I'm 62, had the cscan and mri, nothing there. But the pain is almost always there. I have to shuffle the way i set, I read about the tree oil and i will try that, my daughter reads up on all that stuff and brought me some. I will get back to ya'll if it works, this is about to drive me crazy and my husband also. Don't even want to think about sex, it hurts. There must be something they can do, they need to do more studies for this c**p. Hang in there girls.
Last night I tired a tea tree oil sitz bath...fill a tub with warm water until it covers your pelvis...add 10 drops of tea tree oil...soak in the bath for about 30 minutes. It helped with taking the edge off the pain.
Also deep breathing has helped the sharpness of the pain. Sitting or laying down with no legs or arms crossed...inhale through you nose for a count of 4...hold breath for a count of 6...exhale through mouth for a count of eight.
I posted ealier about how I had chronic pelvic pain for three years and that I recently had a cystoscopy where my urogyn found urethral polyps. Well, I had my visit and he was not really concerned about the polyps. I assumed that we would surgially remove the polyps and I would be better finally after 3 1/2 years of pain. But Noooooo, I basically have chronic inflammation of the urethra. He said it could have been caused by a surgery or a uti, something caused it a long time ago and now I am just chronically inflammed. I have eliminated carbonated beverages, citrus drinks or fruits, caffeine, spicy foods from my diet and started antibiotic/steroid suppositories that I have to use every other night before bed. These are put into the urethra. It is unbelievably painful. The nurse told me that if this was going to help me that I should notice something in about 2 or 3 weeks. My doctor said that between 50 and 70 percent of women with this get better with these suppositories so I am hoping for the best. I cannot believe how painful it is but if this works it will be worth it. I am really lucky that I do not have to work right now while I am doing this so it helps. I am so sorry for anyone going through the same thing. I know how much pain you are in and I just know all the feelings and thoughts you are having are the same as I have. I hope the best for you all. I will post if this actually helps me. Does anyone know if there are any support groups available for women having chronic pelvic pain? ;-)
Has anyone taken Neurontin (also called Gabapentin or Gabarone)? My dr just prescribed it for me for pain management to take in lieu of the vicodin.
I took neurontin for pain about a year ago. Did not help me but I have a friend who took it for neuropathic pain in her feet after chemo and it did help her. I had bad side effects from it. Dizzy, kinda tunnel vision, ended up trying Lyrica and that did not help either but now that I know my pain was actually urethral inflammation and not neuropathic in nature so maybe that is why it didn't help me. I take vicoprophen (sorry spelling) now and it helps quite well with the inflammation. :-)
My dr changed it to Nortriptyline.
My urethral pain has begun one year ago, straight after i was in very bad stress. At the beginning I was even bleeding after passing urine, but a doctor didn't find stones or cystitis in a hospital so sent me back home. Doctors that I have visited, made numbers of testing on chlamydia, indeed i didn't have anything like that. At home i researched some further information about urethral pain and I think that one of the main causes may be acidity. Acidity causes hyper secretion of hydrochloric acid (solution of hydrogen chloride (HCl) found in gastric acid and we know that when someone is in stress the stomach is suffering on the first place. Few months later of the constant urethral pain I began to have prolonged heartburn after most of foods i ate, because my stomach was weakened. The hydrochloric acid is very corrosive, strong mineral acid and if we have the hyper secretion of it, it should be contained in our urine and harms urethra walls what is the reason of frequent pain. The worse problem is that the stress isn't the only cause of the Acidity.
I just wanted to let the women here know that I have had this urethral pain with no infection also and recently tried drinking almond milk. Within two days my pain went away. I don't know yet if this will be a steady solution, but it's been a week and I am good. I suggest you all try it.
Never heard of almond milk, do i just use almond extract with milk? Thanks for the info. This stuff is hell to live with.
I have used lavender essential oil and found relief too. I am so glad I found this site. I was beginning to feel crazy. I had ngu diagnosis a couple of years ago. Urine culture negative. Then, things just got worse. Nothing has really helped fully. The pain comes and goes, but never really goes away. I have pain around my right hip a bit also and toward my low back area. It is hard to ignore the constant urgency. My theory is that the nerves just won't settle down. Maybe there is a virus that stays in the nerves? Anyway, I have found relief with lavender but will try tea tree too. I am thinking of doing a fully body cleanse, maybe the maple syrup and lemon one. Any experience by anyone with this cleanse and urinary/bladder issues? In my research, these things seem so much more common in women. I am male. I definitely had an infection at some point that I believe was an std. Antibiotics were given before the culture, so nothing actually found. Maybe there is a long term chronic condition from urinary infections regardless of the infecting germs? Viruses can do strange things....my guess is in that direction at this point.
