Hello! I'm 14 and I had my tonsils removed last week because of persistent strep throat and bronchitis. I suppose I was luckier than most seeing as I could speak with little difficulty directly after coming out of the anesthesia. I always heard that the pain would be near unbearable, but for me, it felt like I had a bad case of strep. When the pain would dramatically increase, I would use Cepacol. It numbs the back of your throat and makes the pain subside. For food, I would recommend Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars. Other than that, make sure to get lots of sleep and drink lots of water. Wishing all of you a quick and smooth recovery!

Thank you for pointing out the facts about the tongue! It's my day 1 and the only thing that is being wired is my tongue which I feel it numb and it hurts. I've been able to talk just fine, which I am very surprise after reading other comments. I've only had one apple sauce today but not really hungry either. I'm guessing my body doesn't want to swallow yet. I've been really good with liquids. I had 2 littles of water and planning to get more before zzzzz.

Hi! Im a female, 14 years of age. I had my tonsils removed 8 days ago on October 10th, 2017. The first and second day where not all that bad. Day 3-6 was absolute hell! I could not eat..anything. I was having a lot of trouble swallowing liquids. Day 4 eased up a little bit though. I was able to drink one glass of warm tea. And I also managed to eat a bowl of mashed potatoes. After that, back to the usual pain. Day 6 came about and I was able to whisper most things. My boyfriend had taken me to Sonic and bought me a normal vanilla milkshake to see if i could loosen up my jaw muscles and drink something. This attempt was unsuccessful. I arrived home and felt absolutely dehydrated. My mom took me to the hospital because i had gotten to the point to where i could not longer swallow my pain medication.(Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 7.5-325mg) This was liquid syrup which coated my mouth and numbed the wounded area. I got to the hospital and they immediately taken me back to trama. They looked at my throat and hooked me up to an IV, and gave me more pain medication. After two hours, i was able to go home. Day 7 was so much better. I was able to eat soft foods. (Pasta mainly) Talking was my problem though. I am again, on day 8 and I have the same status! Im getting better day by day. I hope this helps with anyone who experiences this surgery.

I am 35 yrs old I got my tonsils removed yesterday at my throat hurts I hungry but I can’t eat I can’t talk only at a whisper can someone give some ideas to help me out

Don’t talk on the first day because the second day will be worse. It will hurt to swallow but stay hydrated. You may get sick of sugary foods so try ravioli. I had my tonsils out yesterday and I can’t talk because I got excited that I didn’t hurt to bad and spoke a lot and now I have to use sign language. No one in my family can understand me so try not to talk a lot

This is a relief that I’m not the only one I’m on day 4 of getting my tonsils and adenoids out but I did happen to find an article saying that if you had your adenoids removed your speech may be different where you are now missing a few things in your mouth and that it could take up to 3 months for your speech to seem normal again.

I’m 4 days in and it sorta hurts to talk but also I sound funny and it feels uncomfortable and my mom keeps getting mad at me when I don’t respond to certain things she says so I shake my head and then she gets mad and says well I can’t hear you shaking your head. So I’m like well what the c**p do I do some of my family understands sign language but not a lot of it so I’m not sure if that would help me or not
