I have been off of depo for almost a month and my side effects still have not gone away. The first two weeks it was nausea and not balancing correctly. This week I have stomach pains from my upper abdomen to my lower and parts of my legs. I've been looking at several different sites because I thought that maybe I had a pelvic infection and it started to freak me out. I have had the same partner for two years. Being on depo for only 6 months I gained 35 pounds, lost sex drive. I would have never gone on depo if I would have known this was going to happen. The withdraw symptoms are awful and I just want to feel normal again!

I just want to say that I HATE Depo!! I have had pregnancy symptoms for the last month and a half with NO SEX involved. My breast hurt, my nipples are sore, I have bloat with almost everything that I eat. I am constantly thirsty, always hungry and have gained more weight with depo than I did with my only pregnancy. Depo is not something that I would recommend to any female. Ladies, I know that BC are needed at some point but stick to condoms because putting these medications in our bodies does more harm than good.

Glad to know I'm not alone.  I had an IUD for the full 5 years due to endometriosis.  Then I got married and I didn't want another one that lasted 5 years (hoping for a child somewhere in between there).  I thought Depo acted like regular bcp but was similar to the IUD in side effects.  Well I lost my job about the time I was due for my second shot and, well, it's the end of June and no second shot.  I have to say since about the end of march, life has been hell.  I had no idea you went through withdrawal and that it was going to make me feel like I was pregnant.  I was never warned about this.

I have a friend that's a nurse and told me it would likely be 6 months before things go back to normal (whatever that is).  Meanwhile, I'm cranky, bloated, depressed, have gained more weight and am generally miserable.  I wish I never would have done this.  Married life has been extra difficult and I don't know if it's really being that hard or if the hormones are making me nuts (perhaps a combination of both).  I just hope things go back to normal soon...not sure how much more I can take........

Hi,

Thought id reply to your post as you only posted 30 mins ago and going through what you are going through. I was on for 9 yrs for endo now going through hell every day. Its so unbelievable docs dont warn of these withdrawal before you go on it. It was so good to me for years and now this!! I have read following a raw diet, drinking alot of water and exercising when you can will help. Docs have given me anti depressants but reluctant to take them yet, has anyone else taken them during this withdrawal phase? Hope your all okay. We can get through this!! x P.s let me know how you get on with the pill

Hello everyone, i knw this is a very old post, but i wanted to share what im goin thru, ive been on the depo for almost 6 months, my last shot will be on the 24th of aug. and im having symptoms almost everyday, ive been on depo since march of 012, the first 2 months was a blast, but when it came around the time to get my second shot which i had in may i had very bad symptoms, nervousness, anxiety attack then i got my second shot in may and in end of June i got really bad side effects again  headaches, dizziness nervousness anxiety attack and acne.  Thats like the worst thing ever, i have a six month old and the pregnancy wasn't planned and i thought goin on depo would make my life easier cause i knw i will never remember to take the pill, the docs fail to mention all those side effects that you get, now im soo moody and depressed and my poor husband has to deal with my mood swings. all i can say is depo is not for everyone, im not gonna take any more bc cause pills in general gives side effect cause its man made, i knw plp that's on depo and it works for them. so just be care full what you put in your body's. i will keep you updated on how my symptoms get through out the months...ohh cant wait!! -sighs-

Hello everyone. I have not taken depo for extreme long term, but I have taken it since I met my husband roughly 2 years ago. He complained about condoms, and I caved. I'm going to get really detailed, so I apologize in advance.

My symptoms since starting depo were nausea, headaches, increased sensitivity to allergens, Little to no sex drive, not being able to naturally lubricate myself during intercourse, no period what so ever, extreme fatigue, etc.

Ever since I stopped taking it, I am extremely hungry/thirsty, I wear contacts and sometimes I forget to take them out at night. When I wake up in the morning my eyes are all crusty. I never had this before depo. I sneeze alot more often, and my throat is not quite sore, but it tickles ever so slightly. I am bloated, to the point where I really thought I was preggers. I took two tests, two weeks from each other. both came out negative. My breasts, they don't seem like they are changing size, but I noticed that my left breast is very veiny compared to the right one. It freaked me out a bit. I am still having problems during intercourse with my body not producing enough lubrication. Lately, intercourse has been painful for me, for whatever reason. I'm still waiting it out, hoping for a period.

For those girls who are thinking about taking it, it's an absurd form of birth control. it takes away your sex drive and makes your vagina dry. And if you force to have sex anyways, it can be painful, even with proper lube. It takes a long time to go back to normal. I'd recommend taking a bc pill for a month, and then stopping it. When I was a teenager this worked for me to get my periods jump started again, but. the downside was, due to stress I had not had a monthly cycle in over a year, so when my cycle regulated itself overnight, it was like puberty all over again! My periods were painful, PMS like crazy.. Before this incident I never had cramps or pms. What I think will happen is that, you will need a jump start way to get your hormones balanced. if you don't, they might take way too long to do it on their own, or it might never happen. After your periods start again, it will most likely feel like puberty. painful.

I express my apologies, to all of you depo sufferers out there. If only we could stop worrying about bc, and be more responsible about intercourse as a collective. I urge you to take care of your bodies ladies. I studied anatomy over the summer, and alot of things came to light for me. Your body can do miraculous things, but when you introduce a man made substance into it, like a hormone/chemical, it can offset alot more than just your sex hormones. Be mindful, and remember this, if you take care of your body, your body will take care of you.
