I am 59 years old, I had a tonsillectomy, uvulectomy and adnoids taken out July 27/15. When you get home be sure to keep ice packs on your throat as much as possible for the first three days. When taking meds, crush them in a pistol, drink down with cold water. Write down the day and time so you don't forget to take them or you'll be in incredible pain. Sleep in a recliner. I lived on Glucerna (no milk and low sugar) and ice pellets for the first week. Drink some before taking meds, less nauseating. Do not try to talk just write, have bell or clap for help and text. Day four don't be surprised if you throw up. Second week pain changes, keep up with meds but include top ramen with eggs mixed in a blender. Third week you can eat normally and not take the meds quite as often. Be careful with talking or whispering. If you talk too much, your throat swells. I'm almost four weeks post-op and still cannot talk without swelling. I have no regrets. Still very glad I had this procedure. Get plenty of rest and drink a lot. Have a water bottle with you all the time but squirt it into your mouth.
