I know this post is old, but I wanted to share my experience in case someone else was looking for guidance on the issue. My DOC was heroin. Used for 3 years and quit cold turkey. It was hell. Actually, hell is an understatement. It was easily the most painful 7 days of my life! I managed to stay clean for a couple years and then started popping pills unfortunately, mainly Percs. Anyways, I began using subs to come off the pills. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. After 8 months of being enslaved to this little film, I managed to taper down from 4 mg to .25. This was when I planned my jump. I tried skipping days. It was hard. I had an appointment to get a tooth pulled on a skip day. They gave me 16 hydrocodone 5 mg for pain. I decided that I was going to use these to get through my sub withdrawal, and then I would be done! I can honestly say that I suffered ZERO withdrawals! I've now been off suboxone for 3 weeks and the hydros for 1 week. I haven't felt any physical or emotional symptoms of wd. I know this isn't a good route for everyone to take, but it turned out to be a lifesaver for me!!!

....and obviously YOU have never been in withdrawal from SUBOXONE! I am a 100% functioning drug addict. Let's see....where do I start, Ummmm.....brought up in a great home. No need for escaping feelings etc. GREAT damn job....college degree, no need for money, blah, blah f*****g blah!
Come to find out at about the age of 9-10, my Dad is an alcoholic. I am not, Thank God! Anyway, I started popping benzos on the regular at 15, shooting OXY by 19, went to Heroin by 21 and then got into shooting it all. D's being my favorite of course...that being said, I have been through ALMOST (excluding METH, CRACK and COKE) every type of detox possible. Not saying, I have not tried it all, I just am not an upper person due to my severe panic/anxiety disorder. f**k! It's all shitty and hard and unbearable; however, the absolute worse I have ever been through is what I am doing at this VERY MOMENT AS I TYPE THIS. Day 5, NO SUBS! However, I did take one norco bc the aches are soooooooo intense. If you have a RX for benzo (XANAX especially), what I HAD to do was take 3-4 at a time bc what normally helps my anxiety attacks, don't touch 'PAWS' or even the W/D's after your Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms....that being said, until you've lived through it all....and I mean ALL, don't tell people how they feel when you obviously don't know how a junkie of 17 years feels like....just saying!

I've been on 1mg sub for 10 years for pain management. I've wanted to stop taking it but the wd are so bad. My dr told me I could take it for the rest of my life and be safe. BS! I had gallbladder surgery a week ago and stopped taking sub the day before surgery. I woke up from surgery literally feeling I would die. Took 3 days before I could take norco for pain from surgery. Wd started and I've taken minimum amount of norco to keep pain at bay and help with wd. First 3 days were hell. 4 -6th days were ok bc norco helped during the day but got little to no sleep during this time due to restless legs. So far I'm good during the day, praying the restless leg thing stops soon and I can go on about my life. I would recommend doing this for ppl who are on low dose of sub. It helps sooooo much! I have no desire to take the norco, I don't feel like I've taken a pain pill, I just notice the absence of pain. Drs dont know c**p about sub and they're zero help. I think each persons experience is trial and error. I informed the surgeon, OR nurse, and the anesthesiologist that I took sub prior to surgery and not one of them thought it would be a concern. They were giving me dilauted in recovery and it wasn't touching the pain and didn't for three days later. So.. I've learned that I am stronger than I ever knew bc I literally made it through the first 3 -4 days post op with no medication since the sub was blocking the norco. I've read that the wd symptoms can last a month but I've not had severe anxiety yet , just sleepiness and restless legs at night, and I'm kinda sluggish. I do feel like all my senses are coming back. Suboxone may be good for hard core users but it shouldn't be used for pain management.
