I have been suffering from RUQ pain for four moths. I did some tests but I had been told that it is IBS. I did ultrasound of the liver and it looked ok, but I am still worried about liver and gallbladder. What else can I do to make sure that I did everything that is possible?
Well regarding the URQ pain, I suggest you to do abdominal ultrasound, which can image the liver and gallbladder. You also may consider HIDA scan with CCK stimulation that can evaluate the gallbladder function. As you might know, the liver itself contains no nerve endings, and does not feel pain. Some people with HCV experience a pain on the upper right side (URQ) of their body, beneath the ribs, and it is believed to be "referred pain" from the swelling of the liver capsule due to the disease process.
