! But there isn't a test for this, there is just questions and history! So has this been brought up to you in the past?
Yes, sad to say it has been brought to my attention. Just recently. I dont really want to think that its that though because theres not that many happy endings or treatments with this. Ill seriously be devestated if I get diagnosed for that. And I just dont entirely think its that yet. My stomach (at the top where it meets my esophagus) hurts after I eat. More of a burning intense PRESSURE that dosent go away for along time. Then at night it gets worse. BUT my symptoms have gotten double worse since I just had stomach flu 3 weeks ago. It is seriously almost like torture everyday now. Just the pain and intense pressure and then sleepless nights, I seriously dont know how much more of this I can take. Today all Ive eaten is 3 chicken strips and 4 potato wedges. I watched everybody eat breakfast and dinner and desert in front of me. Its EXTREMELY hard to stay positive...
I understand honey! I know you want it to be "something" Actually now you say this description, it sounds like acid reflux with the flap of your stomach leaking and not closing right! I know they have done an endoscope but the xray they will do when you swallow, should really show what is happening! Before you mentioned the very top of your stomach I thought of a Hyatial Hernia! But those are usually found in the intestine, and ONLY show up when you are in FULL on symptoms! Have you tried a totally bland diet = such as brown rice, chicken, no caffeine etc? Another thought, do you have any swollen lymph nodes ANYWHERE on your body?
I'm 21 year old male.
I've been somewhat having the same symptoms as you. I feel bloating sometimes and belch a lot with no relief, but the WORST part is the constant stomach soreness at the top of my stomach (base of esophagus). I was on all those acid reducers and they never did a thing for me. Eventually, my GI doctor told me I must have a functional GI disorder (IBS is a functional GI disorder). Basically it's what they label you as when they can't find anything wrong with you through established tests. Basically, it's a broad term for abnormal function somewhere. They don't know a specific cause. Some suggest its a nerve problem making muscles in the GI tract not work right. Also, some suggest it's hypersensitivity to pain. It's really frustrating because I feel like there should be something tangible they can see is wrong. I've had the scope down my throat, CT scan, Celiacs, gastric emptying, the works. Everything showed up normal. I also had lower abdominal discomfort and constipation too. The only thing(s) that worked for me to some extent were two tricyclic antidepressants: amitripyline and nortriptyline in a low dose. I started on the former and it took the edge off (tenderness was still there) but I could get through the day and eat a little more. I switched to nortriptyline though because amitriptyline was giving me pounding fast heart side effects. Nortriptyline gave me less side effects but I feel that it didn't work as well. I still had up and down days. After telling my GI I had a 20 min heart palpitation session one night, he told me to get off the nortriptyline (even though i was on the lowest dose). I don't seem to handle medications well. But since I've been off of it, I've noticed my stomach become more sensitive again, a lot more indigestion, pain, belching. I really just wish I could go back on the nortriptyline now. It's like someone punched me in the stomach and left a residual bruise. I feel worse after getting up in the morning. I simply cannot eat anything after 8 o'clock at night. I don't even think about drinking alcohol in fear that it'll set me off. I was fine for most of the previous week but it seemed something I ate set me off again. It's horrible.
I cannot come to terms with having some functional disorder. I still keep thinking there's something else wrong, maybe a food intolerance I'm not aware of. Maybe if I was scoped again, something would show up.
Doctors all tell me it's due to anxiety/depression. I think the stomach pain came first. "Functional dyspepsie
If you're still following this, please let me know how things have developed for you and I will do the same. I have a feeling I know what you're going through. Hang in there.

Rob, yea, ride on man. Sounds to me like the same thing I've been going through. I still have the bad pain and bloating and pressure at the top of my stomach. My doctor prescribed me vicodin and I was really sceptical about it at first, due to the obvious reason that it can cause stomach irratation, BUT, it actually has helped me quite a bit. If its really bad at night then I just take one and it really does take the edge off, and I've also noticed it tends to make your musceles, esp the ones that could be causing our pain, relax and it has really been some relief for me. I do, however, hate taking the vicodine because the day after I feel so grogy and tired and just "drugged out".
And I still have horrible days and nights. But vicodine has given SOME relief, not complete or total, but some. Oh, and I appreciate you sharing your similar situation with me. Let me know whats knew with you Or if this helps any. By the way I have another appt with the G.I. doc in a week or so.

I had similar symptoms that happened a couple of times in summer 2007, went away for a year while I tried naturopathic remedies and then started again in July 2008. The second set of attacks began escalating, particularly after I ate anything with fat in it.
Mid September 2008, I had an attack that started around 10PM and lasted all night. I went into Emergency and they sent me for an ultrasound.
Turned out to be my gallbladder. I had it out 8 weeks later laparoscopically and haven't had attacks like that again.
So I'd ask to get a stomach ultrasound.

Actually EXCELLENT Point1 I never thought of that!! Makes perfect sense!
I'm going through the same thing right now ....very very painful ! Mine started a week after I had the flu also but I've been to many hospitals any they can't seem to help me ...have you found any answers yet ? I can't take it anymore !!!
actually I have this...it is the flap at the top of your stomach called duoddenal flap it gets stuck open! The very best remedy is a two inch wide piece of tape (cotton tape used to bandage) accross the bottom ball of your foot must be RIGHT foot comming up an inch or so onto the top of your foot (NOT covering the whole top of foot) This is putting pressure on your stomach meridian and forces the flap closed. Need to wear it day and night for about a week then as needed. The other thing I take is PHOSfood liquid by Standard Process...what a relief!
e-mail me for more info katzleija yahoo I am a practioner that helps other find alturnitives in dealing with these sorts of issues...whatever works without drugs!!
I just went through an entire night AGAIN when I could not lay down with out it getting worse. Just like you explained. I was having some pretty horrible pains in the top part of my stomach. I'm sure it was the "flap" that wasn't closing. It's morning now and I'm fine. But of course was cheated out of a good nights sleep at all! I guess I should not have eaten that hamburger last night (ouch to say the least).
The pepcid AC surely didn't work but only for about 30 minutes or so. I'm happy to say it's gotten better when I ate a fish oil soft gel. I checked out this website where I was able to select my ailment and get a listing of supplements to take to make it better. http://www.bioinnovations.net/products.asp?dept=1147 This is not spam.. but an informational webpage for selecting your problems and getting a list of ways to help yourself. Dr. Becker is a Dallas based Dr. that obviosly knows what he is talking about. Noni Juice should help with pain as it is effective as morphine with out the side effects. I hope everyone here with "our" problems gets better soon. God Bless and Good night.
Hey guido , im 20 female having the same issues for at least 2 years now its like torture doctors coulnt find anything but I had a question do u have emetophobia? Because thats what I have it n I think this caused me to get stomach issues I beleive I have gastric distess.
