Hi. I’m wondering if you ever found an answer to the strangling sensation. I too am dealing with this & I’m 3 years post thyroidectomy. It’s a horrible way to live. Doctors don’t know what to do with me and my days are spent tending to myself & being miserable. My doctor does believe me, my primary care doctor anyway , and so I’m prescribed muscle relaxers and pain meds to help. They do help as does being in water, a tens unit snd putting lidocaine strips on the front of my throat. Did you ever find an answer? I would love to chat!
Hi i have had left hemi thyroidectomy last week..i feel stifness ,swollen on the upper part only of the stutures and im feeling like a solid lump on the site where they removed the lump and thyroid ..
Do you feel like a lump pls ? Cause im worried
These symptoms have caused debilitating issues for me as I have to lie down and rest every 45 minutes to and hour each day .This is the only temporary relief I get from some of my symptoms. If I get up after my rest to do anything around the house, the clock starts ticking away before I have to lie down again.
I was an energetic powerful individual that weight lifted 6 times a week and missed 3 days of work in 15 years.
My world has been turned upside down since the surgery and struggle to get through each day. Doctors don't understand and have any sympathy for what endure each day. My ENT told me in September of 2020 that my neck healed well and that my symptoms I deal with every day is my new normal.
Is anyone dealing with the same debilitating symptoms I do ? I would like to hear your story and how you are dealing with your new normal.
My right thyroid removal was in Sept 2016 and I too, still live with the after effects many of which you listed. Mine was cancerous and had grown inward affecting my vocal cords.
The coughing was so severe I had my Dr. write a note (I keep It in my purse) that it was due to surgery and was not contagious. They found that switching one of my meds helped to decrease it but it's still an issue.
In the beginning, I also saw a behavior specialist for a few sessions to help me cope with all that I was going through. She was extremely helpful with the swallowing issue for which I had several tests to find out what the issue was. To this day I can't eat nuts, anything with seeds etc.
The 24hr painful choking was an unexpected result. I best described it to them as having a sock with a big hole that was sewn up, the sock is that much smaller and tighter. My pain Doctor was also head of the pain department. He enrolled me in his acupuncture sessions. Amazingly, it helped with the other issues like my back, dizziness etc but not so much my neck pain. I admit I only went once. It's still unbelievable to me, to still have this major neck discomfort so many years later.
I was told I'd be out of work for 3 weeks. It turned out I was never able to return and had to go on long term disability and then retirement. Every year I have an ultra sound of my neck and blood work to be sure there's no additional cancerous growths.
I hope the doctor(s) can help find the relief for you to make the symptoms more manageable.
