I had my surgery 15 days ago. Still a lot of pain. Just not to where I want to pass out.

Still major major external swelling that hurts just as bad as the inside. My dr. Said I can use preperation h suppositories again. Nothing is helping with the external swelling.

I don't know what hurts worse, inside where it is raw. Or external where it is so swollen and hurts at the slightest touch.

Hi
I am 20 days post open haemhorroidectomy surgery. I had Grade IV prolapsed internal and external piles so many they couldn't remove all as could be risk of stenosis - had 3 incisions . Pain unbearable up to day 14 (worse days 5 to 12). Sobbing, shaking and almost passing out for hours after each BM. Much improved now but still in pain though taking less pain killers because of constipation for which I take Movicol every day. The worst pain is from the hard lumps ( skin bridge?) around the incisions. I am so hoping that this will eventually heal and go as I may as well not bothered having this surgery!

Forgot to add also have a feeling of pressure in my rectum especially when walking around which makes walking difficult. That's my post above 'Guest' - as just registered

I am in my third month since surgery and is still bleeding and in pain. Since yours was done over a year ago, how are you doing now. I'm also still weak. I'm so worried. I can hardly pass stool. It's horrifying. Are you fine now and how long did your recovery took?

If you are still around, I'd love to hear how you are now, after a year.

I just had the surgery (THD, not a hemorroidectomy, though I did have that done 9 years ago) 2 weeks ago and I now have two big lumps that look worse than the actual hemorrhoids did, and people have posted that it's normal and they should shrink. But they're so huge and offensive I can't even imagine that being possible.

Also the ITCHING. The pain of the first 10 days was way worse but the itching is unbearable in a different way. It feels like poison ivy that I can't scratch and it keeps me up at night!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I hope you had a great recovery in the end (pardon the pun)!

Thank you for sharing your experience honestly and for making me laugh. Not that it's funny that you went through that, but your sense of humor is storytelling style is great.
I am on day 15 and came here because not only am I ITCHING like crazy and going mad as a result, I definitely have baboon ass, which looks worse than the original hemorrhoids did.
I have been reading, "Don't worry, it'll go away", but I have no idea how they could possibly disappear. I mean, they're huge. Where would they even go?

I am going through this right now!! It's horrible.

Did you have the ass flaps removed? How did that go?

My wife just had a Hemroidectomy (what a word) and is going through problems as described by several (if not all) of those who wrote to this page.
I recommend and am throughly pleased with the time and effort by the many people who wrote messages to the affected.
As i said my wife had the operation last Monday and it is now Saturday. She has had a few BM's but her main concern is Urenating.
Thank you for your messages. All who spend time addressing and reporting on their experiences. They definitely help others.
By the way we are fortunate in having a bath tub with power jets. Utilizing this together with Epsom Salts seemed to help

I had skin tag and hemorrhoidectomy last week. It has been painful. I did have the swelling that seemed like hemorrhoid. It could not be pushed back and seemed to block the passage. My doctor didn't give me anything for that swelling so I did some research and tried raddish juice. It doesn't taste that pleasant but it did help the swelling to gradually subside.

If anyone want to try, you can ground raddish root or use juice maker. Drink half a glass twice daily. This, in combination with warm sitz bath has made everything so much better.

And be sure to take your laxative, and fiber. I use lactulose in combination with fibogel.

Hope everyone gets better very soon.

Thank you for the tips and encouragement. I'm 3 days post op and have never experienced anything even close to the pain I'm having. Last night I thought I was going to die. Tried everything from sitz bath, warm tub soaks, lidocaine ointment, hydrocodone tablets, ice packs, and ibuprofen 800 mg. I'm miserable and exhausted but when I try to sleep, the pain wakes me and I'm in tears. Full of regrets about having this procedure. Never ever again will I subject myself to such suffering. Terrible.

Curious to know how your healing has progressed. I'm 3 days post op and the pain is absolutely unbearable. There's not much relief with the pain killers prescribed and I'm very depressed at this point. Reading horror stories about others who are still bleeding and in pain for months after this procedure. I'm out of my mind thinking I shouldn't have put myself through this....

I'm reading these posts and can totally relate to each and every person on here who's gone through this nightmare. I'm on day 3 post-op and the pain is 50 times worse than childbirth to me. I'm miserable, exhausted and full of anxiety after having my first b.m.this morning. The pain was so excruciating that I screamed and almost passed out. This is nothing to joke about. I thought I would die. I'm so so sorry I decided to have this horrible procedure and should've just lived with the hemorrhoid flare ups because they're nothing compared to this horrible nightmare I'm living.

Hi there! It's my sixth week too, and I'm glad I read your post. I'm still feeling miserable and I'm trying to stay encouraged. The same thing happens to me. I have no pain, until I have a bowel movement. Then, it hurts for about 5 , 6 or more hours. I still have the pile...It's going down, but I expected it to be gone by now. I'm trying to manage the pain with 2 or 3 ibuprofen(as prescribed by the nurse) and sittz baths, as I have no bathtubs in this house we just bought. i had to go to a hotel with my husband the first nights just because of that. The baths are very soothing and therapeutic for me and help ease the pain (at least when I'm soaking in the water) and relax me. Sometimes I think, something went wrong with my surgery and I will never be well again. I do see the good outcomes of the surgery already, as stool now passes freely and even to pass gas is easier. I did not realize how compromised my anus was. The nurse gave me a sample of an ointment called RectiCare, but it does not help with the pain because it's internal. Can you or anybody tell me how long it took for you to get over pain? I have to back to work. I'm healthy and thought it would take me 2 weeks maximum to get better. Looking forward to riding my bike, swimming and exercising. Blessings, Samira.

I'm 24, female. And had the surgery done 5 days ago. I had all three internal hem's removed, and a number of external. Originally, the doc was only going to remove 2/3 because taking all 3 makes the anus smaller, which is harder for him to remove and for me to recover. However, he did decide to take all 3 once he "got in there." Im glad he did, I don't want to have to do this again, if I can help it.

Day 5 post-op: originally I was taking pain meds (oxy) every 4 hours on the dot. By day 2 I was able to space them 5 hours. And yesterday I only needed two oxy's and the rest I did with Tylenol. This morning I woke up thinking I had a grasp on the pain (only took 1 pain med at midnight and Tylenol at 5am to sleep!). But first thing this morning I had my first "real" BM. It's the most pain I've been in since the surgery.

For me, coming home from surgery (out-patient), wasn't bad. I was still on anesthetic and the pain med cocktail from the IV. Day 2 was awful. Couldn't stand without getting hot, nauseous, and light headed (anesthesia), pain was more than I expected and couldn't get comfortable. BUT it did subside a little every day. Up until the BM, I thought today would be a just-Tylenol day.

Originally I was told "10-14 days until you can go back to work" and a nurse even told me "oh 5 days if you don't do any lifting or heavy work." After reading posts (dumb of me), I realize that I might be "back at work" but that doesn't mean 100%. But I'm optimistic!

To those that write "I would never do it again," I just said this is the most pain yet and I'd still do it again. 24, massive hemorrhoids, it started to affect my daily routine and life- can't tell you how many pants I've ruined bleeding through, or how many events I skipped/left early scared to have a flare up, or how many jackets I've tied around my waist to cover it up. Pain matched embarrassment. This time is going to pass anyways, I'd rather spend months healing than still living with it I 6 months.
