Just replying to my own post (16 March 2013) to inform readers that my diagnosis from the doctor was, indeed Reactive Arthritis ("Reiter's Syndrome") but more commonly referred to these days as Reactive Arthritis. I have been put on anti-inflammatory drugs which make me feel nauseous. I have purchased a book called "Conquering Arthritis" by Barbara Allen who developed Reactive Arthritis herself and lived with the pain for many many years and she wrote a book about her experiences and beliefs to do with the foods we eat having a direct impact on reactive arthritis. I figured it is worth a go, now that I've got this thing - for an active person to become in-active - I'll do anything I can to fast forward treatment and get me mobile again. Hope anyone else out there with similar symptoms has more information now. But first, go see your doctor, they will put you through blood tests, x-rays and a visit to a Rheumatologist (basically which rules out things like gout, Lupus and more erosive forms of arthritis). Reactive arthritis, whilst very painful in the joints and for me, in my knee, prevents me from walking - apparently, long term, it is a non-erosive form of arthritis. So one of the better forms of arthritis (if there are any?) to get as opposed to some of the others.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SEVER PAIN AND SWOLLEN KNEE OVER THE PAST 2MTHS. THERE HAS BEEN NO REASON, TRAUMAM OR ANY REASON FOR THIS RIGHT KNEE TO HAVE BEEN ACTING THIS WAY. I believe that methotrexate is a radioactive and harmful drug for a human liver....
I had the swollen knee, turns out it was a symptom of Lyme disease.
I have periodic knee swelling since I was 18 (now 34) about one week of swelling and one week normal, it sometimes disappeared for months and years but then comes back. Recently I tried drinking apple cider vinegar diluted in water and it really works. After a while the problem was completely gone, however once I stopped taking it it came back much worse than ever. I couldn't walk. I am back to vinegar now before I figure out what to do about this.
Hello,
For the past six weeks, I have had swelling in my left ankle, and constant pain, as though being kicked by steel toecaps. In addition, my right knee has become very painful also, and to cap it all, my left eye, is massively bloodshot, from exactly the same time period. I have been to the hospital twice, x-rayed, eye checked, they can see nothing, and prescribed nothing, eye is only now, recovering to normal, ankle still agony. Amost identical symptons to above letter.
I have egsactly the same problem! I'm only 24! It's soo depressing and is controlling my life, I'm still working but every morning is soo hard to get on my feet and I'm struggling along, I know this is a old post but did you have any luck finding out the problem? Any help or ideas would be much appreciated
I suggest you have appointment with rheumatologist. Your symptoms are similar to mine. I have fibromyalgia which is inflammation of connective tissue. It feels like the joint, but its actually ligaments, etc that support the bones in the joint. Each muscle has facia on the outside. The facia becomes stiff and sore. I find relief in deep tissue massage. Good luck.
the swelling, known as peripheral edema, is caused by the accumulation of fluid in these areas: foot, leg and ankle. you might want to elevate your legs whenever you lie down.
is there any supplement that we can take to reduce the risk for this?
