Unpleasant Vaginal odor, could it be my IUD?

Are you still having these issues? Im ready to go have mines out!! Can't take it

Just like all u ladies I have been having the same problems. I haven't had funny colored discharge no itching no burning I got my birth control put in on March of 2016 and the first 3 or 4 months the rotten odor was on and off but here lately I can't get it to go away . I have had cramps all day almost EVERY DAY since I got it out in and I am going to take my chances on another baby and pray condoms work I feel so dirty and nasty cuz of this odor all the time I to was also wondering if my significant other had cheated . But thought it was so wierd I had no other symptoms other than a fowl odor. I'm calling my Dr tomorrow to have this thing removed. So I am so glad I found this page and read alot of these comments it sure did make me and my boyfriend feel alot better but it's still gross as hell it's got to go.

Douche with hydrogen peroxide and start taking acidophilus and folic acid every day. The peroxide will rid the smell and discharge and the acidophilus (probiotic) and folic acid will help rebuild your ph.

And stay away from antibiotics unless they are truly needed. Take a multivitamin daily in addition to the acidophilus and folic acid. I also take a selenium. You can buy all of this at Walmart for about $10 total. Selenium is really good for your immune system.

I have had this odor as well. I went to the doctor and so relieved to find out that the strings from the mirena had debre, on them so the doctor cut the strings and bam the odor went away

Yes I have had the same issue went to my doc git treated for bv and then had to be treated for a yeast infection and was fine for a month now the odor is back again. I'm not sexually active at all and maintain my personal hygiene very well. This is embrassing and I'm thinking I want to just have it removed.

I had my miners removed no smell while it was in since having it remove it smells like something. Died in there. Ur the only post ive seen that's after. I blead for 3days and now ive stopped. Bleeding. But the smells. Still there. Did urs go? X

Your situation sounds like mine. I have a new iud (9mths) and bf (5 mths) and he hadn't complained about the smell, but sometimes I can smell myself even thru jeans. It's not worse than slightly unpleasant. A close friend, I asked her if I smelled. She said no, and sympathized at times she feels the same about herself and thought it was a natural concern we all have. My odor has definitely increased since the iud though. I wash twice daily and it's fine. I wear tongs too. Never to bed though, no panties to bed. No douching. I use a little soap on outside only, a mild sensitive skin soap. It still bothers me but I take care of it with a little extra hygiene efforts.

late to the post but so happy I found it. I've had Mirena for 18 months. doctor diagnosed as BV, the antibiotics gave me a yeast infection. no stds. period came back after being gone for 6 months and I bled weird brown stuff after sex. and now my period smells super bad, I've never had problems like that in my life. I'm going to call the doctor who placed it tomorrow to see about getting it removed. ugh, I really liked mirena before all this

i have the "ammonia base" smell too soo irritating i used to have the mirena few years go an i always had the BV then after 3 year i took it out an i have bv even worse after about a year later everything went back to normal now 2 years ago i decided to get the Mirena again and year later here comes the symptoms again i feel like i can never be dry ugh.

OH my goodness! Once again the women of the world have saved me when doctors have failed to meet my concern!!! THIS SMELL! It's like an evil dead hamster ghost that follows me around. I had a copper IUD inserted 3 months ago after fighting with my doctor over side effects from the mirena (she literally said it was impossible that I was having negative side effects. what a jerk! Unbelievable...) and now I have this unexplained odour driving me absolutely mental. I dropped a class over it and have ceased all dating:( All tests for BV and std's came back negative after being traumatized by googling every std out there. The worst part is that doctors don't seem to know or care about IUD side effects and it's disturbing that SO many women seem to go through this. I feel so...repressed. Thanks to all of you for sharing, I'm making an appointment to have this removed to get back to a balanced, loving relationship with my vagina!!

I had mine removed a few days ago. Smell completely gone.

I had the same issue. The smell followed me around and doctors kept telling me there was nothing wrong BUT gave me antibiotics. I just got fed up and told the doctor to remove it. Two hours later... No smell... No discharge. Nothing. I could even bend down and touch my toes again

Yes! I had a copper IUD for 7 years and during the 1st year everything was ok. However, starting year 2 I started to have BV symptoms. At first the infections occurred ever couple of months and the symptoms were very mild and would clear up on their own. Fast forward through the years, and by year 5-6 I started to have BV almost every other week. I tried everything from antibiotics to home remedies like tampons with plain yogurt & so on. The only thing that helped were these suppositories from the pharmacy. However, by year 7 Even the suppositories stopped working and the antibiotics would only alleviate the symptoms during the days I would take them. Two days later the infection would return. Before my copper iud I never had BV so finally I started to suspect these infections could be related/caused by the copper iud. 11 days ago I had my copper iud removed & it was the best decision I could have made. At first I was cautiously optimistic that removing it would cure these infections but within a couple of hours its removal the BV symptoms were already starting to disappear. Today I am 11 days post copper iud removal and I haven't had any BV symptoms!!! That fishy scent is gone and Thank God my vagina is back to normal!!!
