I get all you describe. I have managed to put it down to three things after much testing/food illimination etc. I get a distended stomach when I am tired at night (after night out on booze), premenstrual or stressed! Usually I am suffering one of these about 4 times a week and just have got used to it. I have two wardbrobes - one for pregnant belly and one for slim me. I hate it but there is nothing I have found that works. Have taken Oxypowder for 3 years but eventhough I was regular with bowel movements doesn't stop the swelling so definitely not linked to constipation. I also am very flactuant - nice!!
Hope this helps.

I had the same thing and it turned out I had developed Lactose Intolerance. My stomach would swell till it looked like I was five months pregnant. Cut out milk and that stopped.

I had these same issues and put up with it until one day (after sex) I started getting cramps that progressively got worse. I thought it was just gas but eventually had to go to the ER where 6 hours later they finally did a CT Scan and saw that there was a "mass". I had an ovarian cyst and they had to do surgery immediately to remove it. After the surgery the doctor told me that when they were in there they removed not only the cyst but over a gallon of blood that had been bleeding internally into my stomach caused by the cyst bursting and rupturing a vein.

I would suggest getting checked out asap, my doctor said if I would have waited i would have been dead he next day. I was also severely anemic from all the blood loss so I now need to take iron to get my level back up. I waited so long because i did not have insurance, stupid yes, but it makes me wonder how many people do the same thing with worse results??

I have been having the same problems you all have described for 1 1/2 years. I have been under extreme stress (divorce, losing 2 jobs and a son who dropped out of high school, maintaining a long distance relationship and raising children). I've always been slender and have been active enough that weight gain was NEVER an issue. Now I am sooo depressed due to my distended, pregnant looking belly, and weight gain of 23 lbs in 1 year. I am 49 and my periods are fluctuating wildly. I have had my fallopian tubes removed after my last pregnancy 11 years ago. I have horrible heartburn, whatever I eat or drink makes me bloat to the point of pain. I have swollen ankles, exhaustion, forgetfulness and itchy skin, I sleep fitfully and I bruise easily. My blood pressure is low, but I just don't feel healthy. I don't know how to explain it.

Doctors have tried every blood test and scan - nothing significant shows. The markers for Celiac showed high in Feb, but a biopsy endoscopy showed no sprue. I have been eating gluten-free for several months with absolutely no change. I am awaiting results of an abdominal CAT scan, but I'm not holding out much hope anything will be found. I am so miserable and feel like a big fat blob. I don't know what to do or where to turn. Help someone!

I see over and over and over out on this site people who have bloated stomach, sick, constant yeast infections, headaches, etc. I have suffered from these most of my life and finally was diagnosed at 43.

First, and foremost, see a gastroenterologist. Especially someone who deals with specializing in disorders of the bowels.

Second, quit all dairy products (yes all!).

Third, keep a food diary every minute of every day for at least one week. (It helps a lot if you minimize what you ingest.)

Most often women have all of the problems listed above due to yeast overgrowth in their system, or food sensitivities. I ended up having a disease typically called Leaky Gut Syndrome. I have discovered (over the past 1-1/2 years) what I can and cannot eat and what foods will cause an immediate reaction. This condition is also exacerbated by a hiatal hernia and yeast overgrowth.

I still struggle with my diet. This is one of the most difficult things to change in your life. You have learned to eat a certain way and now it's time to change, but your body still craves those foods. I have had to get to the point of being completely unable to move out of bed, eat, or talk before I got to the point of change. But, slowly my diet is changing. Dairy is the number one offender out there, as well as processed foods. I have been able to substitute almond milk and figured out ways of eating around all other dairy products (no, I do not crave them). I have also found out I have severe sensitivities to tomatoes, walnuts, soy, mushrooms, chocolate, coffee, and salmon. I have managed to eliminate them from my diet and increase my fresh food intake. It doesn't mean I don't eat the bad foods in small quantities every once in a while, but I do know what to expect when I do eat them. And usually it isn't worth the bother.

Verify in your food diary how you feel 15 minutes after eating certain foods, one hour after eating, and three hours after eating. I have found my "bad" foods can even effect me up to several days later! That's because it smacks my system down each time and it doesn't have time to recover, until it just gives up.

