I use orajel. mouth sore medicine for canker and cold sores on my lips when ever my lip swells for no reason,it works for me, also when ever my feet, arms, legs fingers, neck, where ever. I scratch with an old type hair brush that has a lot of very thin brittles, not the ones with tiny balls on the tip. that helps me get rid of the itch.hope this helps someone.

I am 41. I had this affliction for many years In my 20' s. The same symptoms and reactions you are all describing. I got very good at knowing when it was coming on due to the numbness & itching and would have to excuse myself from work the swelling was so bad. I went to many doctors, tried many remedies. None worked. Prior to coming down with it, I had travelled to some foreign countries so I began to assume I picked something up from travel that my body did not know how to get rid of. The swelling is so frustrating & scary.... I wish I could tell you what causes it. What I do know is I was told it was stress related too. At the time I worked in an office, HR dept for a pharmaceutical co... I didn't feel stressed so I thought that diagnosis was BS. I eventually left that job & the relationship I was in. The symptoms gradually went away. My life is Way stressful now, long hours running a business, 3 kids...2 in diapers. But I have never had an episode. So maybe its not the stress in life that's causing the outbreaks but some internal reaction to what is actually in it. Something I changed made the difference. And I can tell you it was not changing laundry soaps, what I was eating etc.... I tried all of that with no results. I recently met someone who has the same problem. She said she's had it since she was a kid. Id never told anyone about this issue because you start to feel like your going crazy. So when she told me I immediaty shared my story. So if she's had it since she was a kid & she's 27 now?? Only thing in common is we both have asthma. Not sure if that helps.

I'm no expert, but you all might want to rule out foods that aren't organic for a while. Some corn (perhaps all of it) has been genetically modified to explode the insides of insect pests once ingested by means of incorporating the chemical herbicide, Round-Up, into the corn DNA. Is it safe for us? Many are having physical reactions from it, even from the meat of animals that consumed it. Soy can be a huge problem for many individuals especially depending on what form it is in such as soy protein isolate. This is off the top of my head so do your own research. Dr. Oz is a great online resource for information. Be well!

I had the same issue (swollen wrist, bottoms of feet and lip) for years and finally found out I was allergic to Aspirin, NSAIDS and Sulfa medications.  I've also had the same reaction when I've taken diuretics, Pepto-bismol, and Imodium   I only take Tylenol and Tylenol products for over-the-counter pain medications and cold remedies.  I hope you figured out what was causing it.

I'm not sure if anyone will ever see this but I think I may really be on to something. One of the most important factors regarding this has to do with the randomness of the people affected. Although our  age/class varies from person to person with this problem, I think the one thing that unites all of us is a lack of respect for our body. I seem to swell up more during times of stress and no physical activity. Humans are supposed to have rigiours physical activity at least once a day, I wonder how often everyone does that's replied to this thread? It really seems to me that this could be the problem, everyone please reply and let me know your schedules with staying in shape, as this clearly has some connection with your physical body and stress

I was diagnosed with the same allergy! I cannot take any of the drugs in the NSAIDs family or I have some sort of outbreak. However I noticed that I still have lots of flare ups quite routinely. No food in particular has set off any triggers, however I know for sure I am allergic to weed pollen. I think the poster below me has a brought up a really key point. I'm currently doing research on genetically modified organism (GMOs) for a presentation I have coming up, and the material is alarming. GMO crops which were introduced to the food chain in the late 1990s have adverse affects to the immune systems of the animals it was tested on. I think there is (and it's been proven as well), a correlation between the increase in immunological deficiencies (allergies, asthma, and inflammation) and the prevalence of GMOs in the marketplace. I'm only 24 and was super sad to find out that GMO corn has been legally allowed in Canada (Ontario) since 1992, before I could even form a stance on whether to ingest it or not. What's done is done, basically what i'm trying to do is avoid any possible thing with GMOs in it, and pray that I don't have any flare ups. Godspeed and good luck to all, it's nice knowing I'm not alone.

I have been having swelling episodes for the past 11 years. It started with my lips, then moved to my tongue (always one side), inside of my mouth (again, one side) and then it eventually moved to the bottoms of my feet and then my eyelids. This past week it has been my wrist and hand. I have told several doctors and they just scratch their heads. I started taking an daily allergy pill (just an O.T.C. one) and it seems to help some. Also, it usually takes 2 days for the swellings to go away. The hands take just a few hours though. I have had a blood test taken and everything came back normal. Well, something is wrong if these swelling still occur after all these years!! Hopefully, SOMEONE can diagnose us.

I have had swelling in my joints (much like synovitis) for about 7 years. It started in my fingers. Swelling in my fourth and fifth fingers. Now I get swelling in fingers, wrist, back of hands, bottom of feet. It does not itch. It is not warm. It only aches. It lasts 24 hrs-48 hrs. Sleep, stress, alcohol, etc seem to negatively impact it. Cortisone is the only thing that had limited symptoms. It mostly effects my hands. The other areas including feet are usually 1 in 15 flare ups. Flares can be separated by a month or even two. Down to a few days. I've seen many doctors from arthritis to hand to nueroogists. Any suggestions?

It's hives....another term for it is angioedema. I've had my cheek and chin tip swell to three times their normal size and be gone 24 hours later... sometimes less time. It can also occur around your windpipe which can swell to the point of cutting off your air supply. When that happens the only remedy is a epipen and it better happen quick. My allergy turned out to be NSAIDS. This is a real pain because I was using them to control osteoarthritis pain. So now I'm left with codeine and prednisone.
