Tonsil stones are very common, don't worry! I've had them on & off since I was about 16... I'm 36 now! For me they seem to get worse when I'm run-down or stressed, but I'm not sure if this is true for other people. They're annoying & uncomfortable (and can get smelly if you don't take care!) but not a real health concern, don't worry about them! They can be managed by removing them manually as they occur - press around the area (VERY carefully) with your fingertip or a cotton-bud till they pop out, or if you don't like the sound of that (it can make your throat a bit tender & scratchy afterwards), you can gargle salt water. No need to get tonsils removed unless they cause you actual pain (not just inconvenience/irritation)... tonsils actually protect your throat from infection. As a personal view, it annoys me to think that NHS funding would ever go on an operation for something so minor that has no health implications when there are shortages in other areas like cancer, mental health, learning difficulties etc.
I had them after I had a crown fitted at the dentist, really bad for about 3 years, found a very helpful american web site and down loaded information how to get rid of tonsil stones, best £11.00 I have spent.Basically dont have dairy in your diet, have soya milk instead, small amounts of cheese dont seem to cause a problem, but stay away from cream cakes and the milk,it has worked for me.
I heard it's possible for your tonsils to grow back.. that could be why
How old were you when you had you tonsillectomy? Are you male or female? Did you have to be hospitalized? Were you in a lot of pain afterward? and last but not least....was it worth it? Thanks Crypto
I've had them for over a year, and it's odd because I got them at 16. I am going to try and get them removed, because every morning I wake up with a sore throat and I have to spend ten minutes getting out the stones.
I am a 35 yr old male who dealt with tonsil stones on and off for years.(Cant even say how long, I didn't know what it was). I also felt run down and just unhealthy in my throat for quite a while. I just had my tonsils removed four days ago and am already excited about the way I feel without those things in my head. I am still dealing with pain from the surgery, but it has not been as bad as some things you read. Lots of water!! Muscle Milk for protein and vitamins have helped me greatly, along with pain meds and a steroid given by my DR. I know I am still not "out of the woods" with my recovery just yet, but I feel better with the sore throat from surgery than I did with constantly swollen tonsils. I hope I am not jinxing myself with all this positive thinking.
Talking for more than a few minutes at a time is the most uncomfortable part of recovery so far. I would recommend getting tonsils out for any one who has dealt with "stones" for an extended period of time. I would have done it sooner if I would have realized what I had been dealing with for so long. LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER DURING FIRST DAYS OF RECOVERY. Chewing sugarless gum has also helped with the referred pain in the ears. Good Luck to anyone geting tonsils removed.
I have had him for a while now they go away and come back even worse I'm glad to see I'm not alone
Eer find a solution to your problem?
the Adenoids can also contribute to this. You may consider having them removed.
You're gross. But I agree with you, haha.
I hate to burst your bubble... I had a tonsillectomy and my adnoids removed when i was 7 years old. I still have these cauliflower shaped bacteria or tonsil stones as you call them.... You can have your tonsils out but I still get them and have no tonsils so how do you explain that one... ?
