I was a frequent shaver until one day 5 years ago I bumped up horribly! I was so terrified, I went to the ER! The doctor gave me an antibiotic cream and told me to NEVER use a razor again. He said I could only use hair remover lotion (such as Nair). Apparently, my vaginal area had become too sensitive. I have used razor a couple times since then, but always in shower or tub using shaving gel & I rub Vaseline or baby lotion after I get out (Or your choice of moisturizer). Its much better! Hope this helps.

Hi I been shaving for a couple years now and I had bad problems as red bumps, itchiness, and redness. As throughout these years of shaving I found different methods and trick to decrease the side effects of shaving:
1. Shave a decent amount of times.
I learned that if I don't keep up with shaving all the side effects come back. For example if you wait for the hair to grow completely back all the way your skin in the area will not get use to being shaved, although, if you shave to much down there it will cause burns and very much pain. So limit yourself of how much you shave and it is different for every person depending on how thick your hair is.
2. Rub with rubbing Alcohol.
I found this to be a very good reliever when I felt the urge to itch down there. It stops the itchiness right away. Also, it cleans out any cuts that you may have so they don't get bacteria in them and get infected. ( You may not see the cuts but they are there) This also takes down the swolleness and red bumps you may have.
3. Rub with a dry stick deodorant.
This may sound weird and crazy but it works! It gets rid of any razor bumps and redness , now with this method I wouldn't recommend it for itchiness because it doesn't seem to help that so much.
Okay I told you my ways to get rid of the side effects now ima tell you my methods of how I shave in the shower.
1. I trim any over grown hairs.
This will make your razor have a nicer, closer, and cleaner cut. The closer the cut is the more hair that comes off.
2. Let my skin soften.
What I mean by that is I put a warm wash cloth on my vagina area to let the hairs loosen up a bit. Also, I don't shave right away when I get in the shower. I wash my hair shave my legs or armpits etc. Giving my pubic hairs a chance to loosen up and soften when hitting the water.
3. Use a shaving gel or shampoo. NO SOAP
This will for one give you a closer shave but leaving your skin hydrated and soft looking. The reason I say no soap because it will dry out your skin to cause irritation and itchiness.
4. Shave down first.
This will get you a closer shave as well. It will not get all the hairs but making them very short. Next, I will softly go against my hair going in upward motions. This is optional for a bald look. All on How much hair you want down there.
5. Pull the skin.
When shaving you wanna pull the skin making it tight. This will give you a closer shave.
6. Shave in long strokes.
When shaving in small repeated strokes will break your skin causing cuts or irritate your skin by going over the skin to many times.
Try your best to not go over the same area to many times to cause irritation.
Good luck I hope I helped.

Well what you could do is share your opinion on the topic and see her response and go from there. I know it sounds weird but it works. I shave and my Mom thought it was very strange. If it makes you feel clean and confidence you go girl!!!

That is probably why you get the bumps and itch then because there is nothing to lubricate the razor or skin and it's causing irritation and razor burn same if you don't use a sharp razor.
