So glad I happened upon this information. I thought I was going crazy. It's been one year post TT and just for the last couple of weeks, the tightness comes and goes, sometimes it's very uncomfortable. I feel as though a good massage of the shoulders would help, since it helps a little bit when I try it myself. I find it's worse in the morning, and as the day goes on, it subsides a bit. Like having a stiff neck all the time! I even thought of buying new pillows!!! I'm going to try the stretching exercises described here. I figure it can't hurt. Thanks for all the great stories and information.

Figured I would hop in and post something non-invasive but annoying to the moderators so that they have a post to delete so that they can feel important this morning.

Hoping everyone is feeling better, do those neck excercises.

To all of you with the tightness complaint, I had a complete thyroid ectomy due to cancer. Days after they took the blood drains out my incision was of course puffy and my neck swollen... once the swelling went down I could feel the tightness again but that was coming from the scar healing. I am mediately began using straight vitamin E oil, granted it was kind of thick going on but in the long run it did help plus I had to constantly stretch my neck. It’s been a year now I know longer have neck pain or tightness and you can barely see my scar on the downside I am having an endoscopy in two days I begin feeling like I was choking on my food have a hard time swallowing and other throat problems testing showed I have a hiatal hernia in my esophagus, literally I hole there.. Request a barium swallow test you may find like I did that the problem lies there,, good luck

Any updates? I had a partial thyroidectomy 4 weeks ago and am experiencing tightness in my throat. I was hoping it was just part of the natural healing process but after seeing all these posts I’m quite worried.

Hi
I had partial as well and that was 3 months ago. So during this time i emailed my surgeon over and over that time letting her know how i am feeling.
I then had a barium xray swallow test and it showed a dismotility in my oesophagus where the upper sphincter is not working to push food through so i feel like its stuck. Throat is tight when i swallow.
If i lay on my left side in bed i feel normal and throat not as tight. I had my partial on my right. Before surgery i was healthy and i found two lumps and one was fna needle which showed suspicious. Turned out all benign but stuck with all of these other problems.
What othet symptoms to you have?

I had to reply to your message. I am 4 weeks post op. I have very little pain at my incision but I have the sharp pin point pain on my right side of my neck, gland area -ish. It radiated up to my ear and is very pain full. My follow up with the surgeon said it was the healing.
I have to take motrin and tylonel twice a day to deal with the pain. No idea what it is. . Any other insight would be helpful.

I had my right thyroid removed a month ago and I have been having tightness and choking feeling constantly. I had my surgery through my bottom lip. my chin is numb and my jaw hurts and my throat feels like somebody is choking me and I can barely move my neck because of the tight feeling and stretching feeling in my throat. It also feels like I have a lump in my throat.

I have had the same issues with tightness and my neck popping alot...feeling like I'm choking at times. High quality Helichrysum essential oil with CBD mixed in helps a lot!!! Also, cranialsacral therapy. My mom has been giving me treatments, and it releases a lot of the tension and headaches I get sometimes from lifting something too heavy. And I just read there are 7 neck stretches that should be done everyday.
