My three-year-old son has recently started experiencing throat clearing fits. He does it frequently before falling asleep and right after waking up. It also happens sometimes while he's eating, and sometimes out of the blue. He sniffs and clears his throat in repeated succession.

I've read that this may be an early sign of asthma. Are there any other ear/nose/throat issues he could be experiencing? Should I go see his doctor or wait it out?

Thank you-
Hi,

My little guy is now 3 1/2. At 2 1/2 he would do the same thing with the addition of coughing (mostly at night or during nap) sometimes to the point of throwing up.

We took him to the doc and they ran tests from asthma to allergys and came up with nothing, yet he seemed to be getting worse.

Then one doctor said, mom, if you're game let's try something. At this point of staying up with my little one most of the night because he would cough so violently in his sleep, I said ok doc let's do it!

He gave him SINGULAR 4 mg, once at bedtime. After taking it for a week that child never coughed or cleared his throat again!! (unless he gets a cold) We also added a humidifier in his room to add moisture. It helps a lot!! JUST MAKE SURE TO KEEP IT CLEAN!!

Hope this helps!! Ask your doc!
