I had tonsillectomy March 10th friday. Which is supposed to be 10 days recovery. But then weds morming i was spweing blood uncontrollably because an artery vessle broke open and I lost a lot of blood. My mom had to call 911 and i Then had surgery again. They had to re cauterize the area and after losing 3 liters of blood total I needed a blood transfusion but they only gave me one unit. My blood count is still low. But they discharged me. Still healing now but it seems to be healing normaly. I meet with the doctor tomorrow. it takes the body 2 to 3 weeks to reproduce my blood cells to get back up to my normal numbers.

So I had my tonsils out 8 days ago, and bang on a week after my surgery, I felt one of the scabs come off, it was a very sharp pain and I noticed that wasn't right, so I spat into a cup and seen the blood. I started to drink ice water to help the bleeding, which didn't work; I drank so mjch water I started vomiting, which looked like pure blood because I'd swalllowed so much. So I drank more water, more vomiting, and I stopped drinking water, and the clots started, I was gagging on huge clots and splitting it out, it kept making me cough which only made it bleed more, so we went to the ER and on the way down i vomited more, which was pure blood this time. I started to feel really faint and dizzy, and they took my blood and everything, put me on a drip and antibiotics because my bloods showed a slight infection but the bleeding had slowed down a lot, they also made me gargle hydrochloric peroxide I think it was and they kept me in overnight and then overnight again, luckily the bleeding has stopped for now but have to eat and drink as normal as possible but I'm pretty scared I'll bleed again.

How was the pain after the cauterisation and stitches??? And how long did it take for your stitches to dissolve???

19-year-old here, today is day 8 for me. Yesterday, day 7, I woke up spitting out blood and then ended up throwing up a lot of blood that I had swallowed in my sleep. They put me back into surgery and cauterized my wounds, but this morning, I can barely swallow anything again.

So I had my tonsillectomy over 10 days ago and was recovering brilliantly. After having an family emergency, I panicked which caused my blood pressure to raise. A result of this meant the pressure reputured a whole in my tonsils and started bleeding a LOT. During my recovery for the tonsilectomy I didn't bleed once, not even a little at home. I Went to A&E and filled 4 and a half bowels of blood along with the blood I lost at home. I was rushed through for an emergency op to get this cauterised. scariest moment of my life. They drained 200ml of blood from my stomach and due to all the blood loss I was borderline needing a blood transfusion. So everyone please be careful even if you think you are recovering. Try to stay calm and stress free. I do not recommend this experience and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I seem to be ok now but fingers crossed, I don't have another bleed.

I'm 17 and I'm currently spending day 8 in hospital.

Night before at around 3am the back of my throat went brown and looked almost like jelly, started coughing up blood so went to A&E got put on antibiotic drip and then sent to another hospital and put on another antibiotic drip. Whole day was fine except usual pain in throat and ears, until about an hour ago randomly started coughing up blood again. Cleared up now but worried for what's next to come as only on day 8.

Just wanted to share my expierence with getting my tonsilectomy. I had undergone a surgery on Tuesday September 19th 2017, felt fine for a few days but then realized my throat was getting worse and worse rather then getting better. Plus I was hungry and couldny eat absolutely anything other then popcicles. So I was really getting exhausted along with Just being completely sore. So Saturday roles around and I'm thinking I need to goto the hospital. So I went to the hospital and got told I had a infection. Long story short the doctor in the ER prescribed me naproxen. DO NOT EVER TAKE ANY ANTI INFLAMMATORYS WITHOUT RESEARCHING THEM EVEN IF YOU GOT PRESCRIBED THEM AT THE HOSPITAL!!!!! So I took this medication that day and the next and instantly felt better because it decreased the swelling but then ended up causing internal bleeding. The very next day Sunday the 24 went back to emerge with a small bleed. The ENT on duty dr bravo was fantastic he asked me all the nessacary questions and asked what medications I was on and I had said naproxen and he immediately was stunned that the ER at this hospital would prescribe me such a thing!!! So sure enough I had to get re cauterized and had to stay a night in the hospital I was fine and got re admitted out on Monday morning. So that day I was extra careful at home got pretty much sent back to square one and I was in pain!! Sure enough that evening I felt okay and then 11 pm rolls around and im ready for bed, my grandma got my room all ready for me because I was staying with her while my mom was working at the hospital. Right then and there I had tasted a foul taste in my mouth and immediately ran to the bathroom opened my mouth and my mouth was gushing bleeding!! I then got rushed to the emergency room by my grandpa who only drives 40 km on a regular day was going about 100km. By then I probably spit out at least 100cc of blood and I was re admitted back to surgery within 12 hours because of the naproxen that LHO ER prescribed me.Note to self I am the only person on record that has had to come back 2 times after getting my tonsils out so all together I endured not only one surgery but 3. Don't ever take anything other then tylonal and your pain meds that you're ENT ORIGINALLY PRESCRIBED

Hello,
I began to bleed heavily on day 10 and went to the emergency room where I continued to bleed and throw up bags of blood and blood clots. I eventually passed out in the emergency room and started convulsing. All this resulted in losing around 1.5-2 liters of blood. I had to receive 3 blood transfusions. I still am thankful to be alive. It was funny, it went from 1 nurse in the ER to basically every staff member in the hospital.

I'm not trying to scare you my daughter had to be rushed back to the hospital 2 weeks after surgery to re-cauterize her throat she began throwing up blood and blood clots ,my advice to you is drink plenty of ice water , my daughters pain peaked around day 7 and 8 so prepare for that , if you start bleeding a lot go back to the hospital immediately , good luck to you

I know this post is old but I figure it could help anyone trying to research about this! I had my tonsils out on 1/9/19. everything was going fine, I was in a lot of pain but that was expected. The following Tuesday (day 5) I had my first bleed. I figured it was an emergency so I rushed to the ER, the bleeding stopped, and I was sent home. The next day (Day 6) I had a vey small bleed early in the day and was able to get it to stop quickly. Later that day I had a much larger bleed, and ended up spitting out at least a cup or more of blood. I went to the ER again, of course once I got there the bleeding stopped, and I was told this was normal and I was sent home. The next day (Day 7) I had ANOTHER bleed, around the same amount as the one I'd had on day 6, instead of going to the ER I got the bleeding to stop myself and went on. Well about 10 minutes later the bleeding started again, very slowly. I was barley bleeding at all, but it wouldn't stop so I decided to head to a [different] ER. On the way to the ER the amount of blood coming out of my mouth had almost tripled. As soon as I walked into the ER I started throwing up blood everywhere and they rushed me straight to a room. A huge blood clot got stuck in my throat making it difficult to breath along with the amount of blood that I was throwing up. I was soon after rushed to surgery to get re-cauterized and stitched up. I stayed in the hospital for three days due to the amount of blood loss, and due to how dehydrated I was. I am now home and the side of my throat that wasn't bleeding is doing great! The side of my throat that had to be re-cauterized has pretty much started the healing process all over again, very painful! I'm still hoping (and very scared) that when the scabs fall off of the side that had to be re-cauterized another bleed doesn't happen. Doctors say this is very unlikely. Also (PSA) if you have post tonsillectomy bleeding first try to get the bleed to stop with ice, or cold water (this is a vasoconstrictor and will cause the vein to constrict). If the bleed does not stop call your on-call ENT at the nearest hospital and quickly get to an ER. It's very scary, but its okay!

After my tonsillectomy, there was bleeding. Went through a second surgery to cauterize. How long before this pain subsides? Can you ease it with anything?
