Also, may I know how long did you take antibiotics for after operation? My doctor prescribed one week worth of Flagyl for me. I'm thinking if I need longer duration of antibiotics just to cover for any infections.
NO worries, I was in nearly exactly your situation 5 months ago. I felt that dread too. Relax as best you can and let yourself heal (god I sound like my wife!!!)
I think the worst thing the doctors do with this surgery is UNDERSELL the pain and recovery time and complications (like the swelling). I saw these things complained about over and over as I read this thread as I recovered.

I was given no antibiotics....I do not know why. My surgery site was not left open and the roids were internal.
(that another thing wrong with this damn surgery...reading this thread it seems doctors have very little standard operating procedure for this surgery. What to tell people, how to prep, how to recover.)
Post-op day 20. What a roller-coaster ride. Lets start with the Good: I'm not in constant extreme pain and i'm off the Hydrocodone for five days now (keeping it on hand just in case). Saw Doc on a day ago and said things progressing normally. I've lost 12 lbs since procedure (normal weight about 177 lbs for this 47 year old Dad). Taking LaxaClear twice a day to soften stool. Walked around the block 4 different times since surgery, scared to go farther and be away from a bathroom. Sitz baths three times a day helps. Applying Calmoseptine to outer area to control itching, what a God send. Sleeping little better.
Now the Ugly: Valium three times a day to control sphincter spasms, makes me drowsy but helps. Those dang spasms feel as is I'm being stabbed from inside out. Still wearing the hospital underwear I was given because I ooze and seep blood. I have has a few instances of blood clot explosions in the toilet and one that i missed completely (Doc said normal). Haven't been in jeans or my regular boxer briefs since surgery, as funny as that sounds. BMs are soft, however being careful not to over do it with softeners and prune juice, yep made a mess that way too. Was hoping to go back to work next week but Doctor has put the nix on that, wont return until last week of month with half days at my discretion.
The Other: Doctor said yesterday that he unfortunately cannot put into words or describe the pain of recovery and was genuinely apologetic. I had four very large roids removed. The toll this has taken on those who love me my wife and teenage daughters has been tremendous. Not only do i feel broken and helpless, they feel overwhelmed and helpless worse because they can't fix it or stop the pain and suffering. Trusting in God is all we can do as a family. I will get better and back to myself within His time-frame. We've had outpouring of help from friends bringing over dinners and such just so my wife doesn't have to cook is a great help. Very humbling. Do I regret having this procedure done? NO!!! What I was going through before it was only getting worse. So I take this day to day, that's all I can do. I will keep you other "Roid" friends in my prayers. It WILL get better.

Hallo please i have the same problem now swelling looks like hemorrhoid ..it dissapear with time? Please tell me
are there any bumps that come out during the pup?
sometimes bloody...
sometimes bloody...
Going into week 4. Small external bumps but not painful. Still bleeding from open wound. Started wearing adult diapers for the seepage. BMs not as painful as long as I’m on stool softener or prune juice.
When did you stop worrying about BM? I am 4 days in and omg I rather have my back done again than this. The pain during/after give me the sweats and the light head and the trembles... I don’t even want to go anymore
Hi, you had internal haemorrhoids removed? Or external? Does your bumps become smaller over time?
Hi.... I saw doctor today and unfortunately I was told by my doctor that my "swellings" on the external are skin tags as a result of the surgery and how the wound heal.. and that they will be there forever unless I go for another surgery to remove it. I really wish doctor have informed me of this before the op and I would most probably opt to live with haemorrhoids instead than having these annoying "tags" hanging... I feel like all my pain and sufferings didnt worth the while at all..and now I have to live with skin tags forever.. I don't trust the doctor anymore and would not want to do anymore procedure to my backside again.
Glad that urs do shrink but unfortunately mine are skin tags. :(
And my advice to others, unless it is stage 4 and life threatening, if not try to avoid this surgery by all means :)

I am also day 9 post op had three large internal raids removed. I also had large swollen bumps on outside after surgery for the first 7-8 days. These have since reduced in size and pain level. I believe they were filled with pus/fluid and slowly drained on their own.
Just want to say how helpful this forum has been and I can relate to almost every single post in regards to the pain, fear, helplessness, and trauma of this experience. Thanks to everyone for sharing their story.
My two cents are that there is little you can do in the first week other than keep up on pain meds, plenty of fluids, ice and or heating pads on your ass after bm and shower to wash off then sit in bath after bm. Even on day 9 after a loose bm I was literally in tears on the bathroom floor due to spasms and extreme pain from the inside near my tailbone area. Felt like so,some was twisting a knife. Took a full oxcodone tab and sat next n the bath and it subsided. But t was unexpected at this stage of the game. This is a rough road but ultimately I think worth it. The roids only get worse n their own and should be dealt with sooner than later (if doctor agrees).
A note on pain meds, my doc only prescribed 20 Vicodin initially which he refilled then I needed to beg to get 30 more which they said is all I will receive, period. After the first few days I began breaking them in half and taking 1/2 a pill every 3 hours. I found this much more effective than 1 pill every six hours as directed. This really helped me stretch my supply and manage my pain. Where I live in the northeast they are ververy strict with pain meds but this surgery requires quite a large supply to stay comfortable and sane. Be an advocate for yourself of have someone help you. This is one area you do not need to be coming up short as it is crucial to get trough this difficult recovery.
Best of luck to all and hang in there!

