We leave tomorrow morning at 6am for our 6 hour flight and I hope he's better by then. Any suggestions? Help please!
My friends own a farm about an hour from me and twice a year they host a music festival. My fiance and I bring like two cases of beer and we finish it over two days; I have never had a single headache, nausea, NOTHING.
There is no rhyme or reason to any of this; it is so confusing to me. I have also felt like this after drinking just after starting my menstrual cycle, which I am told is very stupid. So now I don't do that, but this time i was not even close.
It IS nice to know I'm not the only one, so thanks, everyone, for all of your posts.
I'm 23 and have had this problem since I first started drinking 6 years ago. Pretty much everytime I drink the next day I'll have extreme sickness, but because I can't keep anything down it's just dry retching and bile (which is absolutely horrible to bring up). I also have the shakes, chills, runny nose and sneezing. I now don't drink unless it's a big event but I have to make sure there's nothing planned for the next day because I'm sure I'll spend it in bed and rushing to the toilet. Every now and then I get a 'free' night, where the next day somehow there's no hangover, but they're really rare! I went to see 3 doctors about this and each time I was just told 'don't drink'. It's so frustrating to be told to cut something out of your life that is such a big part of socialising and something I really enjoy.
The only thing I've found that can help is milk thistle tablets, but these need to be taken everyday rather than just the day before drinking, and pro-biotic drinks. Again these need to be taken daily and not just on drinking/hangover days. They don't completely stop the hangovers and the sickness but they do seem to lessen the effects. Hope this helps!
I also have this problem after drinking now for last 10 years am now 29.
I have not only sickness but feel bad for two three days after drinking, which
is shame as I can only make one day out with the boys drinking a week :-/.
I have found however from the chemist sick bands. Sounds strange but put them
on in the morning and you will not be sick. There are call acustraps you strap
them round your wrists, they are meant to be for sea sickness.
Anyhoo if anyone else finds a cure for the other symptoms please post.
I have wasted so many weekends being hung over I considering going T-total.
Well hey at least we won’t become alcoholics J
Hi everyone, I have been recommended this page by a friend who searched for info for me after I complained to her about my 'evil' hangovers. I am very happy to know that I am not a total freak and experiencing this alone. Nobody I know personally has this problem and I was beginning to think I was the only one!
I am 26 years old and I suddenly developed this problem one day at the age of, I think 22. After a crazy new year's eve I spent the whole of the next day in agony, until midnight. I had massive stomach convulsions all day, and they continued even after there was no acid left in my stomach to vomit. I think someone earlier referred to it as 'dry-sick' or something. It was like that. I was cold and violently shaking but felt uncomfortable and suddenly overheated if I covered up with a blanket. I cried because everything hurt, I couldn't walk upright because the stomach convuslions had been so severe that my stomoach muscles caused me agony and I had to walk crouched over. Every time I vomited my head pounded with pain, but this actually gets better once I lie down and relax again (I have never suffered from diarrhoea as part of the symptoms though, as some of you have). Of course at the time this happened I assumed I had over-indulged and given myself alcohol poisoning (it was new years eve, after all), but since that day, every single time I drink more than 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks I have suffered exactly the same, horrible ordeal.
I think that my problem is definitely related to, as many of you are saying, a high amount of stomach acid in some way. The reason I think this is because of the amount of it I tend to vomit up the day after drinking! I can drink two or three alcoholic drinks and feel ok the following day, but any more and I am in my bed/bathroom all day long, usually until 8 or 9pm, but sometimes until midnight, when I suddenly seem to snap out of it. At this point I suddenly feel extremely thirsty and drink lots of water. This will often be the first time I am able to drink water in sometimes 10 hours or more without throwing it up (despite being desperately, desperately thirsty and wanting to drink water and re-hydrate). I then feel very hungry and want to eat, but after a bite or two I am really full and can't face it. I then need another full nights sleep and the following day I am back to normal again.
I admit that I am a binge drinker and I do sometimes drink to excess (as do a lot of people if they are honest!), although now due to my hangovers I have cut down on my consumption a bit. I know that binge drinking is bad for me and has probably made my problem a lot worse, and I am to blame for that. I always thought that I developed my problem due to binge drinking from a young-ish age causing me to have stomach problems, but found it strange that out of so many friends who have been drinking the same amount as me for the same length of time as me, I was the only one suffering so badly.
I always make sure there is nothing I need to do the following day if I decide to go out drinking, as I know I will not be able to do ANYTHING all day. Travelling by any means of transport is completely and utterly out of the question. I have some relief from my syptoms the next day if I eat some kind of carby food before I go to bed to 'soak-up' the alcohol (even 1 small slice of toast seems to make a bit of a difference) and remember to drink some water (the more the better - I try to drink at least a pint because I know I won't be able to keep any down the next day, 2 pints is better though, but sip it, don't gulp it down as this makes you feel dodgy). A friend when I was at uni also recommended drinking a pint of water and, with it, taking 2 Paracetemol or 2 Aspirin BEFORE you go to sleep. He believed it regulated your body temperature which helps your body cope with trying to process the alcohol while you sleep, I'm not sure if there's any ounce of truth in that, but it occassionally does the trick for me (not all the time though).
After reading the advice posted I will try to get my hands on some of the recommended drugs. I hope these will be available from a pharmacy without prescription here in Portugal, I'm sure I can find something. Thank you so much to everyone who has posted their experiences, maybe if it is more talked about docotrs will create a miracle drug for us sufferers, and then we can all go out drinking to celebrate! And still make plans for the next day! Good luck all x
i was sick for about 12 hrs the next day in dec after a night out and then again this july 2012 after only a few drinks but this time was 18 hrs. i havent a clue why this happens but im feeling a little unsocial as i must admit. im fine with 2 glasses of something to socialise with but am scared to drink more as will result in constant vomiting for hrs on end. my stomach concaves and i feel poisoned and weak. lastly i dont know any1 who suffers weirdly like this, its horrible not knowing the answer. all i get is dont drink lol which yeah i can agree with normally dont but its nice sometimes and but ive been fine with a few on some ocassions. by the way folks i dont have a drink problem and am certainly not a heavy drinker either just clarify this lol
I have almost cut drinking out of my life for good because of this, it was making me seriously unwell like I felt like I was dying. My forehead was burning hot all the time and I was vomiting every 15 minutes and couldn't hold down a glass of water for 5 minutes. As well as having the runs all the time and feeling half dead sometimes my whole body would just be drenched in sweat from feeling so sick. I felt extremely ill so I would lie in bed 1 to 2 days with a ice pack on my forehead which semi relieved the sickness feeling I think by bringing down my temp. My stomach muscles were sore for days from vomiting so much and so hard. I honestly believe now that I were to do this more than 5 or 6 times a year it will cause me seriously damage and maybe kill me. I am put off on being drunk its lost it's buzz altogether and no way is it worth feeling like a dying chemo patient for even 1 day just for that drunk feeling for a couple of hours.
