Sorry to jump in but, I have a similar question, I'm on 2mgs of bunivail for 2 months now and was wondering if I'd be sick if i jumped back over to the Vicodin for about 2 wks and then stop and not take anything? I know I can handle the Vicodin withdrawal I've done it before I just do not want to be on these subs anymore at all! Please feel free to give any advice and thanks

Agree. I'm 47yo been addict 25yr. Calculation MORE than half my life. W/D from every opiate manufactured. Except H. Methadone for 4yrs, horrible w/d. Suboxone for 4yrs, just as insane as methadone. Other 18yrs.... name it I did it & detox from it. Vicodin w/d was by far the EASIEST.

Oh... don't I know your pains. I'm 47yo with an addiction lasting 25yrs. More than half my life. U see back in 1996 my doc told me about a miracle drug that treats pain WITHOUT getting addicted. He wanted me to get off percs. I trusted him, he is doc & I'm young n dumb. That miracle drug is called oxycontin. Lol, no addiction there doc, huh? In his defense, he relied upon what drug companies told him. Then educating his patients on (safer) drug alternatives. I'm not pointing fingers, my choice to continue another 20 yrs. Anyways, been prescribed subs for 4yrs. Prior to that on methadone for 4yrs. Both are same as far as I'm concerned, the intensity of withdrawals. I'm day 12 off subs. Feel same as day 5. Sick af.

That's not true. It's the other way around. If you attempt to take subutex too soon after taking vicodin you would be kicked into withdrawal. Here's how I know: My mother was on 16mg of Sub a day. I asked her doc what would happen if she needed something like morphine. He said, "No problem. She wouldn't get the complete "benefits" of morphine initially. It would take time but there would be no problem.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. Ive been on Bup. for just over a year. I thought it would help with my pain, after 7 spine surgeries over the years. It does not help much, it does stop the bodies natural pain fighters for sure though, man! So it day 2 with no Bup. Day 2 on Hydros, 2 yesterday and 1 today. I will slowly taper off the Hydrocodone 10/325s and stop. I know I can do it, its walking thru the physical pain thats gonna be the worst....Again I appreciate your help. Even if I get dependent on 4 Hydros a day. I know that I can wean off if I really want. And yes, Im in a 12 step program....You can judge me al you want. I dont care. We do what we gotta do....

I went cold turkey off 8mg. I was still in WD after almost 4 months. I finally had a psychotic breakdown and had to be hospitalized! My body could not handle the stress and anxiety from the WD anymore! I have gone back on the the Suboxone and I plan on staying on it. It was H*ll for me! Ruined my Thanksgiving and Christmas! That stuff is the Devil!

Vicodin does help with sub withdrawals. I’ve been running in circles for months. Sub. To. Vic. No withdrawal at all.

Actually 4 mg is the needed dose to act as a full block, 2mg 50% block. Anything above 4 mg is for pain and cravings, but again suboxone below 4mg is not a full block and doesn’t block more above 4mg, the receptor cannot get more blocked, again above 4mg pain and cravings. Many coming off suboxone feel different at below 4 mg for that reason. In a graph only showing blocking effects it flatlines at 4 mg

Like any opiates used over long long term, you will eventually fall in depression due to lack of testosterone, that’s the easy one. Answer testosterone Replacement therapy (androgel) next gastroparesis, no magic pills for that. Massive weight loss, cramping, extreme pain. Only remedies aren’t that good, diet (expensive) with supplements is the best way to MANAGE IT at best !
Do it properly, reduce by 20% max per week once at 2 then 1.5/week 1.0/week 0.5/week and Jump. Did it in two months after 22 yrs of trying to come off methadone but incapable, could have done it faster but didn’t want to fall in methadone withdrawals.
Good luck !
1st have your testosterone level check before starting, if low, makes you depressed and weak ! That applies to all long term users of opiates, all of them.

I agree. I've gone through withdrawal too many times with Norco (hydrocodone). Almost monthly I'd run 3-4 days short of pills because I'd take extra throughout the month. I'd take my last pill around 8pm and when I'd wake up in the morning, within an hour I'm miserable. My skin hurts, my muscles ache, I can't even let my husband touch me, it hurts so bad. That's only the first day, by the second day, you're a real mess. I sit and just rock myself I'm do miserable. I decided a few years ago to get off them on my own, cold turkey, the withdrawal was still bad after three weeks. At five months I asked the Dr to prescribe them again, I couldn't do this anymore, even my rib cage hurt bad. So I went back on Norco. Finally I decided to try suboxone and was started on 8mg/2mg, splitting two strips to take 4mg/1mg 4 times per day. I'm content for now but will eventually want off of sub too. If Sub withdrawals really are worse then hydro with drawls, I will stay on Sub.
