Unreal so many people are having this issue. Me too of course that's why I'm here there doesn't seem to be much info about this issue other than forums that's kind of weird hey? As soon as I got the copper IUD I bled for like a month and my crotch smelled not normal. Strong stink like yeah rotten and fishy. So disgusting I know it's so messed up to have your body change like that! I don't think
It's an infection or std as I have no other symptoms. Now the smell is only on my period and my period is way heavier than it was before. Like it seems like so much blood to lose. I want to take it out but what's a better alternative for hormone free? Condoms? I dunno. I do know I'm not walking around for life smelling like this. Not worth it. Want my normal smell back.

I first started noticing this about a month after my IUD was fitted - I tried everything to stop the smell but I got so self conscious about it I had to have it removed. This was about 2 weeks ago - the smell has gone completely! Couldn't be happier!!

I've has an iud for over 10 years. And never had a smell. About 8 months ago I had it replaced with a new different one. I now have a smell during sex. So no iud's don't always cause a smell. I'm going to go back and get it replaced

I'm 23 and had the mirena in for almost 4 years. About a year ago I noticed many things happening down there. Went to the doctor and ran multiple tests, I legit told her to smell it and she said there's no smell (but I smell it ) and all tests came out negative. I know my body and I just knew something wasn't right.
I got the mirena removed about two weeks ago and everything is gone, everything is better now. Mirena is great for preventing pregnancy, but I'm on the pill now to put my pH to normal and get more estrogen in my body.

I have had paragard for 9 years. It works like a charm. However I have had BV many time in the past two years. I take the antibiotics and it comes right back. I have good personal hygiene and I constantly change my panties or use panty liners. I am going to have it taken out because I think maybe it has gotten old. I am close to the expiration of it. Plus I've been considering having another child. I'll post back if I have any luck with the remova.

Finally some ladies I can relate.. it is a very sensitive topic to disgust with anyone. I've had the copper IUD for about 7years already Its been the best birth control ever But like everything has its good and bad, I also experience an unusual odor where I hold off from having intercorsis and is embarrassing. When this would happen I would go to my doctor immediately and she would prescribe me antibiotics for the infections which is the cause of that odor. After 2 to 3 days taking the antibiotics it's would go away, when I wasn't active for over a year (I know long time) I never had this problems, but we're back it and came back with this odor and I'm ready to remove it.

Wanted to share my experience here. Had the Mirena placed and bled for two plus weeks accompanied by the dumpster smell :( KOH/wet prep was negative for clue cells (no bacteria seen) Had mirena removed after two weeks because regardless of if my body was just "adjusting", I couldn't handle that awful stinch.

I also wanted to add that since I've had it removed, I haven't smelled it at all

I am so glad I found this forum. Having the same problem than many and by reading the comments I decided to try the Rephresh product. Luckily the pharmacy did not have it so I ended up buying VH Prebiotics suppositories which was a lot cheaper. I will give it a try and if that does not take care of the problem I will have to have mine removed. But I used it last night and so far so good. Decided to read the reviews and it looks like is the most effective solution and not pricey at all. Good luck to us!!

I have been freaking out thinking I have PID or something before I saw this. I have no other symptoms, just the smell and was worried, but there is no chance of it being an STI. I have had my Mirena for about 3 months and this just started a couple days ago. I really hope it doesn't get worse, I don't want to go back to the patch! I will definitely try some of the products.

I've noticed this too I went to the doctors and got tested twice by two different ones- no infection at all- the second doctor took a closer look and noticed discharged buildup on the string- definitely a reaction of the Mirena. It sucks. Mines smells like ammonia and it's bad enough that I won't wear jeans more than one without washing them- my finace notices it too

Ive had this "smell" off and on for past 4 years of being on the mirena and i have had only one partner while being on it. Never had i experienced so many bacterial infections since i have had it implantd. I have been doing some reading on it and found a lot of women experience this. I loved how it had no hormones but i cant deal with the smell i had it removed today and already am feeling like i have cured myself lol :)

I also had the mirena and noticed the smell I asked my dr and they tested for std and bacterial infection, both negative so I took out the mirena and it went away! went back on the mirena and it's happening all over again! Now i exercise and eat clean!!! Not sure why but people keep insisting it can be an infection, then why dose the test come out negative