I have had bladder and urethra pain since I was 17 years old. I am now 21 and have lived in pain everyday ever since. I have no clue how it happened or why it started. I always thought that I was pregnant because I constantly peed and the doctors thought i constantly had a UTI but then I had no infection. I have a hard time empyting my bladder, I cannot sleep on my side or my stomach anymore with out having the urgency to go to the bathroom which then barely anything comes out and I always have shooting pains in my urethra area. I go to the bathroom every 10 to 15 min and I get only about 4 hours a sleep a night because of constant urination and shooting pain. I then became pregnant and it became so bad that I had to be catheterized (which did not help), and everytime I was catheterized they (nurses who did the procedure) said that it felt as if thier was an obstruction there but nothing ever showed up on the multiple ultrasounds that I had. I have given up on hope to cure it and it has come to the point where doctors dont exactly believe me and sort of gaff me off. I have tried everything going off birth control for almost two years, drinking more fluids, drinking cranberry juice taking AZO pills and not drinking fluids after 8. NOTHING HAS HELPED! I will try the tree tea oil possibly and it may help a slight bit. I just feel relief that there are people out there that have some similar issues that I do and recommend things that help them live with the everyday pain. I really havnt found anything that works, so I am sorry I can help in that department I am just thankful that now SOMEONE WILL BELIEVE ME!
I know this is a little TMI...but my husband and I were able to have pain free sex a few night ago after a long bout of abstinence. I used the tea tree oil as a topical right before. Now the only think I am worried about is that we use latex condoms...I hope the oil didn't damage it.
First, you get humilated when doctors think you gets UTIs bc of improperly wiping yourself, they counsel you to void after intercourse, and urge you to drink cranberry juice (that I cannot find w/o it being mixed with other juices). I have a history of chronic UTIs (over 27 years), and around Oct. 09, I developed UTI symptoms without any bacteria, but in a few cases, they found blood in my urine. When doctors don't find bacteria in your urine, and all the catscans, mris, and other procedures come out negative, the doctors think you're a nut case like someone said earlier. This further degradation complicates the situation bc they cannot explain the constant pain and pressure you know you are truly experiencing.
In Jan. 2010, I was referred to a urologist who said I had urethral stenosis (narrowing/constricture of the urethra), and I understood he was going to collect some urine for analysis. I was put in one of those contraptions like the ones where they do pap smears. The urogogist proceeded to empty my bladder (through the urethra, and at the same time gave me a urethral dilation). The lanocane they swiped on the urethra only seconds before he stuck the dilator into my urethra did nothing for the pain. This is a barbaric and very painful procedure; I did not realize they were going to stretch my urethra. That would have the last time I would have had the dilation done. However, when I called to get the results of the urine analysis, the urologist told me that the assistant forgot to have the urine analyzed for any cancer (I didn't catch the name of this analysis). In the meantime, the pain and pressure were still present so I decide to medicate myself with Cipro that was prescribed but never took b/c there no bacteria present. Within two days, I was feeling better. Two weeks later, I told the urologist about this, and his reply was that it could have been a placebo effect (in other words -- it was all in my head). I had the painful dilation done again to retrieve urine to get it analyzed. They found no cancer or bacteria, but the urologist wanted me to have another dilation. I have read on the internet that it's possible that my frequent UTIs may have caused scarring in my urethra that caused the narrowing/constricture, and that urethral dilation is a controversial procedure, and may cause even more scarring of the urethra. In my last and third visit, I declined the dilation. I asked about the scarring that the dilation may cause, and the urologist of course said it was not possible. It makes perfect sense to me that the dilations would cause scarring.
Today, I am not 100 myself, but most of the pain and pressure are gone. I still urinate frequently, and void very little, but I just have to hope that my urethra does not close completely. Would like to know if there other options other than the dilations.

Hi everyone - I suffer from UTI's fairly often and found that I have the pain in my urethral area for some days after the infection. I did some research and I think that Marshmallow Root herb is absolutely amazing. It is a demulcent which means it coats all the mucus tracts in your body - in cluding the urinary tract, so that everything flows more smoothly. It took the pain away for me within 2 days and Has also greatly reduced the number of UTIs I get. Please give it a try, good luck. Please give it a try - good luck. [/quote
How much marshmallow root and what brand? And did you take it as a tea or capsules?
Thanks!
