I have had the same problem in my left thumb for a few years. Same as everybody else, nothing I put on it seems to help.

I've tried keeping it covered and moist, but that just makes it more tender, and seems to actually make it worse. I have cycles of the bubbles forming, the skin getting hard and peeling off, and the skin underneath being sensitive and sometimes bleeding.
I usually have from a few days to a week after the new skin toughens up of having and almost normal thumb, but the cycle always starts again.

It seems to be spreading under my fingernail as well. Every time my skin peels on my thumb, it goes up to where the skin connects to the end of my nail, and it separates the skin form the nail. It feels like I stabbed something under my fingernail, and it goes a little further every time it happens. Eventually I fear I will loose my nail on the left thumb because my skin is detaching itself from it.

It is especially hard for me being a tech, I use my hands a lot, and it makes it really difficult to do my job sometimes because of this condition.

My son also appears to have something like I have except his doesn't seem to go as deep or happen as often, but he has it on almost all of his fingers.

Doctors around here don't know what it is, and I have stopped putting anything on it when it happens. I just put up with it.

I'm having the same problem. Mine's a little different though. It starts to bubble into dry skin, then splits open. When i peel it off it keeps ripping off all of my other skin. It happens only on my pointer and middle finger and my thumb. What i found useful is using St. Ives collagen elastin. Although i still have the dry fingers, it's not as BAD. I've had this problem for over four years now and i'm only 13 1/2!

My index fingers and thumbs (both right and left) started peeling bout a week ago and continue to. There is no pain, but where the skin has peeled off and there is now discoloration that does not wash off. I thought the discoloration may be from eating pomagranites or using my fingers to blend in my life drawing class but it should not bepermanentl staining my skin. thought it might be seasonal eczema (I usually get breakouts on the upper arms during the dry season and sometimes chaffed fingertips but never this bad) however the browning skin seems more serious than eczema. It is also strange that no other fingers have been affected so it might be from something I am touching like my graphite or charcoal pencils. Any thoughts. These symptoms are a minor nuissance, but I'm worried about what the cause may be.

Wow, I'm not alone. Over 1 year ago the skin on the tips and pads of my fingers and thumbs started dying, cracking, and peeling off. The skin underneath is tender and the cracks are uneven and deep. It is painful. It has never gone away in all this time, so it can't be due to cold weather, hot weather, humidity, or any other climate issue. I've changed my shampoo, hand and bath soaps, dish soap, etc. to all organic. I wear gloves for gardening, cleaning, painting, etc. A previous post mentioned pomegranites--which I grow and love to eat. The juice stains the dead skin, but it can't be the cause since I only eat that fruit in season. My fingers usually look unsightly. It's embarassing at times. About 4 months ago it bagan on my feet. Again, very painful cracks developing due to dry, thick, inflexible dead skin. I use Heel Balm by Flexitol (contains urea) on my feet (after soaking). It helps, but nothing cures. More recently, the skin on the finger tips and feet has started itching. On fingers and feet I've topically used straight Vit E or A, olive oil, creams with no alcohol, mineral oil based or water based creams. Internally I've used Vit E and A, salmon oil, flax oil, olive oil, biotin, and every vitamin, herb, or oil I've ever heard that might help skin. No cure yet. In the year I've been researching, no one has ever said that a doctor or a prescription medicine helped them. I'll keep watching these posts for more suggestions. Thanks for the chance to talk about this.

My husband and I both suffer from this. We went to a dermatologist and she prescribed a 400.00 cream for psoriasis that didn't work. Then after reading some site we tried noxzema that worked for a while now we find that suntan lotion on hands are working to clear it up somewhat. Hope these suggestions help. But like you said it goes away sometimes on it's own but then returns.

I have had the same issue with my fingers. It starts with a litle bubble and then peels........no blood or pain. It is worse when I I get my hands wet in any way. Mine started several weeks ago after I cleaned the wheels on my car with Castrol wheel cleaner without wearing gloves. I am planning on seeing a Dr. soon.

