I am happy to see that although I have never met anyone (aside from my mother and brother) who have experienced this or could even really comprehend what I was describing, I am too, not alone. The power of the internet is comforting in it's ability to conect I suppose. Since I was a child (dont remeber what age but younger than 10) I have expeienced what i have always thought of as "fast spells". Exactly what the author who wrote this post describes... like every thought, every sound, everything was urgently rushing around me. This has (like most other people in this thread) become less and less frequent as I have gotten older (25 now) and I have become more able to understand that it will soon end and calmy sit and wait for the fast spell to pass (also usually in ten minutes or less)... but even staring at a blank wall and forcing myself to take deep breaths has never been enough. I think 1. this is hereditary 2. random (in that there is no possible way you can predict when it will happen) 3. one of the most out of control & overwhelming feelings I have ever experienced. Thank you everyone for sharing and although it is freaky I am sure it is nothing to worry about. Peace
Mother of RRSaba here. This site is so helpful. I am now 52 and had never found anyone else who had experienced these "fast spells" until my son, now 32, and daughter described them to me when they were children. I was glad to be able to reassure them, just based on the fact that mine had decreased dramatically over the years, and everything else seemed normal; but didn't have any explanations for them. I described the spells to a psychology instructor years ago and saw her eyes get really big...not reassuring! She also had never heard of them. For me, I don't recall ever feeling the size difference people talk about in AIWS. I now go a year or 2 without one. Thanks to everyone for sharing. It's such a relief to know there are others out there who have experienced them.
This used to happen to me too. When I as a child, maybe somewhere between the ages of 5 and 9, I had the feeling that my perception of time was sped up and that all sounds and voices had a harshness or urgency to them. One occasion in particular standds out in my mind because it went on for much longer than I was comfortable with. Just as I began to panic quietly to myself thinking it was never going to stop, the feeling went away and everything returned to normal. I'll never forget the way it felt as long as I live.
I have had the same thing for some time now and I'm still in high school and I happens to me around an average of once a month. It is the strangest feeling and it is quite overwhelming but I'm considering telling a doctor because it is starting to be annoying to me. Only because it happens in the most random times but only when I'm not around other people surprisingly (like in the shower today). I just feel like everything around me is spiraling downwards when it happens, I have come to the conclusion it is some kind of stress based disorder but thankfully it doesn't occur when I'm stressed out. Anyways yes I have the same thing as you which is I perceive everything around me moving at a quicker speed then it actually is.
I am 12 and this has happened to me twice in the past week. This also started when I was younger but it still happens. If I were to describe it I would say that it images noises (like a drawer closing or typing) sound fast. When I think in my head my thoughts are angry and fast. My thoughts themselves are not angry but the voice saying them is. The same thing happens when I speak. I usually notice this happening when I am alone for awhile not talking or listening to any music. When I do listen to music the music also sounds angry and fast. It is as if my mind wants me to be angry. Please send me a message if you know what this is called. Like most people I do not think this is something to worry about. I hope this helped.;-)
Alright so I've been experiencing this too, and have been doing a bit of research. I never have any size distortions, and I feel like that's what AIWS is, so I don't believe that is the cause. I did, however find this wikipedia page that seemed to kinda be more spot on. One of the biggest things is that it involves any distortion of sense. I don't think it'll do a link but here's the site so you can look at it yourselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_partial_seizure
Hey everyone!
Well. We are not alone after all, Im 28 and used to get the Alice in Wonderland Syndrome most nights as a child when i was trying to get to sleep, just had the other strange version of it this evening, was playing a computer game and everything became really kind of intense and serious and kind of like you all describe as being fast moving.... sort of, to me its more like the sensation that everything thats going on is mega important or amplified in some way, not had one of these for over 10 years! Wonder what triggered this one, it seems to be lasting alot longer too..... like still as i type! , i had an Alice In Wonderland one a few months ago...... maybe we are just special because alot of people dont understand it at all when ever ive tried to explain it, personally i kind of enjoy it, it kind of makes you feel very focused or open in some way :)
Wonder when this one will wear of : lol
Brains are very strange things indeed :)
I used to get the fast feeling as a child but the feeling unfortunately stopped when i turned 16/17 ,i never felt panic and used to like the speedy feeling ,i am now 46 ,i was trying to explain to my sister the feeling i used to get and decided to look it up ,it's good to know that i am not on my own with this ,people look at me as though crazy when trying to explain the symptoms i used to get ...
everyone should look up alice in wonderland syndrome.
i came across the same thing.....we just have different perception of reality..it surely should be some kind of syndrome or (mental) disorder such as alice in wonderland syndrome...search for it...i came across a girl on net who had the same..not even doctors were able to say what she was suffering with...i am waiting for your reply...

so excited that other people also get this.
when i was a child i would refer to it as my inner clown because everything would go fast all of a sudden almost like clown music.
i am now 17 and I've noticed i get it most after a big morning workout, however i have gotten it while listening to music on the bus once before.
I do get low blood pressure occasionally, and my mum thinks it has something to do with that.
It doesn't feel like an anxiety attack for me, more like a combination of my body feeling normal and my thought and sounds speeding up.
For me its the same pace every time it happens.
