Currently I have a similar problem. I'm also a singer and as I approach some high notes, it feels as though the right side of my throat has a bone or something else sharp stabbing into it. I'm quite worried about it all :\

Today in Study Hall at school I had this horrible coughing "attack" and I could not breathe and my eyes were watering. My throat felt like there was something in it scratching it. It went away after a while. I have had this happen before. Should I see a doctor?

I wonder how many people on here actually went to the doctor or just took the google answer. I have had the same thing the last 2 weeks now. I have no congestion of any kind..just this random dry cough that comes from out of nowhere....half the time it closes my throat up and i naturally try to swallow and suck air in... I learned to try and "hum" while breathing through my nose and it causes the natural instinct to swallow to stop.

I can say this. I was doing some work in a large attic of a nursing home not long ago and the dust was so heavy in the air that I could taste it. I did not have a mask on and was breathing it in.. A few days later I had terrible congestion right under my throat and felt terrible. After a few days it was gone and then came this cough a few days later. I am assuming that, even though I am breathing fine and everything is clear with no congestion...no cold-like symptoms or anything...that there must be some drainage causing this. I just now had another coughing fit and it took a good minute for my breathing to go back to normal. This time when I spit in the sink there was a little bit of blood.

Get your mid-back and neck adjusted. You'd be surprised what that can do!!

I have exactly the same! So back a really think I am gong to die! Happened again last night, I have a got a dose of man flu so plenty coughing etc. Then one large cough and that’s it, throat closes up! And cannot breathe, 5-10s I can just about get a small about air, whilst making a noise like some deranged zombie! Often it’s so bad a wet myself whilst still grabbing for air (you body wants to breathe out, Brain wants to breathe in! Really really scary! 1st happened about 8yrs ago, called 999 as thought I was a gonna! Paramedics checked me over and said was fine and not too worry! Said sh*t man thought was going to die, he said no, you’d pass out and begin breathing! Wish I could test this with a paramedic at my side!!

My problem is when I sneeze my throat closes and I can't swallow. I choke when I try to swallow. I'm 66 and have always had this problem as well as my mother and uncle. My mom told me it was a change in temperature. Anyone else experience this condition?

Last year was when mine first this started. During my dry deep cough I can't breathe in or out for a few seconds. It doesnt happen every time I cough but most of the time. The hospital put me on a breathing machine and told me I had bronchitis.

This year I have been sick for 3 weeks with a cough and the longer the cough goes on the more I have this happen to me. Does anybody know what causes this yet?

This is exactly what I have. It's terrifying and I know I will be ok, but I still rather not deal with this. Did you ever end up finding what the issue was?

I think something happened to my throat when I was intubated during knee surgery. It has been two years since then and I still have a coughing spell where I cough hard and continuous and my throat closes over cutting off my breath and all I want to do is try to breathe with an eeeeek sound until finally it lets go and I can get a breath. I feel like this will kill me one day. I have been to several pulmonary doctors and they can't find an answer. Sometimes I can control it before my breath is cut off but the majority of the time, I can't.

In short, I have the same as all of you. Long story short, when i cough I trigger a VCD where my vocalcords effectively closes up so i can't take a breath. It's like drowning. And if I continue to cough, i will pass out. Furthemore, I can't laugh either. That will also trigger coughing to the point of passing out which i've already done numerous times. Super hard and dangerous trying to be fulltime dad to a 2yr old. When I'm in a coughing eposide, I can't to much else except to focus on my breathing. I'm seeing 2 Stanford specialist who deals with VCD/laryngospasm. My problem is my lungs are hypersensitive. Simple things like rubbing alcohol vapors will trigger my lungs to get inflamed and only remedy is my only savior; Ventolin HFA. Omg .. if it wasn't for Ventolin HFA, I don't want to live. To everyone, forget ENT, Pulmonologist or GI. You all need to see specialist in the field of VCD/laryngospasm. However, there is no remedy. They can only teach you breathing techniques. This is a spasm in your vocalcords which you have no control over. An involuntary muscle. They say stress and anxiety induces this and i can tell you it certainly looks that way for me.

Basically I feel like i'm being waterboarded 4x a day. Mentally it's breaking me down.

There is some truth to all this being related to GERD / GI where may be over reacting stomach acid may cause this so looking to water only fasting for 5-7days. It has helped me before.

Also just found out Aloe Vera whole leaf drinks could help to soothe the mucus triggering by coating it/healing it?

I'm getting desperate.