Other symptoms I have had with this disease include: swollen glands behind ears, neck, and on throat; hives (looks like whiteheads on face, neck, or chest with red raised base); headaches; brain fog; heart palpitations; loose and very smelly stools; pain in top of stomach; severe reactions to strong smells - like perfume; pain in my left ear when I eat "bad" foods; severe GERD; gall bladder failure; etc. This disease and the yeast infection in my body have many symptoms. Just pay attention to how your body reacts to everything you put in it. I cannot take many, many medications because of the fillers in them, or drink beverages because my body can't handle the yeast or is allergic.

I do hope people see this post and think twice about how they do things every single day, because in the long run you only get one body, so treat it good and it will treat you good back and last longer.

Good luck, and I do hope you find some relief...DezinerDiva

I have exactly the same symptoms and I have never ever put weight on around my belly before - I have been feeling like this for nearly nine months I have been to a doctor and at the time I was bleeding a little too, after a termination - I had an ultra sound scan and apparently all is fine! I am uncomfortable all the time I can't do my trousers up yet the rest of my body looks slimer than usual. So fed up of feeling and looking rubbish with no explaination. :(

Have you done the Colonoscopy? I had bloating and abdominal pains for years. Doctor sent me for test after test. He finally told me it ws all in my head and put me antidepressants. I would not give up. I knew something was wrong. I went to a G.I. doctor and he sent me home with antibiotics! I called him back and he arranged for a colonoscopy. I had Colon Cancer. It was stage 2b and was a T3 tumor. I was 39 years old so they were not even thinking about Colon Cancer which is not even tested for until 60 and above. I'm not saying it is cancer-just be careful and advocate for your self!!

Have you checked out Cushions? Over production of Cortisol? I am going to meet an Endocrine specialist - Weight gain around stomach/trunk only, nausea, muscle weakness... lots of things....

Blood tests do not usually show this up. Other tests such as a Saliva test and other types do.

Good luck.

Couple things you might want to try....first, has your gastro guy done Hydrogen Breath studies?  This relates to bacterial overgrowth in your gut, I guess basically due to a ton of us being treated with antibiotics at every turn when we were kids.  My study was in three parts, first lactose intolerance, then sugar intolerance and lastly a bacterial one.  It didn't do much for me personally--all my reading were abnormal, but not clinically so...so they tossed me on tetracycline for a month and said good luck.  But, it might be the answer to someone else.  Secondly, a close friend of mine was just diagnosed with some rare cancer caused by overproduction of Seretonin.   It is apparently relatively unknown in the US (under 200,000 cases worldwide), but the symptoms are rather similar--swollen abdomen (caused by all the tumors growing inside they don't want you to know about), edema, heart distress type symptoms....apparently she has has this thing for the past seven or eight years and it finally was diagnosed by her cardiologist.  Good news is, if this is the issue, it is a very slow-growing cancer with an excellent prognosis if caught even mid-way on.

Finally, have you been checked for fibroid tumors?  Those can become utterly HUGE and some women develop them very quickly.  My very best friend in the world  just had to have a hysterectomy because her just diagnosed fibroid was about the size of a 5-6 month fetus.  So, the sooner you know this is not the case, the better for preserving organs!

Hi Folks:

I have the same symptoms -- it can oftentimes be undiagnosed ENDOMETRIOSIS. First suggestion: clean up your diet -- dairy, sugar, wheat/yeast, alcohol. Second: A supplement of DIM (which helps your body metabolize the negative effects of estrogen), Nature's Way is a great brand. Third: Digestive enzymes to help your body break down food better. Lastly: drink A LOT of water to help your body flush out toxins. Hope this helps -- it's the only thing that has helped me with my symptoms and oftentimes, endometriosis goes undiagnosed. Also, a typical solution from a doctor would be to get surgery or take hormones, so this regime helps you take your health into your own hands without negative side effects.

change ur doctor. follow ur instict as u are the only one who knows ur boddy. Liver can be a huge part of it. check cirrhosis and symptoms. Most of medicare blood tests are useless, pay for the blood tests which are not covered by medicare. i was undiagnosed for 8 years because i didn't know + i trusted same doctor. big mistake. now it may be too late for me. Specialist are no better than GP, BUT kepp pushing them to investigate further.

LIVER - Fluid Retention - HEART FAILURE - and CIRRHOSIS coluld be related. Change doctor - trust YOUR instict and keep looking for an answer. Good luck!
