Whether you panic or not depends... if you have a family to support, obviously I think the panic would be greater than if you were on your own. Also, how long you've been getting UC. It's more diginified to get money for work you are doing (or a pension from work you did).
I was never unemployed until I was over 60. I always found a job without losing a day. When the company closed when I was 61 I discovered there aren't any jobs for old people. Anti- age discrimination laws are pure BS. When all the jobs are entry level most of them involve work that most 60 year olds cannot do. Can you picture a white haired sea captain doing an able bodied seaman's job? I found an opening with the state DOT avionics division repairing the instrument landing systems at the civilian airports. They were thrilled to invite me for an interview as I had the FCC license needed for the job. The last question I was asked at the end of the interview was " How do you feel about hiking a half mile through the woods in 4 feet of snow with 60 pounds of equipment on your back to get to the equipment shack?"
Not like that where I live, applying was NOT a breeze It was like filling out most any other government form, if you don't dot an 'i' or cross a 'T' just right you go back to the end of the line and start over. Once you get through that you are assigned to someone who feels superior to you in every way. You have to go back every week with a form showing how many jobs you applied for and where, even if they have nothing to do with what you know how to do or are capable of doing.
How's the pooch gonna get his napping done?!
And no more balcony spitter stories?!
:(
90's but, then again, I'm not one to be satisfied with not having a job. I was only on it for 2 months.
The biggest pain might be more in the lack of money you receive than anything. It'd be better just to go get a job at McDonalds in my opinion.