Hello everyone I had my surgery 8 days ago and I must say it got a lot better. Day 1 was ok as I was still in hospital and was heavily medicated. I was given Norco and still softeners which didn’t seem to help for Day 2-6 which I was in excruciating pain and I couldn’t sleep through the night.my BM were on day 3 & 5 and were terrible. I cried for 2 hours at one point. I cried the first 6 days. On Day 7 I did a 180 and felt 50% better. I started putting on a muscle relaxing lotion on and it helped tremendously! Also, there was no more pain throughout the day unless I had a BM which then caused pain for no more than 30 min after. I have yet to sit and drive I am still at home recovering and am due back to surgeon in a week. This was the worst pain I’ve ever gone through! Btw the swelling went down after day 7 and maybe that is why my pain has gone down and also why after a BM I still have pain. I notice the pain comes from where they cut which is normal I guess. I can now eat a meal which I was scared of eating before. The only thing is now I have BM just come like they’re just pressure and then boom I have to be in bathroom. Before the surgery they were once a day and I could be somewhere and hold it until I got home not anymore. I am still doing sitz baths and showers after BM which makes me scared to go anywhere still. So at home I’ll be until I know I can control my BM. It gets better with time! Take pain pills as needed because they do constipate. Take stool softeners. Stay home and recover. Do not carry anything heavy just relax. Good luck everyone
I had surgery 12 days ago. Internal and external Hemorroid removed. The first day when I got discharge from the hospital I was on so much medication so I didn’t feel that much pain. But wow after couple hours I thought I am going to die. I took painkillers what doctor prescribe me so it’s got better through the night. Beside me being in so much pain I couldn’t go urinate. Try hot shower or take AZO peels you can get at any pharmacy. I don’t know what I would do without them they relaxing everything there. Day 2 OMG don’t even know what to say. Take all your pain medication every 3-4 hours take MIRA lAX stool softener morning and night, drink a lots of water, try not to eat anything heavy because you will regret later on. Chicken soup the best. And try to sleep. Don’t walk , don’t do anything ask your family members to help you or friends for a week at list first 5 days. When you feel going to the bathroom prepare your hot tab ready. Stay as long as you need till you feel better. My first 5 days I was at hot top for 10 times a day it was helping me so much. Even night time try to take hot tops at list 1-2 times. Apply cream after each time doctor prescribe you. Plus I was using RECTICARE you can get at any pharmacy helped me a lot wow what a relief after applying this cream, helps with pain, itching, burning. sometime apply wipes before the cream it’s cooling the area or put ice for first 3 days. I use the TUCKS pads too.(constantly) you have to do this every day for 5 days -7 days. After 7th day I start feeling a little bit better. But after each BM oh so much pain still don’t have the solution taking hot top after trying to lay down after words applying all my wipes and creams. I feel the same like everybody else not leaving the house. It’s impossible for me!
I am having a similar experience, I had internal hems and external skin tags from childbirth. I wish I knew a little bit more about the procedures /ways of removal or better yet recovery times& PAIN. I heard from a family member that they went in the next day they were fine and have been since. So, I went into the surgeon confidently like yes! I want this! I want to be hem free I don't want any skin tags I want a nice situation down there.
Well it has been 9 days since my surgery my area down there looks way worse then when I started. The nurses tell me that it's only swelling and it will go down once I recover and if there's any skin tags they can do basically what my relative had done in the office.... Why don't we start there and if I had more issues, then go to Outpatient surgery? And why is it an outpatient surgery when there so many issues? I have been reading about and the pain & it is immense!! I've had 3 surgeries in my life, birthed to 2 children & a horrifying car accident, and yet nothing compares to the pain that I have had with this surgery.
Discharge is gross I clean the area constantly but it's your body's way of trying to heal. This diet sucks! I did hear out the diet regimen before surgery but I was thinking that's probably preventative from another hemorrhoid not actually necessary to be able to relieve yourself. I have become a vegan unwillingly. Anything from the deli, bakery or dairy section AND caffine (alchohol of course didn't try that) causes constipation which is now = pooping out a hot barbwire fence.
I have had issues with pushing because my body naturally is in so much pain that it wants to get rid of the source. I try to relax as much as I can I put a stool in front my toilet to lay my head down on and my upper body I take deep breaths try to tell myself good things and to relax yet Sometimes I just get a pain button pushed and my body goes into natural convulsions trying to get rid of the pain, and I cannot stop the pushing. Nurse said that the pushing could be part of the problem.

Omg. I am 3 days in. I had no idea what i was getting myself into... I feel exactly like you. Seems like my hemms were smaller than wats sticking out of me now.. I was completely embarrassed b4 wit hems but this smell, protruding places, & leakage has me thru the roof... I remember waking from surgery in the most awful pain just crying n rocking in a hard bottom chair... They had 2 give me more meds thru iv. My husband said when they brought him back i looked like i had cried myself to sleep.. The pills they gave me r doin no good.. I am able to pass gas slowly n the right position. Im afraid to poop. My legs throb n have weird feeling with certain pains. My bum throbs, burns, and feels like something alive is tryna rip itself out... Sometimes i can rock on belly n pain will kinda ease. I dnt hav urge to pee is that normal? I noticed i get alot of pressure & pain but i go sit on toilet and feel nothing. I kno im early on this journey & i have to get another after this heals... I dont think ill make it.
