Hi! Thank you SO much for sharing your story. I've been feeling really down about reading the life expectancy #s everyone has been posting and what it says online. I too was young when I had both a type a & b aortic dissection. i've since had surgery to repair an aneurysm also. My aortic root was also replaced and I also had an aortic valve repair. My dissection is infra-renal, so past my kidneys. I also lost my baby during this tragedy, as I was 40 weeks pregnant and a day. She saved my life. I was 31 (last yr) when this all happened, and I'm so fearful of dying. I have my whole life to live, but I don't know what I can and cannot do. As a survivor of FOURTEEN years (amazing!), do you have any advice for me as to activities/exercises you do/can't do, what you eat and how you keep yourself from becoming extrememly down about our condition? Thanks for reading and sharing! ;-)
Thank you for posting. I must say when I read the date this happened to your husband, I had to hold my breath for a second, because my type a and b dissections occurred on March 27th, 2010, and I was diagnosed and had emergency surgery performed on me on Sunday, March 28th, 2010, dates I will never forget. I was 31, now 32. How is your husband doing now?? And have you found out an answer to the life expectancy for people our age with type a and b dissections?
Also, I wanted to know how you are doing now? How is your health? How are you feeling?
Hi,
My name is Romel David and I had an aortic dissection two years ago. I was at UC Davis for two months undergoing a total of five surgeries. Which included a graft on my ascending thoracic aorta and a straw sewed into my abdominal aorta to replace my destroyed iliac artery. With the exception of a drop foot as a result of blood flow being clamped of during surgery; I seem to have recovered very nicely. I manage my bp with meds and watch my diet and exerciser regularly. However, I too often wonder what my long term life expectancy is. I am now 54 years old and have learned to take each day as a gift. God never promised me tomorrow; He gave me only today.
I would like to join your support group. I had a type B aortic dissection in January 2014.
May 13 2014. Aortic dissection. There is not a lot of information out there and I really need someone to talk to
Hello.
Unfortully, (sorry for my bad english ) my father had a urgent surgery dissection of aorta. Right away he was put on the surgery table the aorta had brake and untill the doctors open him had pass 10-20 minutes. The surgery last 7 hours, after the doctors they told me that will apear complications. Now after 5 days in coma, he is on dyalis, and multiple organs risks. I dont know what to ask i`m kind of dessperate. any help or any thing that halp will be aprreciate. Thank you !
I must be doing something wrong because I don't see a lot of recent activity or a response to my request for someone to talk to. Is anybody there? Well, if it helps I had a type B on May 13, 2014. I am doing well. Trying not to focus on the life expectancy question. Taking it one day at a time, and definitely taking time to smell the roses.

Hi I too have type b and am suffering a little back pain at the moment but otherwise quite well I don't know the life expectancy for this but I am just getting on with things
My 42 year old husband suffered a Stanford Type B dissection on April 15, one day before our 13th anniversay. His doctor cleared him to go back to work even though we told him he works with patients that may become combative. Should we be concerned?
My husband had the same, top to bottom dissection. He lived for almost 11 years before his aorta ruptured and he passed away.
Thank you for your post. You give me hope. My husband had a type A and B dissention in April 2014. He had surgery to correct the type A, he has a mechanical valve. They are treating the type B dissention with medications but I am very afraid every time he has a stomach or back pain. His left legs is numb most of the time but he walks and even goes to the movies sometimes. It is a real miracle he is alive. Thank you again. Isa
Hi Yvonne
I too am doing good after a recent type B AD but spending so much time trying to find more information on this.. Glad you're smelling roses. I too hope to get there. Tony
Hi
Did the doctors tell you 'why' you were still having back pain?? I had a type B AD 2 months ago with continued back pain. A very recent CT scan was taken and the dr said everything looked ok? Thanks
Hi. I also had a type B dissection this past year on Oct. 10, 2014. I can say that this was the most horrible experience I have ever been through. My dissection happened 4 days after my 55th birthday and on my 28th wedding anniversary. I also went through surgery and have since returned to work. Its now been nearly 4 months and every day I feel stronger.