I am an 18yr old male and 3 weeks ago I noticed that the skin on the pinkie finger of my right hand felt callous as though there was a layer of superglue on it. About a week ago the same sensation began on the pinkie finger of my left hand and the sensation had worsened on the right one. Yesterday the skin began to peel in little circles and today there is a largeish area of raw skin where the old skin has peeled off. I have not changed soap or moisturizer or any bathroom products.

I have only recently begun trying MDMA and thought it might be that, as it can cause rash and acne due to a dew things, among them, disfunctioning liver. However Kawasaki now sounds more appropriate as I my nasal cavities have been more conjested and I now have a small rash on my elbow.

Thinking of seeing doctor now. Thankyou.

I have a similar issue going on with my fingers having skin breakouts. Both of my two index fingers have skin peeling off of them and the skin feels very hard and easy to tear. There is also small amounts of blood coming from the cracks where the skin started to peel and they are also itchy but I didn't itch to get the skin to peel open and bleed. It also seems wet when the skin peels, almost like water if I didn't know any better. I also have skin peeling where my knuckle bones are on my right hand and it has a slight but constant sting, same as my fingers. I have no idea what's causing this to happen but its been going on for about 2 months so far. I tried skin ointments like Neosporin and it hasn't helped any. I'm not sure if I should see a doctor or what.

I am a 23yr old female studyin art & design. last weekend i was doing some college work when suddenly i got a pain on one of my fingertips. there was a small bubble, at first i thought it was a skelf but hadnt been using anything to have caused this. i stopped doing college work as my finger was really painful and couldnt draw. by the time i went to bed my fingertip was really red and puffy looking and when i woke up the next morning it was like a blister but with no fluid inside it and a ring of redness. my finger was also slightly swollen. i went to my doctor and he couldnt understand what had caused it, he gave me antibiotics as he thought it might help take the swelling down. after 3 days the blister turned hard and the skin died. its really uncomfortable, will the dead skin eventually fall off? my doctor said he wasnt ruling out it being caused by pressure on the skin, with using pencils and paint brushes. i dont know what to think.

I am a 19yr old college student, and I have had the same condition since i was about 14 involving the skin peeling on my fingers... I had always thought it was due to battery acid when I used to try and charge regular batteries in my battery charger but it always been troubling me. I usual get outbreaks of dry peeling skin, some last for months while some last days, this recent out break has caused me to do a little more research because even though I have prescription Mometasone Furoate it just makes my hands greasy and doesn't seem to help. I usually have little air bubbles on and around my fingers that contain pus though they are very small and painless. I moisturize my hands a lot and do not take really long showers or anything to aggravate my condition. My family has a history of sinus infections, and my nose is always either clogged up, runny, or not working at all but I run track and play football so its not like I'm unhealthy. I've pretty much accepted the fact that my fingers are disgusting but I really wish I knew what has been causing this all along..

Hello Everyone! I have noticed that everytime I get a cold or flu that my fingers start to hurt. It hurts inside the palm where the finger creeses are. Then about a day later my finger tips start to get numb. I have noticed that I see these tiny little clear bubbles on my fingers especially the tips. Mind you the whole time my hands are very itchy. Then comes the peeling. My fingers peel and also my palms. This last time even some of my toes started to peel. I did have scarlet fever as a child and my entire body peeled. Today I went to the doctor and they think it has something to do with my immune system when I get sick. They recommended I see a dermatologist so I am going to make an appointment. I think there is a correlation between being sick (cold/flu) and this condition.

I've really appreciated everyone posting on this because it's interesting to see so many have the same thing. I'm 34 and have pretty much exactly what most people are describing here. Skin starts peeling from the fingers and moves to the whole hand. It did it the first time a few months ago, but it just started doing it again.

I can help say what isn't causing it. As far as I know, I haven't changed any soap. I live in a very humid country so it's not dry weather. My diet has been pretty much the same.

From reading everyone's posts, I found it interesting that a few people reported getting sick before this happened to them. When I think about it, my health was weak and I was a sick which I felt was due to being run down from traveling when this first happened a few months back. However this time when it started, I feel healthy...so after reading the sickness posts, I'm wondering if the initial sickness or low immune system somehow triggers the beginning of this or is even the cause.

Common sense tells me it's a deficiency in something, but hope someone finds a shareable answer. Thanks!
