My son had tonsils and adnoids out 6 days ago. He still has pain but has been able to eat soups and soft foods (not a lot). He sounds like Erkle (from Family Matters) and I could also say he sounds like a deaf person sometimes. He had a really deep voice for a six year old but now sounds like a baby Erkle that may be hearing impaired! Oh and that "1 wk" of being out of school is out the window!! Tomorrow will make 7 days and he's nowhere ready for school. Maybe if he where older but certainly not elementary.

I am 59 years old, I had a tonsillectomy, uvulectomy and adnoids taken out July 27/15. When you get home be sure to keep ice packs on your throat as much as possible for the first three days. When taking meds, crush them in a pistol, drink down with cold water. Write down the day and time so you don't forget to take them or you'll be in incredible pain. Sleep in a recliner. I lived on Glucerna (no milk and low sugar) and ice pellets for the first week. Drink some before taking meds, less nauseating. Do not try to talk just write, have bell or clap for help and text. Day four don't be surprised if you throw up. Second week pain changes, keep up with meds but include top ramen with eggs mixed in a blender. Third week you can eat normally and not take the meds quite as often. Be careful with talking or whispering. If you talk too much, your throat swells. I'm almost four weeks post-op and still cannot talk without swelling. I have no regrets. Still very glad I had this procedure. Get plenty of rest and drink a lot. Have a water bottle with you all the time but squirt it into your mouth.

Hai, I'm only 11 years old and I can't talk at all! It's the first day after my surgery. All I did yesterday was throw up. I haven't eaten for almost 2 days now. But I'm just trying to sleep away the pain. I'm so miserable! Ugh.

I am on day 4 after tonsillectomy..so far I have eaten fried rice, chicken noodle soup, grouper, Mac and cheese, applesauce, and ice cream. I think that Gatorade is the best drink EVER. I'm 16 and I'm not gonna lie this is the worst pain ever. I get no sleep because of pain. But there's hope guys, I started taking this medicine called cepacol. As soon as I took it, I could talk 10x better and felt better. It numbs your throat so you don't feel anything! I race motocross and I even went and rode my bike today. I also went for a jog. I know it says your not suppose to but I was feeling great. But it seems it gets worse at night time for now I can't eat or sleep again. So it has its days. Overall this sucks. So I'm hoping for a fast recovery because talking and eating are my favorite things to do! LOL

I know the recovery is fairly long for a tonsillectomy and it sounds like it's taking a long time to be able to speak. But does anyone know the difference in getting the tonsils shaved and not totally taken out? I had this done yesterday and am hoping I won't not be able to speak for a whole week!
