Like I have said before look up the Trans Geminal nerve on google, that is what appears to be the nerve fireing off, and scaring the xxxx out of most of us. I have had two MRI's of the head and talking a couple times with a neurologist, they find NOTHING. They say if it stays around too long and too frequent then they dont want to, but they can put you on seizure medicine. My biggest problem is I have been dealing with this since 1976, once a day, every third day, once a week, sleeping or stressed it never really matters, but the worse part is it always leaves me thinking with some anxiety for a few minutes, "is this the big one" because if it last for than just a couple seconds if even that, I couldnt tell you what I would do to terminate the pain.
Delighted to hear nothing showed up and that it's nothing serious , u write the exact same things I'm thinking ! Everytime I get a dart in my head I think " oh god is this gonna make me collapse " is this d big one! Everyone keeps telling me oh ur just stressed! Which drives me mad as it don't matter if I'm totally relaxed or really stressed it just comes on randomly ! Hopefully it will b ok , I'm gonna google that now , thank you, take care .
Sure is amazing that after 16 pages of post there is no defined answer to what we are all suffering. I came back to this page today after I just google the type of head pain to see if there was a different site, guess not. Feeling for or five of these lately and back on the internet to find out why. All I seem to be doing lately is drinking more Propel Water, but how could that have anything to do with anything. Sure wish someone had a small answer to this. It SUCKS and ruins my whole day when a flurry of these jolts come in and MRI's etc. say nothing is wrong.
I also was suffering from frequent pains in my head and someone told me to look into "aspartame" and "phenylalanine" as i was regularly using sweeteners in tea and drinking diet cola and those chemicals are present, so i googled it and was quite suprised at what i read! Just a thought ;-)
I just read the many posts, and I must strongly suggest you consult a rheumatoligst for an auto-immune issue, Cerebral Vasulitis. Sharp sudden head pain that can knock you over. Sinus type headaches as well. Gum/Jaw pain. Weakness. Fatigue. Consider REMICADE for treatment. Best of luck.

Oddly enough coincidence or not, I have cut out and tried to pay attention to "aspartame" and "phenylalanine" the artificial sweeteners and it seems that my head pains have subsided somewhat, from alot to very little, for quite a few weeks now. A couple a week has been the norm for me since an accident in the 70's whereas I probably received some head trauma.
In addition to this info I am providing, the few times I now get them appears to relate directly to "stress situations". I had somebody cut me off in parking lot the other day, at the same time was dealing with a cell call that was aggravating, for a split second I received two jolts as we have all mentioned for the most part, pulled over my car for a couple minutes and relaxed. So, quite possibly stress as others have mentioned can also play a large role in this.
Someone above mentioned "cerebral Vasulitis" I looked up the symptoms and only a couple of them seem to apply to me, maybe only about 20% so feel I can rule that out anyway.
I went to a neurologist for this shooting pain and was given the diagnosis of "sharp shooting pain". He prescribed neurontin for the minor seizures of a cranial nerve. All has been well since I started the neurontin until today. I was having pain in my left ear from this, now I am experiencing a harsh infrequent tingling behind a tooth. I'm wondering if this is headed toward trigeminal neuralgia. I will be following up with my neurologist tomorrow.
Do you still have this pain? I have the exact same thing as what you explained and have no idea what it is. It's SO PAINFUL when it happens.
I am having sharp pains on the left side of my head. It has been going on for 5 days now. Nothing seems to take the pain away except going to sleep. It started with a sore throst and headache on top of my head. Then it went to an earache and pain in the left side of the head. Then it went to the left side of the head only. Today I am going to the doctor as I can not stand it anymore. Last night it was above my eyes. I seem to think that it's sinus related but never had it like this before. I guess I will soon find out.
did you ever get a diagnose for this?cause thats what im going thru i have bad anxiety attacks since nov2011 and they seem to get worse and worse not into taking zanex daily makes me tired and work 2 jobs now i get the pains in my eyes too feel so miserable all the time and get the sweats w/attacks heart races like mad im 44 female was always happy and outgoing b4 this ??
