I have been scanning the internet for answers and came across  your posts...I am struggling with a burning pain that is constant.  All urine test and such come back negative...ovaries fine, pap fine.  I am struggling just to do day to day tasks the pain is so bad.  Azo's extra strength over the counter helped a lot, but the pain is now back.  The doctor has put me on Doxycycl Hyc 100mg which treats certain bacteria...taking 2 pills a day for 10 days then going back in.  Day 2 of this and no relief...I'm stuggling.  Want to do the Azo's again...They really give relief, but I am hoping to get to the bottom of this problem.  I think the Azo's just mask the problem but at least I am mobile and not thinking about the constant pain and discomfort.

INTERCYSTIAL CYSTITIS. Pretty rare but if you see a urologist (and some gynos) they will know what it is. This disease affects the lining of your bladder, and if it's bad enough you will actually develop sores inside the bladder as well. A qualified urologist can confirm the diagnosis by performing a procedure where he sticks a camera up your urethra to view the bladder. This disease was recently discovered, and cause is unknown. Treatment often includes taking Elmiron for 6 months, however the medication only has a 30% success rate. More than likely you will just have to manage your symptoms through diet. Certain foods irriate the bladder and are responsible for the pain you feel. Eliminating them can provide significant relief. Typical "problem foods" include: coffee, artificial sweeteners, fortified foods such as cereals, bananas, soy, cranberries, some preservatives. These foods change the Ph of your urine and irritate your very sensitive bladder. IC is chronic, but for whatever reason symptoms usually start to lessen around your 40's. Good luck everyone.

Something else that no one mentioned was a possible chemical sensitivity reaction.  An article that I read said to quit using Tide laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets.  I currently use both!  I'm going to make the switch to Ivory Snow or Dreft detergent and stop using the Bounce sheets and see if that helps.

Good luck!

I had a uti a month ago. I was given an antibiotic which cleared the infection but now I have burning in my uretha.

It doesn't hurt when I urinate but it burns for a long time after I urinate. I do have little blood in my urine. it is a relief to see that other people get this. Do you have any answers for the burning?

Hello to all.  I am female in her 20's currently suffering from the same persistent problem as many of you and searching for answers.  I was not sexually active until entering into a serious relationship this past year.  For the first few months I had no issues, but by the third month of sexual activity with my boyfriend, I developed an UTI.  I had only had one UTI prior, when I was 17, and no recurrence.  Over the last 5 months, since the first infection this year, I have been afflicted with 4 lab confirmed bacterial UTIs and 3 other un-confirmed UTIs. These UTIs involved pelvic spasms, burning while urinating, intense frequency, and blood in the urine.  In addition, I have had consistent burning during for periods as long as weeks absent the other symptoms.  At times it has subsided and then it has returned. I was initially seen by my gynecologist and then referred to a uro/gyn.  The specialist did not do an internal exam, as my yearly in January was fine (prior to the onset of these symptoms) and papsmear clean but prescribed a low-dose daily antibiotic to stave off infections. Moreover, tests for all STDs have come back negative and my boyfriend and I always use condoms.

Despite this, the burning has persisted and sexual intercourse has become uncomfortable and at times painful.  Most recently, after resuming intercourse with my boyfriend, I felt discomfort during sex and intense burning while urinating for days after (no frequency or pelvic pain accompanying it). I followed my typical routine and went into the Dr's office to provide a culture, which I was informed today, came back negative.  Despite this I still have burning and my at-home UTI tests show a raised level of leukocytes. I am now going in to see my regular gyno on Monday to try and figure out the cause of my problem, but I am truly at my wit's end.  I don't understand why this problem came on so strong and suddenly or why it persists. I would love to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences and was diagnosed or provided with answers.

Thank you and best of luck to all dealing with this.

I decided that if I ever found peace surrouding this issue that I would take the time to tell everyone I could so here goes. For the past 8 months I have been suffering from this same problem: burning during urination and a frequent urge to urinate. After countless UTI checks and PAPs and terrible self diagnosis' I was sent to my OB-GYN. Conviced I had interstital cystitis I was shocked to learn all my problems were actually from my birth control pill throwing my estrogen levels out of whack. Once my estrogen levels were restored I was back to normal. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not self-diagnose it will only cause you so much anxiety and fear.

The above post is really helpful. I had this bsck in February, only burning sensation NOT during urination but before and after. I had my urine checked 3 times, was given 3 different antibiotics, and was sent tp be checked for STDs. The GP there told me that I didnt have a UTI nor an STD, but "something like eczema around the urethra" she banned me from ever using bubble bath and only use Dermol 500, abd then she gave me the Eczema cream EUMOVATE. in a day and half all of it was GONE. I then enjoyed 10 months of stingfree freedom. Now I have it again. I followed her advice and put Eumovate again -which now helps but didnt clear it. I was confused because I dont drink caffeine I dont drink sodas I dont eat loads of carbs as I have embraced the Paleo lifestyle (which bans grains). And then the lady above mentions the pill!!! Of course!!! I got this now and the last time because I took my pill back to back and didnt give myself a period week. I had my suspucions but that does it I am changing contraceptive method..

If your still having pain because I experience this for almost a year. One simple solution I stumbled on when I caught a throat infection.(strep throat) Penicillin shot. I made me feel better and symptom free for 2 weeks. I went back and got a second one last again for 2 weeks no burning then I switch to pills. 3 a day for a month. I'm basically 97% cure but still I drink a lot of water. Hope this helps.

Try putting some organic coconut oil on the area and see if that helps. Make sure it's organic though! It will help soothe the pain naturally. Also the organic coconut oil kills all the bad bacteria down there but still leaves the good bacteria to fight the infection off. Do this at night before bed.

That is very interesting to me. I keep having problems with my urethra burning. Not while emptying, my bladder but any time it starts to burn. I have had tests too, which nothing showed up. I had so many urine samples tested which came back clear. To suddenly get one back with lots of blood, protnene and a mild infection.. Antibiotics used over 3 months but I still burn.

This is by far the best answer so far! I've dealt with this for years and AZO urinary extra strength pain relief had been my best friend, but doesn't always work because it's NOT a UTI. I know it's a hormonal/estrogen imbalance. I'm just glad I came across your reply as a reminder to stop putting so much sugar in my diet, carbonated drinks, caffeine products, etc. I do have quite an overactive bladder, and water or coffee keep me in the bathroom or running to pee as soon as I get to a destination or stopping several times to pee before I get where I'm going. One bottle of water and I can sit for 30 minutes and consistently drain. But, I would rather deal with that then burning, and being uncomfortable for hours every day. Your doctor hit it on the head though.
I suggest anyone in this thread to do the same as you are. Watch the carbs, sugar intake, caffeinated drinks, etc. This is definitely a frustrating situation, and although it may seem antibiotics are helping, I assume your diet may have just better agreed with your body that/those particular days you felt better. Changing a diet is hard, but having the urethra pain/burning stop will not be the only benefit to this lifestyle change! Good luck ladies!

Had same problem. Constant urethral burning for weeks. No UTI or yeast infection. 24 hours using coconut oil, burning pain is completely gone.

How did they test and find that your estrogen was low?

Thank you! I've been looking for this answer. I couldn't understand how I could have UTI symptoms then just have them go away. This makes so much sense for me!

Have you visited a urologist to see if you have interstitial cystitis. I was diagnosed years ago and that's exactly how it started.
